  the entire internal religious culture of the watchtower organization is harmful for its current members.

  the culture seems to traverse ethnic and national barriers.

  however, the worst of each culture all around the world appears to have a symbiotic relationship with the religion in an attempt to make the org fanciful in every nation and locality.

  It was the fear of not really being “God’s Exclusive Earthly Organization”.

  There isn’t much they won’t do to keep up that premise.

  The changes are all stopgap measures to stay in the black and continue to exist until God bails them out with Armageddon (any day now).

  i was thinking that since russell started the movement in 1879 which became jehovah's witnesses in 1931 never has there been a period in time when all their activities just - stopped.

  especially the preaching work.. do you think they will find some obscure verse in daniel that talks about this period of time and try to make a greater fulfillment?

  like the 70 weeks of years or the 42 months?

  Trump is - first and foremost - a businessman…

  …so I would recommend approaching something like this from more of a financial angle.

  Maybe a laundry list of ways that the Org is essentially abusing its “charity status”.

  Not that I think it would really work…

  …as nowwhat says, the JWs are small potatoes in the grand scheme of things.

  there are no real numbers for jws but they are a relatively small group.

  compared to the number of catholics at least.. the australian commission gathered more than 5000 cases with over 1000 perpetrators that went completely unreported for the jws.

  likewise they did the same for catholics and collected just under 4800 cases with 1880 perpetrators.

  the proposed change will revoke charitable status of canadian churches who have an anti-abortion position, and will not give tax exemptions to organizations whose sole claim is to promote religion, which is the basic claim for all jw related entities in canada.

  this will be interesting!.

  Ten bucks says the ones who are aware of it probably have enough brains to realize that trying to spin “paying back Caesar’s things to Caesar” as “persecution” would just make ‘em look like a bunch of numbskulls.

  i've just remembered that i attended a hall where one of the brothers consistently quoted daily mail articles to back up his answers during the meetings.

  i found it hard to keep a straight face when the inevitable daily mail article was quoted to 'prove' a bible passage at each meeting.. no one really seemed to mind and i remember one time i spoke to an elder and said this has to stop as he is passing off tabloid tattle as hard fact.. elder wasn't interested.

  i guess as long as the answers backed up the party line no one cared..

  The “follow instructions even if they don’t make sense” thing arguably primes the rank-and-file for pretty much anything, no matter what…

  …including doubling-down or mainstream reform.

  Hypothetical scenario…
  

  …the WTS loses its tax-exemption over child abuse scandals and human rights abuses in too many countries to stay afloat and they’re not able to get their little real estate empire up and running in time…

  …so the GB tells the rank-and-file that “it’s time” to hunker down in their bunkers basements and await further instructions…

  …while they and a select few bugger off to the Caymans where they have nest eggs stashed, and let the rank-and-file think they’ve been raptured taken away to heaven to kick off the Great Tribulation.
