hi friends!.
so my story is this: i married a jw who was inactive and once we got married he got back into "the truth" and i started to "study" with people in his congregation.
i had many red flags and was hesitant to knocking on doors, but after a year of "what does the bible teach" being studied with a pioneer and having been pressured to go to meetings, i too, became a jw.
Conventions, on the other hand, are like a blood transfusion...
Does anyone else see some humorous irony in this illustration?
can someone enlighten me as to what is the new understanding vs the old one regarding the vision of the statue was given by god to king nebuchadnezzar of babylon in a dream?
i have asked two of the jw's who work with me and neither of them were able to explain it to me.
the best i got was "well the feet and clay are not just the u.s. and great britain, they are i think most of the big powers as a whole or something like that.".
USED TO BE that the 10 (number meaning completeness) toes indicated that the feet encompassed ALL nations of the world at the time of the last World Power (Anglo-American). New light (which really reverts back to a previous explanation) is that the 10 toes have no special meaning -- that they do not depict all the world's kingdoms. Rather, all feet just happen to have 10 toes, and the feet represent the final World Power -- Anglo America. It is the feet that are struck by the stone (God's Kingdom), thus the Anglo-American WP will be in place at the time the Kingdom takes power.
That's the NEW LIGHT.
just curious, do they give you any kind of documentation?
is it all just by word?
surely they would have to give you something?.
Usually they prefer to notify you verbally. Better to have nothing in writing.
ive recently decided not to be a witness anymore and at the age of 28 was still so afraid to tell my parents.
the truth is their life and knew i would hurt them.
ive had such a battle with the elders and because my dad is an elder its even worse.
Newcomer: I share those feelings of guilt and fear......and I haven't even left the building yet. Hanging in there, semi-hypocrite for parents, wife, kids, friends. Perhaps having one foot in the door makes it even worse. I don't know. I'm a born-in. Believed it all, hook, line & sinker, until it recently began to unravel -- the veil was lifted. Dealing now with the "where shall I go?" mind set and weighing out the risks and costs associated with "inactive" "fading" etc etc
Best wishes.

i wanted to relate this experience i had on sunday while renewing ties with an old friend.
we argued about the meaning of daniel 4 and nebuchadnezzar's "tree dream".
my friend had insisted this dream told the reader the length of the gentile times.
I realised that 2520 was not in scripture, and therefore 1914 was not a date to be connected with Bible prophecy.
Don't forget, Chas Russell arrived at the 1914 date via measurements of the Great Pyramid. Nothing to do with weeks of years. When WTS says it pointed to this historic year for decades in advance, they leave out the Pyramid part of the equation. (Wonder why?)
the co is at my husbands hall this week so i tied in to the meeting he was going on and on about how there are 140 elders in the circuit and only 80 something ms's.
of the elders 25 are over 75 years old.
of the ms's it was about 20 are over 75 years old.
there are 140 elders in the circuit and only 80 something MS
The bigger issue is that the majority of those aren't smart enough to think on their own feet (a definite "no-no" in WT Land), thus crappy public talks, faulty decision making which runs up costs on building projects, puts Org as risk in some decisions, plus not able to make a living, let alone dump a lot of money into their religion -- of course it only takes 7,000,000 "widow's mites"
as part of my post-exit recovery, i've been doing quite a bit of thinking, trying to figure things out, trying to make sense of it all .... in the form of a "thought experiment" this question came to my mind, .
- matthew 24:34 .
i mean, i don't know what he meant and i'm ok with it.
Assuming they all are still true believers in the overall doctrine and rightness of the Borg, and assuming there are a good number of non-unanimous votes in the GB meetings there is a chance that at least one of the members is on the side of the losing vote more often than the others. If such a guy exists, does HE believe the GB - as a body - is directed by holy spirit?
Isn't God's Holy Spirit capable (powerful enough) of directing all things by UNANIMOUS decisions????? Regardless of how stubborn or ignorant one of the decision makers may prove to be?
joseph was a young handsome and good -looking.. he wasn,t married, his boss wife is all over him.. each day, joseph please lie with me.. ok here is the wife of the boss, you dam if.

young handsome and good -looking.....He wasn,t married, his boss wife is all over him.
I'd just be happy if MY WIFE was all over me!
not just from the bible, but from secular writers and others.
or other similar mistakes/lies regarding quotes and stories and things like that.. .
i have noticed a few, but i can't remember most of them... oops.
bumped
my brother and sister and their kids are visiting my jw dad for the weekend.
so my dad the smart ass invites 2 jw elders over to preach to my family (all non jw's) .
so my bro calls me on the phone, and they are argueing about the catholic church , trinity and blood.
Evidently, the truth is not backed by facts or evidence..
No, they would claim that it's FAITH.
Actually, it's CREDULITY.
