Raising children as JW's
by lancelink intonight my wife and i attended a christmas play held at a local church.
it was really cute, 4-8 year olds recreating the whole christ story, when suddenly this totally empty feeling hit me like a punch to the face.
i realized how much we missed out with our own two kids by raising them as jws.

First "Big Meeting" for our hall was tonight
by Iwonder17 inso we hadour first big meeting tonigh ( bookstudy, ministry school and service meeting ) here are my observations:.
1) even though it is the same amount of time, it seemed verrrrry long.
2) it seemed like a circus.....too many parts that did not relate to the others....seemed like a crossword puzzel with 6 different languages.

If someone gave a researched or heartfelt comment, you could feel the tension in the room, Like they didn't know the "rules"
Before I left, in my early 20's, I would give an answer that I had thoroughly researched.....no matter how much heartfelt preparation went into it, the brother conducting the WT study never said anything. Just called on the next person. Who dutifully read their answer from the paragraph.

Dammit I want to lodge a complaint. Sacrificial Loon stole my answer. He must have done his personal study this week, LOL.

Oh yeah, the "Question" and "Answer" session, which doesn't actually mean you get to ask meaningful questions, it means that you get to repeat back, word for word, what the magazine just told you.

Not letting their children celebrate one holiday, join in any school functions, or 'parties' ....and then proclaiming themselves the HAPPIEST people on earth.

I read the linked article, and all I've got to say is that, at some point, we're going to learn our lesson about going with the 'lowest bidder.'
The bid that included the Nuctech scanner, which was cheaper than rival bids submitted by Smiths Detection, a British company with offices in New Jersey, and Rapiscan Systems, of Torrance, CA, was formally submitted to the port by a small U.S.-based business headquartered in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, known as DULY Research Inc.” (gsnmagazine.com, Oct. 16, 2008). “We were cognizant of the fact that we were the first port to acquire this Chinese system,” said George Cummings, the port’s director of homeland security. “They were the low bidder and they complied with all the technical requirements.”
Turning over Homeland Security to companies from countries who have historically been at odds with democracy and human rights....brilliant move, Federal Government.

Metro Sexual
by Sparkplug inso...i was speaking with a friend that is still in.
(long story) anyhow, he told me that there was an article against metro sexual males.
something along the lines of over adornment and too much primping.

The last time I lost my temper about the grooming of JW males was about three years ago when some dad was dragging his kid around the neighborhood.
The kid was about 16, he had his hair slicked and coiffed neatly to the side in a business man's hairdo, and he was wearing a suit and a trenhcoat over it.
Let me tell you something I am not too proud of.....I lost it--I went ballistic.
His pantsuit was like a bad solar collector, double knit polyester.
I told the dad he should be ashamed of himself, pimping out his kid to sell religious pamphlets.
Bad memory. poor kid. Perhaps there are a FEW and I highlight FEW metrosexual dudes but the fact remains most JW youth are sorely out of touch with style.

Every year we swear we're gonna scale back. Every year we welch on our word. I'll put up some pics tomorrow of the 10 foot noble fir completely covered in gifts.

Because we are concerned about Santa's ever expanding waistline, we put out a plate of carrots and celery and granola bars for the REINDEER. The Reindeer do most of the heavy pulling and lifting so it makes sense to leave them some complex carbohydrates for energy. (I chew on them after he goes to sleep LOL, and leave the 'remains' scattered on the table near the fireplace....)
Tonight he wrote a note, "Dear Santa, Sorry we didn't leave you milk and cookies, we just don't want you to get too fat!!!!"
