hmm. I think I read a statistic that said there were 60% sisters and 40% brothers. That would indeed put them at a disadvantage. Sorry that you think dowdy looking means unworthy to date. You'll have that though.

i'll be the first to admit that i haven't done the research on this one, and i can't remember the answer from my jw days - but there's something bothering me about the scenario of judas and his betrayal of jesus.. considering that the betrayal of jesus by judas was foretold in prophecy, it was essentially set in stone.
it was going to happen, it was an absolute because divine prophecy is correct.
judas had to betray jesus in order to fulfil prophecy.. now, i've always personally believed that a person does not sin by an act that they cannot avoid, but this seems like kind of the motherload of standing on the traintracks.
JW's will argue that foreknowledge is different than foreordained. They will say god didn't make Judas do it, he just knew he would. Cuz he exercises his foreknowledge selectively. See? He doesn't know if you will decide to be faithful because he chooses not to. See? That used to keep me up at night.

I've known a few. One I suspect of being gay--but don't suspect him of acting on it. Still lives with his mother
Another--well still lives with mother and father. Socially stunted?
Another lived with mommy till he went to Bethel. Did eventually get married. Grew up?
Another was a successful business man and would be considered the catch. But once my friend got to know him, he was really boring. More social problems?
The thing is, if a JW man wants to get married he has a lot of options. Sisters claw each other aside for eligible brothers. So I think the majority of them stay single out of choice. For the sisters, many want to get married but there is no one to be found because most of their options have been cut off. It is a different dynamic. Also the borg used to reward single brothers with special schools, (maybe they still do) but now you can't be a missionary unless you are married.
I HATED dating as a Dub. The men just didn't seem to try all that hard because they knew choices were limited. Made me sick.

i think of myself as 'moderate libertarian' if i must attach a lapel card.
and i'm not sure that is entirely the correct one.. i endorse fiscal conservative thinking, believe in limited government, and a strong domestic defense policy.
in these areas, i could find myself in agreement with the talk show host.
just looking at latest yearbook and noticed something about the worldwide report (2010)... only 19 countries/lands reported an increase of 10% or more, and only 3 of those had 1,000+ publishers in 2009 (still under 2000 publishers in those 3 lands..) .
any thoughts?.
Well growth will eventually slow once they've reached all who will make the jump. Look at the US. In a country with only 1000 witnesses the addition of only 100 people is a 10% jump. Sounds impressive, but the numbers really aren't all that stunning. If some of those 1000 have children that reach age, the growth could be explained with just those children being baptized. Their statistics give so little detail. I'd like to see the statistics state how many baptized were raised as such, how many learned as adults, how many died, and how many no longer get counted due to inactivity or DF. We will never see that though. Ten percent jump sounds impressive enough and that is where they end the narrative.

There are many times when Beck's rants sound more religious than political. More common, he mixes his political and religious ideology to make politics a matter of faith. He has received the nickname Televangelist by some liberal commentators. He often speaks of the end of the world in Revelation terms, only he is willing to store gold and emergency packs to survive. There was one survival pack that he actually sponsered and was sold in connection with his name. He doesn't seem to distinguish between actual religions, he simply concentrates on conservative religious beliefs. He made the statement that Capitalism was God's way of teaching people to do right. On the other side, socialism is anti-god. It's a weird mixture, but it seems to work for him and his audience. I wonder why his conservative christian audience isn't more offended by the idea that Beck thinks he will become a god over his own planet when he dies. Unless I don't fully understand the Mormon belief, I believe that is what he thinks. Aren't they the ones that say as Man is, God was and as God is, Man will be. Something like that. Not an expert though.

LOL AK. By today's standards, Reagan and Goldwater are liberal. Don't feel bad. Just don't let them move the compass on you and insist that you move with it. Stay where you are and if that puts you farther to the left it's because they moved the pole--not because you moved. But then, maybe you are becoming more liberal! In that case, can I help you along?
i am fairly new to taking a stand on what i have long felt about the org.
no longer an elder now (big weight off my shoulders), and really find i am researching on this board all kinds of things i suspected and are now confirmed.
looking back over the years i had many intuitions about some situations and never took action on those feelings.
When I first visited this site, I thought I was going to flunk a semester of college because I just couldn't stop reading and posting. That was 4 months ago, and I had to forcefully stop coming here to keep my 4.0. LOL Now it's summer and I find I'm as addicted as ever. Should be a 12 step program.

"young people ask" book admits 97% of youths masturbate...to put it into perspective, it's like saying 97% of the worlds population own a phone or a t.v!!
so is it realistic to believe these witnesses going thru puberty and teenage years won't on penalty of death?.
i always thought, if nearly 100% of teens do it isn't it normal?.
I remember that there was a letter from the GB that the CO read at an Elders meeting, in which it was stated that if the person thought of a real person at the time of committing the act, than Jesus words that if you keep looking at a woman...... you have in your heart already committed adultery was used.
LOL, using this reasoning then---could one become guilty of adultery and free the other spouse?? Oh--and do you think if it is the same as the real thing that one should use birth control? Pervs. Berean, do you remember when that letter was sent? I heard of someone getting DF'd in the 70's for it and was just stunned.

i have read articles about peter sutcliffe (he brutally killed 13 women in the north of england in the 70s ) becoming a jehovahs witness in broadmoor and jehovahs witnesses have commented about him being a "changed man " etc and also the man who is serving 5 years for his part in the death of baby p becoming a jehovahs witness , i commented to my husband that his mum (jw ) would technically feel more comfortable having a chat and a coffee with them (because they love "the truth" ) than her own disfellowshipped children !
does this kind of story annoy those of you who are slandered for being "apostate" etc by family ?
and why dosnt it make die hard jws see the craziness of it all ?.
Killing women and babies a big deal? Well their own god does enough of that to desensitize them. BUT TO CALL OUT THE GOVERNING BODY---now THAT is evil.
