do you vacillate between caring that he/she is still entrapped in this cult and wanting to show them everything you have learned since your awakening and not wanting to rock the boat and therefore just keeping all this knowledge to yourself?

i wonder if it is normal to go back and forth like i do.

one day i want to tell my husband something i may have read here or on another forum and maybe, just maybe i will pique his interest.

My wife and dughter still very much IN. When I (raised in the lie), announced I'd discovered it was a cult and simply stoppoed going...the wife is now more zealous in the filthy cult than she ever was when I was an elder.

She won't let me talk when I bring up why I left the Borg. It's a kind of fingers in ears 'La La La La LAaaaa I'm not listening. You can't make me...LALALALALALALALAALALALAAAA!' kind of response.

I fear she'll die in the Borg. Unhappy, depressed (as she is), wondering why big Jar-Hoover doesn't answer her prayers and hoping I'll return to the anti-Christ cult.

No amount of logig, scriptural or otherwise reaches her. *SIGH*

If you could choose one book to suggest to a JW...

i'm sure this isn't an uncommon question but i'll ask anyway.. suppose you had the chance to suggest one book, essay, article, or other writing with the goal of helping a loved one wake up... which one would it be?.

bear in mind the goal is to subvert the programmed hair-trigger defenses that cause a complete shutdown of critical thinking.

this automatically excludes anything that would directly place the wt society or its history in a negative light.

i wonder.

a very typcal witness may see the obvious negatives that jws know they have.

they might acknowledge that there's often a lack of love, that the elders can be demanding, that "new light" can change long cherished beliefs in an instant.......but still they cling on and resist any sort of intellectual discussion as to why the witnesses are off soooooo many times.....what gives??

I was a devout JDub. Raised in the lie. pioneered, MS and Elder with many responsibilities.

Yes, I had heard some things that didn't add up but I buried them as I waited on Jar-Hoover to vacuum them away.

It was during my service as an Elder that I saw the cracks, the lies, the deceit the weirdo reasoning. I was badly treated by members on the body who wanted nothing more than glory and power. I resigned and decided to build myself up 'spiritually' so did some REALLY DEEP study into 607BCE and other stuff. All the stuff I had doubts about but had burried.

Guess what! Yup! My doubts weren't answered but multiplied due to washTowel nutty reasonings.

The 'overlapping contempories' was one of the final straws - what a crock!!!

I didn't want to read 'apostate' stuff as I wanted to give the washTowel a fair hearing.

I started to read 'Combatting Cult Mind Control' by Steven Hassan. To this day I haven't got beyond chapter 4.........I don't need to! It all added up to WTBTS+DOCTRINE=DESSTRUCTIVE CULT!

Bottom line. I walked out of the KH one day and told my family that's it I quit!

SO. In answer to the thread question I'd say

Is It Impossible To Reach A Devout JW ??? No. But it might take something to happen to them that puts the WTBTS in negative light first.

Did having a Bethelite travel to your congregation and deliver a talk motivate, encourage, or excite you?

i ask this, because i just got wind that at my hall, we're paying the travel expenses for a bethelite to come and do our memorial talk.

i don't know how much this is going to run us, but i fail to see the practicality of it.

he's not delivering a special memorial outline or anything.

We had a London Bethel speaker. He had a strange comb over and a monotone voice.

It was like hearing 'Foggy Dewhurst' out of the UK TV show 'Last of the Summer Wine'.

Truly dreadful! I thought it was one of the worst things ever and I was an Elder and very much all for the 'trooOOOooooOoOoooth' at the time, too!

He read the concluding prayer from a sheet of paper. (I hope I'm not mocking someone who is very ill).

This is the stuff I really don't miss now I'm not going to meetings anymore!

Jesus vs Satan

my daughter, who's not a jw,is visiting me.

both her grandmothers are jw, so she went to.. meetings while growing up.

she is now telling me that she was told ......and always believed ,jehovah created satan first, before jesus.she says the bible speaks of satan in the book of genesis, but not jesus.

The JW's believe Jesus was 'created' first then "Satan" (not his name), after as he was just an angel then became "Satan" because he was a rather naughty boy with a snake. (Don't bother trying to find it in the Bible as JW's have their own doctored version of the Bible. (In any case they're virtually lead to believe Watchtower is inspired and the Bible isn't!)

To be honest. What JW's believe today could change at the drop of a hat under 'new light'. Then if you continue to believe the old opinion you could be DF for apostacy.

It's just a looney tune CULT so who cares what they believe!!

How Many Of You "Reached Out" For Extra "Privileges"?

whether you are a male or female, the organization was always making you try to reach out for extra privileges whether it be pioneering for a month, year or a lifetime, going to bethel, or becoming a "servant" in the hall.. did you feel compelled to "reach out" or did you want to do more for "jehovah god"?.

If I hadn't been an Eldub, I'd likely still be in slaving for the GB to get their money & power.

Being an Eldub opened my eyes to all the Pharisee like crap that goes on in secret.

I'd reccomend everyone to reach out........more would leave! (Not really)

i sat in on the "know your options" reading tonight, and the elder said a couple things i was wondering about:.

1. he said if a doctor says you have a high risk of dying if you refuse a blood transfusion, he is misleading you.

1. The Doctor is qualified the Elder is not! David Reed in his book 'Blood on the Alter' mentioned something along the lines of up to 9k JW's died for refusing blood in '96 (Correct me if I'm wrong I'm going on memory).

2. Where's the proof of these statements? Who did they poll? This is the cult propoganda tactics of the 'Fallacy of over generalization'.

...........and they claim they are not a dangerous suicide cult! My 'symbol of life' boils!

Are you a fader, Df'd, DA'd, or Still In?

i thought this would be an interesting poll that would show everyone the backgrounds of all of us when we left, if we have.. for myself, i am not df'd, but i am attempting a fade.

i still go to some meetings with the wife to help with kids, but that's it.

no commenting or field service.. what about everyone else?.

I 'woke up' around march10. In may I announced to my family that I wasn't going back to the meetings. They didn't join me and are more zealous now than when I was an elder!!! *SIGH*.

I'm not DF and won't DA as I no longer recognize the Borg's authority.

I wouldn't say I'm exactly a fader more of a 'lights out' guy!

I've told the elders not to contact me................although they have tried............for 'apostacy'..........without 2 witnesses. I recon they want to do a bit of a 'tidy up' and get rid of me as I'm an embarassment to them for the way I just LEFT!
