does anyone on here like science fiction?
i've read everything by all my favourite writers and am looking for some new ones.
any recommendations?
Ok this is not really Sci-Fi, but I think it may border on it. I am really into a series of alternative history books penned by Harry Turtledove. The premise is what would have happened to N. America and the world if the Confederates had defeated the U.S. during the Civil War.
Very interesting reading. Abe Lincoln turns Socialist. Upton Sinclair elected President. George Custer doesn't die at Little Big Horn. U.S. invades and occupies Canada.

as i read grenpalmtrees post to those of us that support president bush and the current iraqi war, i was reminded that i needed to do something concrete to show me support for this situation.
so i contacted camp pendleton (a marine base which has lost a number of troops in iraq), and spoke with an officer, and asked what i could do to support the families of those that have paid the ultimate price in this war.
he gave me a list of accounts, and i have since donated money to those accounts.

Well, the word many may be subjective, Six. However, in my experience that is what I have found. My opinion is based on the fact that I attended both of ANSWER's Los Angeles rallies, and from talking to those that supported the rallies.

I can respect one that has well though out reasons to oppose the war. However, they are few and far between. In my experience, and I do run with person of a number of different politacl bents, is that those that oppose the war, in general, oppose anything that is led by a Republican/Conservative. I'm sure the same is true for those that oppose anything Democrat/Liberal. The whole issue is this...toleration. The most intolerant people that I have ever met are from the left. I belive this is true based on my personal experience here in S. California, and after reading history.
As far as United We Stand goes. It's a nice platitude, but it'll never work again. I think that too many out there (both left and right, politically) are so admanatly oppossed to the other philosophy that neither can do something good in the others' eyes. Sad, but true.

Theocrat, yes I still preach. I do not, however knock on people's doors to do that. I evangelize at work, I evangelize in Old Town Pasadena, CA, and on the 3rd St. Promanade in Santa Monica, CA. If you are in any of these areas stop by and let's chat a bit.
I don't yell at people, but I work with a group that utilizes skits to draw a crowd, and I then ask them some questions. What happens next is up to them.
From my own investigation of www.bible.ca, it would appear that they arean off-whoot or part of the Church of Christ. Among over things they teach that a believer is not saved until he is baptized in their church, and according to their formula.
If you wish to read a very good book, by a good Christian scholar, I would recomend Why You Should Believe in the Trinity by Robert Bowman. This is the best book refuting every arguement in the Trinity brochure. I'm not sure where this book can be purchased directly, though I'm sure borders or barnes and noble should be able to get this for you online.
As an aside, I used this book in a side-by-side comparrison of the Trinity brochure, and it was key in my realization the the WTS was either guilty of sloppy scholarship or gross misrepresentation of the Trinitarian viewpoint.
If you want an exhaustive study on The Trinity, then I would recommend Dr. Robert Morey's book The Trinity: Evidences and Issues That book can be purchased from Dr. Morey's website www.faithdefenders.com.

When you "people" start to accurately protray how Joe Kennedy (father of saints John, Bobby and Teddy) was a pro-Nazi and was recalled by FDR from his post as Ambassador to Ireland beacuse of this stance, then maybe I'll give you lefties some credit. my wife is a jw.. i've been trying to point out the errors of the wtbts but she just doesnt want to hear it.. i'm wonder if some people could share your turning point in regards to your relationship goes.

what made you realize that the society was false.
When I compared what the WTB&TS quoted in the Trinity brochure to what was actually written in the books that they quoted from. I was shocked and dismayed by the sloppy scholarship, at best, or downright dishonesty, at worst. It was at that point that I realized the WTS, would never hold the Society in regard at all.
