Lizzie, in your response to me, you mentioned people who have no qualms with the religion. I was not referring to such folks. I was referring to those who have qualms and that is why they left. I certainly had qualms. Like you, it was not the people, but the belief system that caused me to leave. I knew that I would lose many friends as a result, many that I had from early childhood, but I could not be a hypocrite and stay in a religion that I no longer believed. ............................................................................................ Am I angry? No, but I do occasionally become angry when mistreated by a Witness, which has happed on several occasions over the years. Those are stories for another day, I quess. ............................................................................................ Carmel, wow, out for 45 years. You are one of the few that have been out longer than I have. I have been 42 years. We should swap stories about the "good old days" sometime, here on the forumn. Some things were much better back then.

Neutrality....
by PriestessLizzie ini've been reading this forum for a while now and finally decided to join.
i left the "truth" about 7 years ago for reasons i am not ready to go into at this time- mainly because i dont have the time to explain them at the moment.
though i do not believe entirely what the witnesses teach, i am surprised to see such anger and hatred towards them.

Elswhere, I would like to add that what the elder proposed is evolution and it is evolution at a very rapid rate. Did evolution also affect the birds? Wintesses are taught that all animals were vegetarian before the flood. So, how long did it take for carnivorous birds to develope? After all, there are major structural differences between meet eating birds and seed eating birds. For that matter, how long did it take lions to go from grass eating animals to meat eating animals? If such a thing is possible, the evolution was at the speed of light compared to what is known about evolutionary processes.

Welcome Lizzie. I agree with you on some points and disagree on others. Like you, I do not believe that the Witnesses are a cult. I have debated this point on several ocassions on the forumn. I do think, however, that they are a high control religion, about half way between a sect and a cult, as defined by socialogists. (since I can't do paragraphs I will try this) ............................................................................................ Like you, I think that the vast majority of Witnesses are good, sincere people who are trying to do their best. I don't have a quarrel with individuals. I do have a quarrel with the organization. I think they have many policies and procedures in place that are flawed. I think that the elder system is especially flawed. I think that the local congregations were better run before the institution of the elder arrangement. I also think the governing body is far worse than how the organization was run before its inception. ............................................................................................ Like you my JW mother was more liberal than other parents and allowed me to bend the rules in some areas. Unlike you, I was shunned even though I was never dissfellowshiped or disassotiated. My sister shunned me for 15 years. After a family crisis, me, my wife and my sister had to work on together, my sister has been very warm towards me. We converse on a regular basis. ............................................................................................ I have read many stories here where people were badly mistreated. I can't say if these stories are random or representative of all who have left. Perhaps, this place draws more people who have an axe to grind. Many of those who have experiences like yours may not feel the need to come here and seek out confirmation. I just don't know. At any rate, I am happy for you that your transition out of the religion and on to a different belief system was a relatively easy one.

I have been to both Cedar Point and King's Island. I prefer Cedar Point. It is on the edge of Lake Erie and any high ride gives you a nice veiw of the lake. Both places have similair rides, but I like the lay out of Cedar Point better. I just confered with my son, who pointed out that Cedar Point has better roller coaster choices. However, I will say that you will have a good time at either place.

Scholar, Johonssen was not the first persson do bring up these dates. Most Bible scholars believee it was 537, not 607. Name one reference outside of the Witness world that says otherwise. Frankly, I don't care in either case. What affects me are all the failed prohecies, from the late 1800's to the present days. Shall I name those dates for you??????

Stumbling is a term I never understood. Let's suppose I robbed a bank and a Witness was a witness to my crime. Would they decide to the same thing? The concept of stumbling makes no sense to me.

"Mother's Day Sucks"
by xjw_b12 inso say mothers.. cj and i were talking last week about mother's day and i felt she was dreading it.
the reason given was in order for us husbands and children to feel like we were giving mom a break on sunday, moms had to work extra hard on saturday to get all the regular work done, so mom could appear to relax on sunday.
i conducted an informal poll with other women and got the same replies.. so i issue this as a challenge to you husbands and children of the woman you love.

Tomorrow, on Mother's day, my wife is going to a zoo, in a large nearby city with my son and my grandson. They will have a good time. I will stay home and mow the grass and do some laundry. That will be just fine with me. Every mother's day is not a good one, but I think this one will be one of those.

Do you still preach?
by Theocrat inmany here are not jehovah's witnesses anymore because of one reason or another, but do you still preach?
do you still think that it is important for a christian to preach?
just wondering.

Theo, I think I used a bad example regarding cooking and feeding the poor, since the Witnesses do not feed the poor as do other religions. Please excuse me for my error.

Theo, as Little Witch pointed out regarding the scripture from Saint Paul, people have different gifts. Some are very good at spreading the word. Others are good at cooking and feeding the poor. The problem with the Witnesses is that everyone has to fit into one mold, that of preaching. Some are not good at it, and they could be more useful filling another role.
