Ken,
That is not really a big number. First of divide the total by three. That comes to 900,000. Now assume that there were 5,000 at each convention. That comes out to 180 dollars per person. That is not a big number.

Are JWs really big spenders?
by Kenneson inyes, according to richard bivins, vice president of the albany, georgia convention and visitors bureau.
he did a study last year on the 3 weekends of jw conventions held there and says it brought in $2.7 million to the city.

JWs who come here
by larc ini find it curious when jws come here.
i would not want to go into any room or place and debate people who knew much more than i do, yet they do it.
i guess the scripture, "pride goes before a fall" fits people like this.

Hillary,
Yes, they think they are "right by default", because they accept everything written and said to them from the platform. When someone says, "wait a minute, that makes no sense", their programming is thrown off track.
Your point about research materials before we left is well taken. Most of us here know more about the religion than the vast majority of those in it.
Big Tex,
I like your term, "moral superiority". That is sure what that they have, and it is based on a foundation of sand, not rock.
Island Woman,
I agree that there are different kinds of JWs who come here. I try to be kind to them as much as I can be. The one's that I object to are those who are full of pride and castigate us for our choices in life.
Minimus,
You noted that they are not good defenders of the WTS. That is because it can't be defended. -

Over the past three years I have seen several JWs. Most only last a short time. They make assertions that simply can't be supported. I remember one young women who asserted that God always had an organization, all through history. That one was pretty easy to challenge. She never did respond to me, and left shortly thereafter.
Of the JWs who have visited, I liked You Know the best. Yes, he could be very difficult, but he was tenacious. I miss him. I wonder why he left. I think it had to do with the fact that with a number of clues, people were starting to figure out who he was and where he lived.
Well, those are my thoughts. What do you think about this phenomina? -

Question for SwordofJah
by happyout ingiven that your wts has frequently warned its members to stay away from the internet, and that bad association spoils useful habits, why is it that you persist in posting on this site, which is quite obviously populated by those that are disfelloshipped, disassociated, or, at the very least, spiritually weak?
if you lived near one of the more vocal posters would you willingly be seen by your body of elders having a conversation with them?
or, is it the ease of anonymity that allows you to be such a hypocrite and flaunt the rules of the organisation you pathetically claim to follow?

Sword of Jah,
I left the religion before the internet and before books were written about JWs. What prompted my leaving was the reading of older JW publications. The number of zany ideas were just incredable. SoJ are familiar with the crazy history of your religion? Any comments on Beth Sarim, Beth Shan, The Great Pyramid, organ transplants, 1925, the seven bowls of revelation, the king of the north and south, and the watchtower's association with the UN?
By the way, in what particular way am I evil? -

Poll- Did you have sex while unmarried when you were a JW?
by FreeofGuilt ini probably was the biggest slut in the kh- sex before baptized @ 13- sex after baptism when i was 17. oral sex about 5 times w/ different guys from the kh-- what can i say, i loved being a rebel, & love sex- i think the elders liked it to because i had to tell them the details (some guy always told), & they would probably get off later- never was disfellowshipped-- i am a good actress, but i thought the "holy spirit" guided them, well not because they believed my sobbing- --:-) kristine

The name of God
by ClassAvenger ini have a friend who is a jehovah witness.
once we started talking about prayer, and i told him that we referred to god as 'lord', or 'god', or 'father', for reverence or respect, although we did not have prohibited to say jehovah.
he said that i was wrong, that it was necessary to state that the prayer was for jehovah and not any other god.

Class Avenger,
There are a couple of other facts you might point out to your friend. In the Old Testemant, the name YHWH, the tetragramiton, the name of God, Jehovah in our language, was so sacred that it was not to be said publicly, except possibly, for the high priests. So, the Jews did not publicize the name, as do Jehovah's Witnesses.
In the New Testemant, the name, Jehovah does not appear in the text. Nonetheless, the Witness put it into their version of the bible in hundreds of scriptures. -

If Disfellowshipping Were Forcibly Banned
by AlanF in.
what do you think would happen to the watchtower society if disfellowshipping were forcibly banned by government decree?.
think about the implications for current jw leaders personally, for the doctrinal structure, for the power structure.. this is no mere theoretical possibility.. alanf

Do you think you will ever experience terrorism yourself?
by freedom96 ini bet the people in the twin towers never thought they would be the victims of a terrorist attack.
sometimes the stuff that happens overseas seem so far away.
i look around my community and find it hard to believe that anything is going to happen here.. i live in southern califonia, near san diego, and who knows?

Will I experience terrorism? The chances are slim to none. I don't freak out about things as unlikely as being hit by Terrorists or lightning. Shit happens now and then, and I can't do anything about it, so I don't worry about it.
If you want to worry, I am sure I could provide you a list of 50 things to worry about, from cancer to SARs. Get over it.
