ROTFLMFAO!!!
BTW, did you find him?
in my jw daze, they were always warning that satan transformed himself into an angel of light, and he knows what to tempt you with, blah blah.
an elder that studied with my ex told him that satan can't read our minds, so if we don't act on certain impulses, he won't know what to tempt us with.
in other words, he explained, if you see a porn mag and pick it up, then satan will work with that.
ROTFLMFAO!!!

i would assume that some or a good number of us here as normal humans in this society - consider " lawless " actions to include murder , robbery, extortion, rape, child abuse, war , terrorism, etc.
the wt society has their own definition of what's considered " lawless ".
anything that's considered a disfellowshipping offense in the jehovah's witnesses is now considered " lawless ".
sab - "Jesus Christ = Bob Marley of the 1st century with a more sensational backstory."
- and less ganja.
flipper - "Good point. I really think the WT society IS NOT concerned anymore with DFed ones returning to the Witness organization."
Well, when you're consolidating to cut costs in response to projected revenue flow reaching a plateau and eventually decreasing, you're facing increasing legal action for decades of faulty policies that place minds, hearts, and lives at risk, you're increasingly avoiding public scrutiny in both print and physicality, and you're weeding the organization down to just the dominant alphas and subservient omegas, you're not gonna want to bring back disgruntled ex-staff members.
you may have heard of "the great equalization" that is supposed to happen, so no one has "too much" or "too little".
but what exactly does this mean to the witlesses?.
what this very well could end up meaning is that, when coming crises hit, they are going to start hounding the witlesses that prepared well for them to share with those who didn't.
heaven - "OR... you could all get together and grow a community garden where everyone gets fed."
I'm with you on that one, dude; if the world goes to hell in a handbasket, I'd rather be a good neighbor than a paranoid hermit.
I'd still purchase and become proficient with a legal and licensed firearm, though.
In response to the thread topic (and I've touched on this before):
If/when climate change, the effects of Peak Oil, unsustainable population growth, resource depletion, disease pandemics, global economic meltdown, or authoritarian neo-feudalism take place (or any combination thereof), at the very least, the WTS will limp along, barely a shadow of its former self. Far likelier IMO; the WTS will simply fade away into obscurity.
The reasons why are:
A) while still globally significant (and arguably "apocalyptic"), these events are, at their core, mundane "real-world" phenomenon, whereas the vast majority of apocalyptic millennialist groups subscribe to End-Times interpretations that manifest themselves in an overtly supernatural manner...
B) an authoritarian theocratic worldview can't significantly accomodate the concept of humanity causing its own near-extinction...
C) the WTS's Fred Franz-scripted End-Times narrative, which at this point has bad guys who are largely powerless (the UN Security Council) or still have no equivalent recast yet (the King of the North), barely touches on these conditions except in a broadly generalized way, and has done virtually nothing to prepare its membership for them (physically or spiritually)...
after i had children, i changed gradually in the way i thought about the religion i was raised in.
one day, it dawned on me that if my child was injured in an accident and needed blood to survive, there was no way in the world i would say "no" to a blood transfusion.
why continue the charade?
I find it interesting that there seem to be more XJWs here that were helped on their way out by becoming parents, rather than the other way 'round.

Made me a "worse" JW 'cause it contributed significantly to my fade...
Made me a better man and human being, though.
I hope.
i've seen several posts relating to the mood among longtime jws here recently.
i thought i would add to that collection and recount a discussion i recently had with my dad and a small group of folks about his age.
quick background on the group:.
Franklin Massey - "Amazing."
Thank you.
in looking for a particular reference to carl sagan's the demon-haunted world: science as a candle in the dark, i stumbled across this website:.
http://www.crossroad.to/q&a/science/sagan.htm.
it appears the page was created as a rebuttal against carl's book.
Carl Sagan via villabolo - "A scientifically imbued, naturalistic religion, with pantheistic undertones, is what humanity needs. That, however will require a radically different society/civilization than the one we have."
Nice. Sagan was a powerhouse; the world is poorer for his absence.
Do you know if he ever suggested any belief systems that might be decent candidates, or make any suggestions about what that kind of society might look like?

brotherdan - "My mother in law just wrote me 'The 2/15 WT was so lacking in love it was absolutely absurd. As a df'd person, I can guarantee that it is not something that helps a person towards repentance. It verges on cruelty.'"
Further evidence (to me) that at this point, they're not interested in bringing lost sheep back to the flock (unless they're so dysfunctional in the outside world that they really have nowhere else to go).
This just tells XJWs "don't bother coming back", the CC "if you wanna see your wayward family, get lost", and the subservient omegas still in that "they better stay put if they know what's good for 'em".
They're weeding the garden, and building a hothouse around what's left.
for decades fred franz was the guru of the watchtower bible & tract society.
he was obsessed with "biblical prophecy" trying to explain the book of daniel and revelation.
who took over after he stopped writing and who is considered the authority on the jws teaching today especially the so called "prophetic interpretation?
dgp - "From the outside, I am not surprised that no one is now in charge of the "watchtower-ology". That is the usual result of demanding that people do not think."
Ditto.
That kind of thing requires itellectuals, creative-types, and out-of-the-box-thinkers; all of which have long since been shown (or ran for) the door.
Sorry, botched first post.
Anyways, just got a tip that certain members of the WTS heirarchy are allegedly looking into housing design and construction, as opposed to printing and/or distribution facilities. While I could be wrong, this seems new to me.
Anybody wanna hazard a guess as to where (if it's accurate) they'd start building JW-exclusive housing?
While obviously not bunker complexes, isolated gated communities would dovetail nicely with the theory that they're thinning the herd and battening down the hatches at the new HQ in upstate NY.
