Toxic Relationships
by serenitynow! ini have had it with my mother.
i've spoken on the board before about her.
she is fanatically religious, often keeps me on the phone for hours while she talks endlessly about the bible.

Hi Serenity Now,
Thanks for sharing your story. Glad to hear you are on a growth path. You may notice that as you grow, your relationship with your mother will change. If your mother fears growth (sounds like she does), then you will naturally experience resistance. But, if you are determined to keep growing, nothing will be able to stop you.
I am sorry to hear that your mother has so few feelings (like never being able to cry). That's harsh. But then she believes in a harsh punishing god, too ... so why would it surprise me?
None of us have to end up like our mothers...Keep up the great work! I'm cheering for you!
As always, great comments, Lady Lee! I value your wisdom...

A Lurker taking a step out of the shadows
by AlmightyDog ini have been lurking on this site and others for a couple of years now, and i feel it is time to step out and say "hello!
" when i first began investigating my beliefs, it was innocent enough.
i had been reading an article on scientology, thinking; "wow, these people are just plain nuts!!!

Welcome to the forum, Almighty Dog!
I liked Terry's post.
When Faith is more of a Loyalty issue than a Reality-match you have entered the valley of the shadow of cults.
Good point, Terry! Unfortunately, many people never make it out of the Valley of the Shadow of Cults
The reason is the FEAR that the JW religion instills in its members. Fear is a paralyzer. It keeps people immobilized.

MY DAD IS SHUNNING ME!
by Hairyhegoat inwell this was no surprise to me that my dad was doing this.
m df brother went round last night to borrow some tools and my dad just had to mention that he was dissapointed with the family and how we don't go to the meetings anymore.
he told my brother that he could not have a proper farther son relationship as he does not share the same faith and hope for the future as him, and if an emergencey situation was to present it'self then he would be their for him.

HHG,
I understand what shunning feels like. My two grown kids shun me because I'm df'd. They can't wrap their head around it that I don't want to be a JW anymore.
It still hurts, though. The JW religion tears families apart.
Can you feel the love?

What is your definition of a "Fundi" or a Fundamentalist?
by brotherdan ini've been called a "fundi" many times in my discussions with people on the board, and i'd like to know what your definition is of a "fundi".
don't google it.
i just want to hear your personal definition.. i find it interesting because i don't go to any church.

Christians believe in some extreme stuff, like the murder of Jesus Christ. Sounds like God by whatever name is a horrible father. Christians might be said to have a punishing belief system. And each time the bread and wine are passed, it could be likened to re-killing Jesus.
Gnostic Christians, on the other hand, believe that Jesus survived the crucifixion and raised a family with Mary Magdeline --- far away from the would-be murderers.
