Needs help telling my mom that I dont want to be apart of her religion

i really don't know how to just tell my mom that i dont want to do be a jw, i mean i really shouldn't have to tell her if she'd actually pay attention to my attitude everytime she goes on a religious rant, but she chooses to stay blind and keeps making me go to that place and sit through meetings that i don't agree with on most occasions...i think that she thinks that if she keeps making me go then i'll miraculously have a change of heart and want to stay in (which will never happen).

i don't want to be disrepectful about it but since she obviously doesn't care about my feelings towards it, then why should i care if i hurt her feelings in the process, you know?

i just really don't know what to do, everytime i go to that place i feel fake because everthing they instruct us not to do, i've pretty much done it or will do it with no remorse, and i don't care either way.

Exactly! Accept this, and you can move on. What you say will NEVER matter unless you agree with her, or she wakes up. And I mean that in spiritual matters only, in other areas of life, I'm sure she is much more reasonable. Of course it doesn't make sense that you would sit at the hall and not really be there. That doesn't matter to her. What matters to her is she is following her god's direction as dictated by the governing body. She is trusting her god to do the rest.

VII's post is great. you can see that the witnessing never stops, but there are some great ideas for limiting the punishment. I wish ya the best. I hate to think of you moving out if you are not ready---so make lots of mature decisions and ask for guidance as you make plans for your future! Go to college!

She will never give up hope as long as she is captive. You can move away, but she will always look for opportunities to witness to you. She will listen to years of stories from the platform about husbands that have come in to the "truth" after 50 years, children that return to the "truth" after leaving home, living a horribly worldly life, and coming to their senses, Parents who opposed their children but were so touched by their good behavior, decided to give the WT a chance.

She believes it is your only hope, and the only way to survive armageddon. She sees the world as a violent and scary place and is worried that you are in it. You can tell her straight out that you want nothing to do with the KH, but she will not believe you. She will continue looking for an opening.

It's just the way it is. As long as you are dependent on her, you may have to play the game. Does she give you any options? It is nearly impossible to set up boundaries if you are still under her authority. 18 is a tough time, you are legally an adult, but depending on your circumstances, you may still be under obligation to obey your parents.

this concept is not just restricted to the anointed ones,it applies to all christians.everyone needs to be transformed from the 'old ways' of living to one that is led by the holy spirit at whatever levels that one is able to attain..

If I get born again, can I have a new set of genes? The one's I have are really f**ked up, and I keep getting weird diseases. I'd like longer arms too. Long arms are so graceful, and while mine are a perfectly respectable length, I'd like to look more like a dancer. I mean, if I'm never gonna die, then I should like my arms!

i was a gung-ho advocate for jws.

i got on the message boards and would argue down any detractor, apostate, church pastor, disgruntled ex-jw, you name it... i was out in the ministry constantly, practically running from door to door, preaching.

i started studies left and right.

That is your crime and pretending you don't know that is you being obtuse. You know there is no room for dissent. All must speak in agreement and be one. That is the driving force here, but you know that. You are proud that you were so enthusiastic about arguing with opposers. Your words:

I doubt you ever argued anyone down, but remember, the same zeal you use to disagree with us, to apologize for the WT, is the same zeal those elders are using on you. If you really think you belong there, then shape up and do it right

OR

You could acknowledge that you would not be visiting such a board unless you had some serious doubts. Perhaps you were protesting too loudly. Once your critical thinking has been tickled awake, it is hard to put down again. It's okay. We have all been where you stand, and we understand. Going from having all the answers to having very few answers if incredibly scary but liberating. Consider getting off the fence.

Getting upset with children who cannot sit through the meetings.

ok this thought came to me the other day.

i was thinking of the co who told me that he liked to see parents spank their children for not sitting still during the meetings.. i remember how hard it was to sit through two hours when i was four or five years old.

it was like forever.. i was thinking of comparing the hours that we have been alive to how long two hours is for a child.

I know of a young man with Down's Syndrome. He has an incredibly difficult time sitting still and being quiet. He is also full grown physically, so he can't exactly be restrained. His parents found that when he listened to music in a headset, at the back of an assembly hall, (yeah, the full day ordeal) he at least was able to be quiet, although he moved to the music, he did stand aside. People complained about him to their elders. Yeah. LOVE. The family also had another disabled, fully-grown child. No need to be long suffereing here though!

my wife was telling me about her friends mother that had faded for seven years and was living with a man.

she married him and talked to the elders about returning to the kh.

they told her they had to disfellowshipped her.

In no way do I ever want to defend the borg, but years ago I became inactive, and when I went back, I had to "discuss" some things. I was privately reproved. There was never the feeling that I had to be disfellowshipped first. I don't believe that is a widely accepted practice. I think they are still supposed to judge case by case. That said, it means they WANTED to disfellowship your wife's friend. It's a screwed up organization. Too bad she felt the need to return.
