My first major step to leaving wts behind was my interest in Mammoths and other ice age animals. When I realized that humans hunted mammoths, I KNEW that the flood could not have happened as depicted in the bible. Soon after that revelation, I did an indepth research paper on early humankind. I realized that the time table presented in the bible just couldn't support the time table science used. Believe it or not, before this revelation, I really did not think there was a conflict between bible accounts and facts---only the interpretation of the facts.

So, this video pretty much outlines the second step that led to my exit. Thanks for sharing it.

wife seen part of "dateline" online, about pedophile in JW land

a short update on my situation.. i am still in, trying to help my family to see the light.

my wife is open to critisize certain aspects of the wts, reads wt articles with a critical mind, but she still views them as gods org, and at times can get quit defensive about it.. last night though, she seemed devastated about a program she watched, reagrding pedophiles (dateline i guess).

she was very disturbed, even to the point of being depressed.

Hmmm. I wonder how she found that dateline on line? I mean did someone suggest it, or did she do a search. If she did a search, what prompted it? JW's are afraid to put something like "jehovahs witness pedophile" in the search engine. They worry about apostate information. Yet, she found that. Perhaps you could ask her in an off-hand way. If she actually searched for it, something may be brewing in her mind. Of course, I know you will still be very careful. I just think it would be helpful to know what motivated her.

an elder that studied with my ex told him that satan can't read our minds, so if we don't act on certain impulses, he won't know what to tempt us with.

in other words, he explained, if you see a porn mag and pick it up, then satan will work with that.

Maybe satan had used most of his budget up for that year New Chapter and all he could afford to tempt you with was an extra chocolate chip cookie.

Well, I wouldn't have minded waiting till the next year for the man!

I'm tired of beening asked to take surveys

yesterday i went to barnes and noble and bought something.

today i get an email from barnes and noble asking me to take a survey about my experience.

i was to receive a coupon for completing it.

This was a while back but here in my area So. California the Huntington Beach Police Department used Lucky Supermarkets records of who shopped there to arrest people they were looking for that had warrants out on them.

My brother refuses to get discount cards, because he says one day health insurance companies will one day buy the info from grocery stores and refuse to cover people based on their diet. I'm not sure if that will happen. Of course, if the new health care reform in the USA sticks, that won't be such a scary issue. Still, with your story, it makes me wonder.

Could Teaching Critical Thinking Abilities, End Cult Mind-Conrol Forever?

in my mind, every child that undergoes an education system, whether it be a within the family, a basic pre-school kindergarten type structure, within a monitored school curriculum environment itself, or, as part of a further education programme, the emphasis should be on teaching people how to think critically, and for the common good of all.. if this was indeed the case, probably very few would succumb to mind-control techniques later on in life.

cults would struggle to dupe and recruit new members.

the cult leaders themselves, would derive little benefit from their evil mind games.

Critical thinking is extremely important, but it is not the entire story. Emotion also plays a big role. For instance, my fear of hellfire made the jw teaching attractive. Of course, one could say that my belief in hellfire was not very critical. Yet, I was able to think critically about many other things--justnot that. Which made my emotions run high. Once they hooked me in, I methodically suppressed critical thinking to fit the rest of the teachings in.

What do I know? I got duped by a cult.

LOL! I did, just a couple months ago, through that EVIL FACEBOOK. We met for lunch and talk off and on. I remember why I broke up with him, but it's still nice having a little piece of my past here. He was my first boyfriend, and I dated him all through highschool and beyond. Growing up with him like that made me always want to know that he was at least okay.
