For non-believers: What evidence would it take for you to believe in 'god'?

@ still thinking. I was talking to my son last night. He said he never believed in the JW stuff but always felt there was a khama thing going on. What you do brings you good or bad.
I don't know. This thread has got a bit......er, how would I describe it...? Mystical?
I have never heard god call to my heart or that stuff. I'm a down to earth bloke and look for down to earth answers I suppose.
Perhaps I'm a bit of a philistine?

by undercover ini've seen a few threads/posts where some of y'all have heard from jw contacts and how they've stepped up their 'the end is close' rhetoric because of the earthquake/tsunami in japan.
i usually take those things with a grain of salt.
there's always some jw whose cheese has slipped that reads prophecy into every little thing that happens.

The wachtower harps on about the objection that people say earthquakes aren't increasing it's just that they are now being recorded better is wrong. I think this was in a recent mag.
Yeah. Well they would poo poo a totally valid objection.....it doesn't fit their agenda. $$$$$$$$$$$$

If Witnesses Really Cared......
by metatron inbeing "in" a religion and actually believing its doctrines are two different things.
i have little doubt that there are probably many leaders in the major religions who are actually agnostics and simply go thru the motions of being faithful to whatever ritual is asked of them.. this is possible because most religions put forth some effort to help people in some organized way - whether soup kitchens, public charities, hospitals or the like.
it gives people who are zealous - but privately heterodox - a chance to be supportive.. sadly, this will never be the case with the "truth".

I said to zealous dub Mrs Punk that I'd like to help out in a soup kitchen.
She replied: 'Why would you want to help those down and outs? They should help themselves!'
Me: 'That's a bit judgemental isn't it? Many of those 'down and outs' can't help themselves. Some just need help and the opportunity and if I can help in some way surely that's a good thing?!?'
Zealous dub Mrs Punk just sneered. I think this is NOT really her authentic self but the part that has had her mind controlled.
She disgusted me to be honest!!

Perusing the free Watchtower i got yesterday
by AuntBee ini said i had no cash on me, i wasn't lying.. in the article (3-1-11) entitled what is god's kingdom, there is a paragraph about christendom's confusing explanation of what the kingdom of god is.
the last 'confusing' explanation listed says, "the kingdom of god is righteousness and peace and joy from the holy spirit" as quoted from the catholic catechism.
it sounded familiar, and i found it in romans 14:17, "for the kingdom of god is not meat and drink; but righteousness, peace and joy in the holy ghost.

April 15th WT - WT Society says " Obeying Us is Same as Obeying God "
by flipper inthis is a non-study article in the witness only version of the april 15th titled " do you discern the evidence of god's guidance ?
" essentially in this article the alleged " faithful slave " is telling witnesses that to be approved to survive armageddon- they will have to recognize the " faithful & discreet slave's " authority in their lives.. notice these direct quotes from pg.
4 , " jesus christ is the assigned leader of the congregation.

Andrew sat down at the table with his steaming coffee sending it's beautiful aroma to tantilsie his senses. This is a comforting smell. He smiles to himself:
'Silly me. God didn't lie! The governing Body are just imperfect men doing their best. Yes. That's it. That must be it! Phew....for a moment there I almost lost my faith. If that happened all my friends and loved ones would shun me! what a close shave!'
Deep within Andrew's subconsciuos the familiar pain of 'coganitive dissonance' once again rippled.
On the TV Andrew noticed there had been an earthquake and tsunami in Japan. He smiled. Satisfied the end would come shortly.
After all the year is 2011.
...............alternative ending..................
Suddenly in a bizarre and unexpected accident an anvil fell on Andrew's head.
At his funeral the Brother giving the talk gave praise to the Governing Body and told those grieving to cure their pain by going out in field service.

by finnrot ini was raised a jehovahs witness from birth, but even as a little child i had my doubts.
that's why i was never baptized.
i believed in jehovah but i just thought it was somehow a load of bullshit.

All too true Mary. I've thrown all my old mags into a landfill site but kept a couple as 'evidence' including the 1980 'apology' for 1975 which went along the lines of what you say '' it's OUR fault for um, 'reading too much in to what was said'. '' The 'um' was very Fred Franz whom I believe wrote the 'apology' for his own stupid prediction.
I had it said to me that the pressure the GB are exerting is to clear out the deadwood and only have a cult full of those who blindly obey.
Hmmmmmmm. Not sure about that.

Has he? Then why don't they take SOME RESPONSIBILITY when things are/go wrong or endanger the lives/mental health of people?
