Discussion involving my Dad & other long timers - Mood is definately different
by Doubting Bro ini've seen several posts relating to the mood among longtime jws here recently.
i thought i would add to that collection and recount a discussion i recently had with my dad and a small group of folks about his age.
quick background on the group:.

whereami - "Yeah it's going to have to adapt to survive, and it will."
It was well-adapted to the socio-cultural environment of the 20th Century, especially the 50s.
Not so much, though, now.
I'm having a hard time imagining how a semi-secretive, authoritarian, apocalyptic millennialist high-control group can adapt - that is, change - to survive and accomodate the realities of the information-saturated, technologically forward, WikiLeaks-level-transparency-craving socio-cultural environment of the 21st Century, though.
The only thing that might effectively accomplish that is "mainstreaming", which is virtually impossible at this point practically by design; it would be viewed by any active, believing R&Fers with half a brain as associating with Babylon the Great.
In the highly unlikely event that they instituted progressive reform this late in the game, they would arguably no longer be Jehovah's Witnesses.

What crisis will set the W.T on a new path?
by acolytes inor what are the forces of inertia that keep jehovers witnesses from changing?.
acolytes.

punkofnice - "I wouldn't put it past them with their 'rule or ruin' policy that if the washtowel is going down they wouldn't enforce mass suicide."
We're already sort of seeing it; they're tightening up on all sorts of policies across the board, which can't help but weed out the rest of the fence-sitters, apostate-sympathizers, and other assorted riffraff; pruning the plant for ideological purity.
Prune too much, though, and you kill the plant; a slow suicide of the WTS itself, if not necessarily the R&F.

The Great Equalization
by WTWizard inyou may have heard of "the great equalization" that is supposed to happen, so no one has "too much" or "too little".
but what exactly does this mean to the witlesses?.
what this very well could end up meaning is that, when coming crises hit, they are going to start hounding the witlesses that prepared well for them to share with those who didn't.

Feb. 15th WT - WT Society says DFed Ones are Lawless- Just Like Demons
by flipper ini would assume that some or a good number of us here as normal humans in this society - consider " lawless " actions to include murder , robbery, extortion, rape, child abuse, war , terrorism, etc.
the wt society has their own definition of what's considered " lawless ".
anything that's considered a disfellowshipping offense in the jehovah's witnesses is now considered " lawless ".

This is virtually guaranteed to alienate even further the vast majority of XJWs, faders, and most importantly, the Concious Class, which can only result in weeding the garden, as far as GB2.0 is concerned.

Disfellowshiped ARE REQUIRED to sit in the library!
by brotherdan inmy mother-in-law is making leaps and bounds in her progress to get out of the watchtower.
for those of you that don't know, she is df'd but has been working on "coming back".
recently i've been able to exchange emails about the dangers of the organization and share jesus with her.

Thinning the pack 'til just the dominant alphas and subservient omegas remain.
This'll just help winnow out the in-betweeners even more.

NewChapter - "I don't EVER want to appear a year older than I am!"
45ish, huh? Do you look it?
I'm a bit younger, but not much (born in).
Oh, and I'm a screwdriver fan (heavy on the screw, er, drive, er, vodka).

NewChapter - "...it was also degrading to men. It lowered them to nearly animal status. Really? Men? Are you that out of control? Are you that mindless? Are you all just a bunch of grenades waiting to go off? LOL The men should have taken offense too. But that is the JW way. They have so little faith in humankind, because the heart is so very treacherous, no one can be trusted."
Of course.
The idea that human beings are inherently and irrevocably bad (and thusly need to be kept on a short leash for their own damn good) is a fundamental assumption of conservative ideology, religious or secular.

New Information On Blood?

NewChapter - "I understood that conscience matter meant between the person and their god, and the congregation did not get involved. Can someone explain how they reason that a conscience matter is no longer between the god and the person?"
It's called a "double standard", and it doesn't really require an explanation; in fact, an explanation would arguably expose it further as a double standard.

after 40 years I guess I am being shunned
by Giordano inwell thanks to this site i have come to realize i am being shunned........i think.
i find this really funny because my wife and i were never df or da, and we walked out in the late 1960's.
and no one in the family ever shunned us.. without making too much out of it my niece has not invited us to visit and meet our new nephew.

newchapter - "Anyway, I was wondering if something had changed very recently."
I theorized in my intro post that GB2.0 might have instituted a new unofficial policy (i.e. unwritten, but just as binding) on inactives and faders; like maybe if they haven't been to a meeting in a year, they're to be regarded as having DAed themselves, or somesuch, unless they make an effort to resume even intermittent contact. no official announcement would be neccessary, maybe just private admonishment to immediate/live-in family of the faders' change in status.
They react to percieved threats; if faders are becoming more and more prevelent, than they could theoretically feel threatened by the fact that fading - like DAing - has become common, rather than rare.
While authoritarian bosses would prefer to have an employee stay rather than leave, if they think an employee will leave, they'd rather fire him than have him quit.
