  So… according to the Jun 15 WT, Jesus ransom sacrifice only applies to the “anointed class” a.k.a the GB.

  ive noticed for a while now (especially at the assemblies) the frequent use of the term: jehovahs friends whenever they referr to the second class christian, ahem....great crowd, aka the non-anointed christian with earthly hope.

  even in some wt studies they often throw in phrases like seeking friendship with jehovah, our friend jehovah, etc.

  so, the subtle message is clear, the great crowd are not children of god, they are friends of god.

  Great scriptures Stephen but they even have that covered by saying the greek scriptures were written for the annointed.

  I wonder what will happen to these dates with their new interpretation of the King of the North. Although they may keep that as a minor fulfillment with the major still to come.

  1975 was hugely significant even if they only later believed it represented 6000 since the creation of Adam. I guess they didn't want to draw attention to it. It's easy to leave a more distant past as having mythical or mysterious qualities but 1975 is too recent and a period of time that people can relate to.

  The other thing missing is no dates at all after 1945, a whole 65 years with nothing.

  April 15th WT - WT Society says " Obeying Us is Same as Obeying God "

  this is a non-study article in the witness only version of the april 15th titled " do you discern the evidence of god's guidance ?

  " essentially in this article the alleged " faithful slave " is telling witnesses that to be approved to survive armageddon- they will have to recognize the " faithful & discreet slave's " authority in their lives.. notice these direct quotes from pg.

  4 , " jesus christ is the assigned leader of the congregation.

  ....He HAS DELEGATED some authority to a faithful slave class, ....

  Other than the normal questions this raises it is a strange comment to say that they have only some authority. They behave as if they have all earthly authority but here they seem to acknowledge that they have a limited authority. They do not explain what authority in particular they are given and how it is supported by scripture.

  "Something in the congregation is hindering the flow of Jehovah's holy spirit" - witch hunt JW style?

  has anyone else experienced something like this?.

  in my mother-in-law's congregation a special pioneer was recently moved to the congregation and he gave a talk where he said he and the other elders felt there was a bad spirit in the congregation and there must be something going on that is preventing jehovah's holy spirit from operating properly.

  but he didn't state explicity what the problem might be and now gossip is rife in the congregation about whether there might be a sinner or a traitor in their midst.. for many this is just the excuse they need to gossip and bad mouth others.

  If they feel that HS is lacking within the congregation then they need to look at the bigger picture. The congregations are formed from the organisation and it all starts at the top. Individuals could not possibly be blocking any flow of HS, they can't pass it on from themselves to other individuals. Besides the org chucks the unspiritual out and they are shunned so any bad influence could not affect them.

  These natural disasters show that any one of us may meet our death this way, including JWs. The after effects include food shortages, economical turmoil and civil unrest. We would be lucky to get through to the point where we see God's anger unleashed and the JWs ignore this aspect. To them it is all about keeping your eyes on the prize but there is a lot of paper unwrapping to be done before then as we play pass the parcel, from one disaster to the next.

  as you may have heard if you attended recently, social networking is of the devil and many have been 'lead astray' by website supposedly set up for jw.

  whatever, you heard it before about rock, hard rock, hip hop, rap, gangsta rap, tv, werewolves .... anyway you may have heard of the recent elder school where basically there were the proverbial tongue lashings about not having social networking sites.

  What does this mean exactly? Are they hacking into sites or are they paying the social network owners to gain access?

  assemblies; how times have changed

  my wife mentioned our circuit assembly was this weekend, she looked at me and i let out a chuckle and said "the kids are too sick right?

  " (they weren't) but it was what she wanted to hear, an excuse from me to blow it off.

  it got us thinking about how they were kind of tolerable when we were younger.. meals with ice cream, lots of volunteering to get you out of your seat.. there was more room at past assemblies.

  I am so sorry to hear of your struggles doubtful, it is very sad that you have experienced this in your young life. I do wonder if your physical disability has had something to do with the rejection that you have had. It is very unchristian and I hope that this doesn't continue in your life. Although we can put much hope in being accepted by others you have been looking for this generally in other young ones who do not have the maturity or inclination to overlook differences that they see in others.

  Your mother has been pushing things under the carpet, maybe because she doesn't know how to deal with it. You don't mention any father figure being in your life and if that is so then you have missed much that this possible could have provided you. I find it very wrong that JWs are of the opinion that the young ones cannot and should not approach their elders in the congregation for clarification of their uncertainties. It is not always the case and there are some sincere brothers that would welcome discussions.

  There is a lot of misunderstanding about prayers and our expectations from them. God has already set his timetable and laid out his plans. Praying does give us strength and we do well to pray for not only the Brothers in Japan but all those affected, that they also may come to be strengthened and comforted if they can also put their trust in God (if that is not the case already).

  Your doubts about the JW's teachings are well founded. There has been much encouragement on this forum to read the book "Crisis of conscience" written by Raymond Franz (now deceased ), a former Governing Body member. I finally finished reading the book yesterday. It took me two days and I could hardly stop reading. He puts such an enlightening perspective on the religion and it's beliefs that it opens the mind. I was overwhelmed with what he had to say. He is not encouraging people to leave the religion but he exposes it in such a way that it leaves one with a clear understanding of its workings and a clear conscience if one chooses not to accept those teachings. The most wonderful aspect of his writings is the encouragement of keeping a close relationship with God and Jesus. Personally any doubts that I had that I was not doing the right thing by rejecting the organisation were washed away and a new confidence in maintaining my relationship with God and Jesus has taken place and he explains very specifically how this can be done. I encourage you to read it and even if you stay in the religion because of your mother it will give you a new perspective which will make it easier for you to carry on even in the religion.

  but our situation is very difficult and quite high profile.... i was raised as a jw and my mother was very strict and abusive.

  i got baptized at age 14.. my mother actually called on my (present) husband's mom in service.

  she was on the initial call resulting in his mom coming in the truth and him being raised in it from about age 8 or 9.. despite a very abusive step-father, he followed his mom's lead and came into the truth.
