My take on this is that the WTS needs to turn the equity value of their buildings into liquidity they can invest to generate cash flow. Although the value of their real estate may continue to raise, they don't generate any income. By selling the old buildings and relocating to a new location built by slave labour the WTS will dispose of hundreds of millionsmwhennit is all said and done.

some friends familiar with wt gossip have told me that the decision to move out of ny was in part accelerated by the tragic events of 9/11.. my take on this is that decision to relocate was made a long time before, however they counter that a move was planned but not the total detachment that is occurring.. i wonder if anyone here has an opinion or information on this.. thanks.

Elders and spying eyes
by Crazyguy inis it normal for the elders in your congregation to spy on you through your wife?
texting her to see whats up with you and what your doing or saying etc.
using her as the in house spy???

I am inactive but my wife is still in. I am sure the elders questioned her on the reasons why I suddenly stopped going. But knowing her she would have told them to ask me directly, something none of the elders had the guts to do. If my wife would have talked to them, I'm convinced they would haved used anything she said to corner me regardless of the effects this would have had on our marriage or family. Elders will use any means to out anyone who won't play according to their rules, regardless of the cost for others.

The most disturbing Watchtower quote in 2013.
by never a jw ini am trying to put together the worst of 2013. the first quote that comes to mind is possibly your "favorite" too.
do you have any other disturbing quotes from the publications in the wt?.
elders who are reading this article can draw some useful conclusions from the account we have just considered: (1) the most practical step that we can take to prepare for the coming attack of the assyrian is that of strengthening our faith in god and helping our brothers to do the same.

Has the WT ever said slavery is wrong? Last Sundays WT seems to say no.
by BU2B inin last sundays wt there was a paragraph talking about how the 1st century christian congregation was united despite differences.
rich and poor, jew and gentile, and get this.. slave and slave owner!
the wt has admitted that not only slaves were a part of the congregation, but that slave owners were as well, with no sanction on their behavior.

The WTS would put the evilness of slavery on imperfect masters...Jehovah is the perfect master and slaving for him would be a blessing...so it would be slaving for his organization.

The END did NOT come in their lifetime!!
by DATA-DOG ini don't know about the rest of you, but i have seen my fair share of death.

Clarity
The 2010 DC was when I stopped at once to attend the meetings and except for comments made by my still active wife I have no contact with any JWs...so I have no idea how the new light affected the morale of the troops. All I know is that what woke me up.
Jgnat
I was in my mid fifties when I woke up to the fact that I will grow old and die. With time I came to realize that I'm more at peace knowing I will die than the uncertainty of ever qualifying for an elusive everlasting life...

Great post. The last meeting I attended was the DC in 2010 where I watched the bobbing gray heads at the ice level senior section as old timers listened to the talk on the new definition of the generation. Amongst them was a couple who served our circuit when I was just married and now they were old and childless. I couldn't help but feel sad for them as they were being told in covered words that there's a good chance they will die before the end of this system. At that moment I realized that in 10 years most of the ones sitting in that section would be gone and that my wife and I would be sitting in their place, listening to the same bull crap or even worse, to new light that makes no sense what so ever. I decided right then that I would never sit in that section and that I no longer had a minute of my life to waste in this cult. Today I make the best of every day to do what makes me happy.

As they get older children grow out from believing in Santa...as they grow older JWs believe each day that passes brings them one day closer to Armaggedon...it took me 50 years to realize it isn't coming!

Cost of new Kingdom Halls?
by Blttex ini have been told that the cost to build a new kingdom hall is $500k +.
i have a background in commercial construction and this seems pretty high to me, considering all the free labor.
that is just the cost of the building, excluding the lot price.

Snare and Racket
I am not surprised...when my COBOE brother told me the RBC allowed them to benefit from negotiated pricing I had a hard time not to ask "negotiated for who's benefit". The only say the local congregation has is to chose one of two colouroptions and to pay the loan to the KH fund.

My brother's congregation is doing a remodeling including a small addition and he tells me the RBC takes care of everything. The local congregation just pay the bill. Purchasing and accounting is done by the RBC...that's quite different from back when I was involved in building our hall. Everything was purchased locally by the local elders and we knew exactly how much everything cost...where we saved money over the estimated cost enabled us to upgrade the seating and pave the parking lot...with this new process I wouldn't be surprised if any savings or a defined % of the cost is sent to the WTS...
