The latest change in Watchtower vocabulary to catch out the unwary
by slimboyfat ini got a copy of the recent kingdom ministry the other day and it reminded me of something in the book the orwellian world of jehovha's witnesses by heather and garry botting.
it's on the front page of the december issue of the km, they have a heading called "not 'alternative' witnessing" where they explain that the term is no longer considered appropriate and "public" witnessing should be used instead.. in the orwellian world of jehovah's witnesses the bottings discuss the importance of the particular language jws use to set themselves apart from other people.
they redefine common words to give them a particular slant, such as "brother", "sister", "literature" and so on.

what should I say: Niece going into rehab 3rd time
by WhereWasI inso my 35 year old niece is going into rehab for the third time now.
this time it's a long stint, two and a half months.
she got gov't help since she is techinically homeless.

WhereWasI: I need to know how I can be most helpful to her. That is really what I want to do.
Your input will be largely irrelevant. However, it might be helpful not to say anything harsh or hurtful so the mood is not negatively swayed. She's going to have enough battles to fight without you adding to them.
It took me 10 years of trying, in and out of AA and rehab. !0 years of trying and failing before I got 1 year sober. In the process I screwed everybody who ever tried to help me... that is, until the last one. But I didn't screw that person because of anything she said or did, rather, I just finally figured it out for myself.
Such is the nature of the beast. If you are going to be in the business of being there for your neice you have to be prepared to get run over again and again and again. Rest assured SHE FEELS TERRIBLY GUILTY EVERY TIME IT HAPPENS. If she's still willing to try, there's still hope.
I will be celebrating 10 years of uninterrupted sobriety next year. I left a trail of dead friendships in my wake. There's nothing I can do about it except move forward. Yours is a difficult job with no guarantee of success. But there's always a chance.

A few years ago a coworker asked me what I was going to do for Christmas. I told him I would be going out in the door-to-door ministry. He said, "For crying out loud, give it a rest. It's Christmas!"
Drawing from data on my internal hard drive, I recited, "What better way to honor Jesus than to spend it doing the work he commissioned."
He nodded and said, "Yeah... I guess."
I always felt uncomfortable knocking on peoples doors on their holidays. I always thought that was rude. I didn't have the capacity to act on my gut feelings and I cringe to recall some of the looks and responces I recieved when they opened their doors.
Ahh... it's good to be persecuted.

Don't let your accountant fire YOU when you catch them in malfeasance
by Terry inyou own a business and hire an accountant to manage the finances.. your checks start to bounce every once and awhile.
you anxiously call your accountant: "what's going on?
bank to cover these things!".

Should a group of Still Ins travel to Brooklyn with whips, burst into the big boy offices, turn over the tables, escort them to the curb, demand new management, etc...?
Is it not a member owned organization? Brotherhood of equals?
Occupy Bethel?

Is the Watchtower so assured of its members' loyalty it can do and say as it pleases?
by truthseeker ini don't know how any of you feel about this, but is it possible the watchtower society is so self-assured of its members' loyalty that it no longer cares what it says or does anymore?.
one example would be the constant admonition to practically worship the faithful and discreet slave.. another is changing the end of the calling of the anointed from 1935 to no fixed date, allowing the number of anointed to be at its highest for over 40 years.. what about the overlapping generations?
most non-jws, if pointed out the inconsistencies, would see the folly of this latest understanding, yet the rank and file swallow it, hook, line and sinker.. such changes are almost blatant, in your face, yet where is the anger, the rage, at yet another move of the goal posts?.
