Hojon,
I wish you and your new wife all the best.
Yes, cataract sugery is good these days, and easy.
Best wishes,

i am after a little input on something.. i am wondering what your thoughts are on parents not preventing pregnancies from occurring when they have already produced a child or children with a genetic defect???.
is it fair or even moral to bring a child into the world when you have already proven that one or both parents genes are defective.
i am speaking here of children that suffer and will not live normal life spans.. i personally could not do this.

Thanks all,
You have all made very valid points.
Dedalus....that's ok....it's easy to skim a post.
I was speaking as I believe all of you understand : A child that has "serious" defects....eg...rare conditions that can only result in early death of the child and cannot be helped my medicine.
I could not, as Mango said, out of love do this to a child.
But of course this is a personal decision. I as a mother find it quite emotionally disturbing.
Hojon,
To have screening done is extremely mature.....I wish it was around when I was giving birth. Fortunately I have not had a child with defects.

Dedalus,
I think maybe you misunderstand my post. I would gladly take care and love a child of my own with numerous defects.
What I am asking is "would it be right for me to keep pro-creating with full knowledge of what I was doing"? With todays technology.

Hi All,
I am after a little input on something.
I am wondering what your thoughts are on parents not preventing pregnancies from occurring when they have already produced a child or children with a genetic defect???

I personally could not do this. I would love a defective child if I gave birth to one, but I definitely would not be so cruel as to go and have another, even if the risk is only 1 in 4.
I am amazed at the amount of people who deliberately do this and use the excuse "I didn't think I would fall pregnant"
I know someone personally who has done this and the subject actually gets me a little riled up. I just wonder when selfishness ends and the ability to rationalize a situation like this becomes a genuine need for thought and discussion amongst parents.
Sad for the children
Any input most welcome,
Ana
edited for typo's...should be sleeping !
i've been out for a year and miss a couple of my friends a lot.
someone told me a saying yesterday, though, that some friends are for a reason, some are for a season and some are for a lifetime.
i'm usually not into corny sayings but that one made me think.
Jayne,
Welcome to the board!
Many of us have walked the road you are now walking. It is not an easy road and it often feels to me like it is never ending and I find that pleasant.
Always learning, experiencing new things. I was 16 when I left and extremely socially inept. But I soon learnt very slowly to not feel like the "odd one out".
Like Simon has said about his friends, I can also say the same. I love them and they love me; flaws and all.
That's going to be a wonderful thing for you to experience Jayne, unconditional love. You will treasure friendships that you will make forever.
Drop into chat sometime and chat with us all.
Kind thoughts,
Ana
i have rarely found anything written by active jws here.
it causes me to wonder if this was actually set up by an active jw and got out of hand.
especially since the site asks us not to stumble our brothers.. ooooo....i have been warned about evil boards like this!!
Eyebrow,
I raise my eyebrows....tut, tut, you are at a site you shouldn't be at??
What makes you think that some of the posters here are not JW's that are acting like "normal" people????
Rather than programmed robots. Is this a place where they feel free??
Maybe,
Ana

for those who make a choice, decision or reality to leave off being a member of the jehovahs witnesses, it comes down to, either ceasing to believe in god as the creator, or....choosing to let him examine your heart and see that the direction that was taken, was done in total honesty and in total agony because of the choice made.. and i guess that is all we can ask of ourselves as humans, that we make all decisions from knowledge and from reason and from inner conviction.
god will surely take that into consideration,,,because we are made in his image, and therefore ...... so for mrmoe, for others struggling with the ramifications of seperating from the organisation, just follow what is in your heart and gain all the information you can to make your own life decision...and then live it.
LOL's Deac,
Are you pregnant??
On a more seious note........I can see what you are getting at.
In other words if we left the WTBTS due to a total and heartfelt reason..eg..the doctrines, or we just "knew" it was not the truth we can relax as having done the right thing....

found this on the net......very interesting seeing as it comes from the jw's own literature.. 1960 "the scriptures justify the 'war strategy' of hiding true facts from the enemy.
" (watchtower may 15, 1960, page 295) .
1960 "as a soldier of christ he is in theocratic warfare and he must exercise caution when dealing with god's foes.

1960 "As a soldier of Christ he is in theocratic warfare and he must exercise caution when dealing with God's foes. Thus the Scriptures show that for the purpose of protecting the interests of God's cause, it is proper to hide the truth from God's enemies." (Watchtower; 6/1/1960; p. 352)
"While malicious lying is definitely condemned in the Bible, this does not mean that a person is under obligation to divulge truthful information to people who are not entitled to it. … Evidently the course of Abraham, Isaac, Rahab, and Elisha in misdirecting or in withholding full facts from non-worshipers of Jehovah must be viewed in the same light.-Ge 12:10-19; chap 20 [Abraham lying to Pharoah and Abimelech]; 26:1-10 [Issac lying to Abimelech]; Jos 2:1-6; Jas 2:25 [Rahab lying to king of Jericho]". (Insight on the Scriptures, it-2 245, Note: bracketed text [ ] added. It would be interesting to see how Jw's view Noah's example of getting drunk and Lot's example of incest.)
1993 "Rahab--Declared Righteous by Works of Faith, What about Rahab's misleading words to pursuers of the spies? God approved of her course. (Compare Romans 14:4) She took a risk in order to protect his servants, giving evidence of her faith. While malicious lying is wrong in Jehovah's eyes, a person is not obligated to divulge truthful information to people who are not entitled to it. Even Jesus Christ did not give full details or direct answers when doing so could have brought unnecessary harm. (Matthew 7:6; 15:1-6; 21:23-27; John 7:3-10) Evidently, Rahab's course of misdirecting the enemy officers must be view in that light." (Watchtower 114:24, Dec. 15, 1993, p. 25)

well, it happened.. just this morning i was talking to my aunt, a life-long book sales rep for the wbts.
she asked me, "lisa, do you ever think you'll come back?".
i replied, "come back to what?
Lisa,
What you have done takes a lot of courage.
I looked my Mother straight in the face and told her I would never return. Strangely she thanked me for my honesty.
I think they know of my "apostate" doings, but pretend nothing is going on, that way they don't have to shun me.
They have shunned me before, but my Mother cannot handle it. I am grateful that she has some maternal instinct in her. I am not even her natural daughter......I have 5 adoptive sisters that are all JW's and only one of them gives me trouble.
I tell her to "watch her children"!!!
Ana
I will defend, to your death, my right to my opinion.
