  More scare tactics from the left. As has been stated in this thread, the Amred Forces are not interested in having bodies, the Armed forces are so much more high tech than in the past.

  As far as the Iraq/Vietnam comparisons, well there really isn't any...yet. Let's start the Vietnam after the June 30th pull-out date. My opinion is that there will NOT be a pull-out of occupying troops on that date. I hope I'm wrong. However, I have a feeling...

  P.S. I'm a Bush supporter, war supporter, and Republican.

  P.P.S. Anything that comes from the mouth of Ralph Nader must be taken with a large dose of anti-leftist medicine.

  Can someone be "saved" just by reading the Bible?

  awhile back, i read one of those pages with questions to ask jws.

  one question was something to the effect of: "can someone be saved by just reading the bible?

  " -- and the page said the bible says that this is true, but (obviously) witnesses teach the obvious.

  This is the same arguement I have had with my PO dad. I will briefly write what I told him.

  The issue is not the "what" that you belong to saving you (By salvation I mean eternal separation from God at death due to sin), but the "who." If you look at the basis of the OT sacrificial system, it was based on a substitue taking the punishment for your sin (the OT lamb). This all prefigured the "Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world." The death of Jesus was in the stead of the believers. Jesus paid the penalty (death) even though He was sinless. This death transfered the believer's punishment onto Jesus. I have never seen an instance in which an organization was ever utilized in Judeo-Christian scripture to pay the penalty for sin.

  However, that doesn't end it. At Jesus' resurrection (God's acceptance of Jesus' sacrifice; if Jesus was sinless then he could not remain dead and his flesh allowed to corrupt) all the good things that Jesus did are now transfered to us. Therefore, we (believers) can enter the throneroom of garce with boldness because believers are guiltless (atonement) and righteous (resurrection). No organization can save you from eternal separation from God.

  To The Opposers of George W. Bush and The War In Iraq

  as i read grenpalmtrees post to those of us that support president bush and the current iraqi war, i was reminded that i needed to do something concrete to show me support for this situation.

  so i contacted camp pendleton (a marine base which has lost a number of troops in iraq), and spoke with an officer, and asked what i could do to support the families of those that have paid the ultimate price in this war.

  he gave me a list of accounts, and i have since donated money to those accounts.

  Here is my question to those that say they "oppose the war, but support the troops." What have you done to "support the troops?" To those that support the war: have you done something similar?

  It is not my intention to start a flame war, or to say my side is better than your side. It is simply to find out. So please, I really don't want a my side is better than your side war. Enough rhetoric has been bandied about, and I for one am sick of it.

  So if you have read this, and you have not done something to "support the troops" or their families left back home, and no this is not only for Americans but for those in other countries that have sent troops to Iraq. Please do something. Whether or not you support this war, there is one thing that is aboundantly true. Hundreds of thousands of fellow human beings in the military are placing their lives in harm's way. Civilians that are trying to help re-establish Iraq are being kidnapped and threatened with their lives. I believe it's time to tone down the rhetoric and do something tangible for the troops . Then work for whatever political solution you think, not feel, is best for the country.

  i can't figure out if wal-mart is a force for good or evil.

  but this article was interesting, and even-handed.

  it's long, you may not want to read all of it, but worth the effort to get through imo.

  My biggest beefs with Wal-mart are the reports that managers instruct new hires how to get on public assistance, how they intimidate persons that try to organize the workers into a labor union (both being based on anecdotal evidence), and their claim to protect American jobs, yet "Made in China" is so prevalent on so much of their merchandise that sometimes I want to speak in Mandarin just from driving by one of their stores. The Los Angeles Times ran a three-part story on Wal-mart at the outset of the So. California grocery workers strike that was very interesting. I do't have the link, but I recommend you take a look at it. The Times won a Pulitzer prize for that series.

  I was pleased that the citizens of Inglewood voted to not allow Wal-Mart to ruin that community (then again ruining Inglewood would be an upgrade). That area does need jobs, however the Wal-mart super store was merely a quick fix, and a way for a city to fatten it's coffers in an economically strapped city.

  Personally, I no longer shop at Wal-mart. Though I have, in cases of extreme personal discomfort made use of their toilet facilities. Guess they are good for something.

  If I am not mistaken Mormons are considered Modelist. I'll check, and get back to you. JWs are denifitely Arian. In one of the old books they listed Arius on par with Russell.

  5. Gave letters to my neighbors telling them exactly what the JWs believe and practice.

  6. Read many types of books.

  7. Registered to vote.

  Summer convention "warnings"

  anyone remember those kingdom ministry parts we had to attend a month before the summer convention about not saving seats and not eating during the program.

  even our behaivor in the hotel pool was admonished!

  and don't walk around the halls during the program, hold that boo-boo till intermission holmes!

  At Dodger Stadium, the biggest thrill was getting seats on the club level (always in the shade). The people you could always see there were the big shot elders. One thing I give my dad credit for is that he never sat up there, but then again he was always in the Spanich kitchen under the left field pavillion (back in the days when they actually made food for the J-Dubs).

  When we moved to New Mexico, we were always assigned to Amarillo, TX. We only saved seats for the family (8 of us usually). One time when I was saving seats for the family an overzealous elder came down to hassle me. I turned and faced him, and before he said anything his face turned white and he siad that he mistook me for someone else. This puzzled me (an adult male J-Dub differing to a 17 year old) till I realized that I had my badge on and that he realized who my father was by my last name and the Cong. that I attended.

  Anyway, for the most part I enjoyed the conventions. My parents always allowed me to go to the amusement park (in Amarillo) on Friday night. I think they understood the need to have some fun, and if I zonked out for a bit on Saturday, no biggie. Afterall my dad slept through most of the convention anyway, lol.

  something i've noticed on this board is that there seem to be many more liberal-left types than conservative-right types.

  what do you think of my following theories?

  in the 70s, many converts to jw-dom were influenced by the anti-establishment philosophy and anti-viet nam war.
