I was counselled once about smoking. Apparently I was seen driving up the road with a smoke. This was total BS as I never entertained the thought of smoking.
All I could think of was I had a white barrelled pen in my mouth.
I'm sure it was my sister who tried to dob me in.
Anyway, now if they see me, for sure they will see me puffing away.

Whats the dumbest thing you were counselled for?
by Beck_Melbourne ini was once counselled by the elders for watching 'knots landing'....it became widely known in the congregation that me and a few other sisters would rush home from field service to watch our favourite soapie.
if we missed it, we would ring each other up for an update...or...if we weren't near a tv we would ask someone to put the phone handset on the top of their tv so we could hear it...pathetic huh...but that was all the excitement we could scrounge up in our otherwise dull and uneventful lives.
one of the elder's wive's conscience got the better of her...and she confessed to her husband..lol.

From the bottom of the world I've got a splash of Scottish and English from my mother's parents, the rest is Maori.

Poor Grandma
by Dutchy inmy cousin just called me and gave me some distressing news.
it seems that last night my grandma was publicly reproved at the kingdom hall.
my grandma was born is 1900 so she is now well over 100 years old.

Kep
Dutchy,
That is sad that your grandma.
A faithful one of old being mistreated like that. You know, the elders would think that as she is "annointed" she would have more spirit operating on her to help keep the congo clean.
But what it really shows is that it's not what you know, it's WHO you know.
Be there for your Grandma, she's been around a long time, and family is what is important.
Make the most of the time you have with her man.
I do that with mine, despite her twisted JW beliefs, I still love her and see her no matter what. -

Forgotten/Unforgotten Friends
by kheli insince i am recently out of the "truth", i still find that i have a couple of people that i really miss.
i have managed to get past the stage of obsessing about whether or not certain people still think/care about me.. but, every now and then i wonder about my (ex)best friend.
she was like a sister to me.

Kheli,
I had a friend who was as close as a brother to me.
He was my best man when I got married and vice versa.
I couldn't contact him when I was going to be Dfd and was disappointed that I missed letting him know.
He had moved to another town by then.
Anyway, about 5 years later I was visiting my Dub mother and he called in to visit.
I saw him come to the door and Mum answered it, she gave him a big hug and I sat there watching them and it probably showed on my face that I was a bit uncomfortable.
He saw this and motioned to me that it was ok, then he came and gave me a hug.
You know, it was very touching. I really missed him.
The fact that he signalled to me it was alright indicates to me that the strength of our friendship was and remained strong despite my being out.
Maybe after all those years he was glad to see me.
We haven't seen each other since, but I am glad I got to spend a couple of hours with him.
It could be the same with your friend.
One thing though, has she paid off the loan?? If not, do you think that will cause a problem for you?? -

Single at 40 .JW virgins.
by sleepy income on admit it, if you were brought up a witness you were dead scared that you were going to end up like the men you saw prowling the assembles and congregations looking for wives.. there would always be men and women in there 30's and 40 who had never had a boy or girl friend.. i used to know quite a few.. the horror of their lives shocks me.. now i not dissing anyone who has chosen not to marry that is their choice.but these people i know want to meet someone and get married.. but the bad news is that the older they get the harder it is to find a wife .what makes it worse is that the choice is so limited.. many of these grown men are even affraid of women .
why?.
because they are taught that even to look at a woman is to commit imorality let alone talk to one.. i knew a brother who had never had a girl friend , he was about 26 at the time.now a sister asks to go out with him so he accepts.quite soon she wants to hold his hand.. this brother now tells her off, for in the family book it says holding hands is only for people who are going to get married.. he doesn't go out with such a spiritually weak sister again.. what has the socity done to these peoples lives.. many people who were once happy teenagers hoping to meet the wife or husband of their dreams are now approaching 40 or even older and have never even had a girlfriend.theri only hope is the new system and i don't want to breack the news to them but its not coming.

It is sad alright.
I grew up that way, got married at 22 to a worldly who was studying.
I have a brother and a sister in their late 20s who are single and thankfully aren't virgins.
They aren't going to meetings and are actually enjoying life.
But, I feel they are still trapped with that dub mentality.
While they were active they were wanting a mate with spiritual qualities, but now they have flagged it all.
I hope they find themselves a real partner to spend their lives with and have families.
While I was a dub and married I never entertained the thought of a family as the end was near.
I've been out for 7 years now and my life is so much better.
I have a wonderful partner and a beautiful 18 month old daughter and another one on the way.
Another sister I have who is younger than me (although she doesn't look it) has 3 great children that are almost in their teens.
Despite being a dub for a long time, she is now out and has her children with her so they can grow up as normal people without the hangups we had. -

Main now Friends?
by Outaservice ini noticed the 'main' part of the board is now called 'friends'.. didn't the witnesses use to refer to each other as 'the friends'?.
maybe we ought to change it to 'ren.dez.vous brothers and sisters'?.
just a thought!.

Best National Anthem
by Mulan inokay, let's do a poll.. since it looks like many of us are watching the olympics, let's vote on which country has the best national anthem.. i love canada's.
i find myself hoping a canadian will win, so i can sing along to their song.. when the russians win, i get a cold disquieting feeling, since they adopted the old soviet anthem again.
too many memories of the old ussr.. marilyn (aka mulan).

My Father Died
by teenyuck ini just found out my father died today...he had a heart attack in the middle of the night.
he was 63, one month shy of his 64th birthday.
my 1/2 brother, age 19, who has been living with him trying to get off drugs, found him in his bed.

Puffs,
I am sorry to hear of your loss, and that because of the borg your relationship with him was not the best.
I was the same with my Dad until I got Dfd.
He was the only one there for me.
I was blessed to have almost 7 years of him in my life.
I lost him last month.
Think of all the good times and talks you had. Keep him in your heart.
Thinking of you.
