The trouble with Christianity. TRINITY.
by whereami ingotta love pat.. "ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions.
ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them; and no man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity.
it is the mere abracadabra of the mountebanks calling themselves the priests of jesus.

The WT misrepresents the doctrine of Trinity by inaccurately defining it as "Three Gods in one". There are several misquotes from different sources mentioned in the Trinity brochure, which are brought out at www.jwfacts.com. For example:
Trinity Brochure:
"Jesuit Fortman states: "The New Testament writers . . . give us no formal or formulated doctrine of the Trinity, no explicit teaching that in one God there are three co-equal divine persons. . . . Nowhere do we find any trinitarian doctrine of three distinct subjects of divine life and activity in the same Godhead."" (ti p.6) The Triune God, Edward Fortman
The actual quote:
"They give us no formal or formulated doctrine of the Trinity, no explicit teaching that in one God there are three co-equal divine persons. But they do give us an elemental trinitarianism, the data from which such a formal doctrine of the Triune God may be formulated."
Trinity Brochure:
"The Catholic Encyclopedia also comments: "In Scripture there is as yet no single term by which the Three Divine Persons are denoted together. The word [tri“as] (of which the Latin trinitas is a translation) is first found in Theophilus of Antioch about A. D. 180. . . . Shortly afterwards it appears in its Latin form of trinitas in Tertullian."" (ti p.5) The Catholic Encyclopedia(newadvent.org /cathen/ 15047a.htm 21/12/2006)
The actual quote:
"The word [tri'as] (of which the Latin trinitas is a translation) is first found in Theophilus of Antioch about A. D. 180. He speaks of "the Trinity of God [the Father], His Word and His Wisdom" ("Ad. Autol.", 11, 15, P. G., VI, 1078). The term may, of course, have been in use before his time. Shortly afterwards it appears in its Latin form of trinitas in Tertullian."
Trinity Brochure:
"And the New Catholic Encyclopedia also says: "And the doctrine of the Holy Trinity is not taught in the O[ld] T[estament]."" (tip.6) New Catholic Encyclopedia - p.306
The actual quote:
"The doctrine of the Holy Trinity is not taught in the OT. ? In many places of the OT however, expressions are used in which some of the Fathers of the Church saw references or foreshadowings of the Trinity."
etc, etc.

these thoughts were inspired by a comment made on my very first post, in which i mentioned that while my husband and i have had our eyes opened regarding this religion were not ready to give up the friends and family just yet.

I think most people here can relate to what you are experiencing now. Some still keep up appearences for the sake of family and/or friends.
You have already mentioned a number of things which can make you feel better: missing an occasional meeting or two, doing the basic minimum in service, avoiding questionable doctrine (at least you aren't getting others involved), commenting by reading scriptures only, etc.
I've done all those things when I first started in my journey outside the org., and they are indeed helpful.
However, after some time you get tired of putting on a show anytime you step inside the KH. The atmosphere there can be suffocating for someone who knows what the WT is all about, and you desperately feel like being true to yourself and what you know is right. Basically the inner voice of your conscience that cannot be ignored.
That stage is stressful and whether you like it or not (I know how hard it is!), you've got to make a decision. If you can help it, don't rush to present all possible evidence about the org to family members. Many posters here (myself included) have experienced that to be a very counterproductive approach.
I wish you success in your efforts.

Welcome What Now!
I'm happy you were courageous enough to research facts and finally confirm your doubts. It's great your husband is also on the same page!
Good for you for looking out for your child, for him to enjoy a normal, loving childhood.
I really hope you might succeed in raising awareness about the many faulty JWs teachings with your family.
I wish you all the best!

Did I handle this okay?
by headisspinning ini finished 'crisis of conscience'... i am just reeling.
if any one book has changed my life, then this one is definitely it.
it's incredible really - two weeks ago i was so confused and disturbed and felt like my whole life had been turned on it's end but that book made such a difference for me.

Good letter!
I know it can be really stressful, especially when you're coming from a close relationship with your parents and suddenly drop into a random email. All because of what an organization prescribes as a law and the supposed way to make God happy.
I really hope things get better with your mom.

We Give/Gave Up So Much Over This Thing
by OnTheWayOut ini think of a reporter that breaks a huge story about some corruption in the government who won't reveal his source of information.
the government uses anti-terrorist laws against that reporter to try to force him to speak.
the laws are designed to protect the people and are used in a warped way to protect the government and allow it to hide it's corruption.

Why does anyone have to be judgmental? Non-theists might not appreciate others talking about their faith in God, Christians or other believers might not appreciate the God-bashing statements from non-theists.
One of the reasons people come to this forum is because they feel free to express themselves without censure in various ways they never could while being a JW (or exposed to their agenda).
Can't we all respect each other's freedom of expression?

@ Justitia Themis.
Thanks for the clarification. I'm not even from that part of Europe. And where I come from we didn't take any studies on religion, our country was atheistic.
