My JW Mothers' Words Of "Love"
by Ranchette inwell, i just received a letter from my mom and i dont know how to describe my feelings at this time.
i thought id share parts of it with you and see what yall think.
i will delete names and add my own words in parenthesis to describe whom shes talking about.. after a few lines of small talk she says this..........i do want to tell you, since (you and your husband) have rejected the truth, i am so glad (your son) is not old enough to join or be drafted into the military.

Ranch I should remind you, I'm having the pregnancy from hell. I'm not DFd or DAd and still my mother hasn't picked up the phone once to call me. I'm 7.5 months now, I've already made it clear to my Dad I don't want her out here when the baby is born. Why should I open myself up to criticism about how I care for a baby from someone who didn't even care enough to call me?
You too will get to the point where you won't open yourself up for this hurt. Until then, the best thing you can do is say "I love you mom but I don't agree with you." This has worked wonders for me and my sister.

she had a newborn son and had just married her worldly boyfriend, the father of the baby.

Here's one I posted on another thread, but in case you missed it...

My sister da'd herself about 5 years ago over gambling. The local elders were intent on prying into her personal business. Why do I say personal? Because she isn't married and has no kids, and gave more than her share at the hall.
Well they didn't like it, because she was a high stakes gambler that was her job and she would show up at the hall dripping in gems and shit, and most of the elder body except my father lived in a double wide. One of the elders got so mad he had to leave the room, after she told him one night's take equalled his annual salary. (HE ASKED.)
So you can see this caused problems. They formed SEVERAL judicial committees, and my sister was nice enough to tolerate them all.
The last straw? She told them, she was more than willing to stop gambling and just say she would wait on Jehovah for refinement. Of course, she had done all of her own research and was able to stupify them by asking them to draw comparisons between stock market and gambling--how did they differ?
Anyhow, the elder body told her they wanted to hear her say the words "I think gambling is wrong." and she refused to .... So they gave her 7 day notice of DF, and she wrote out a DA letter.
PS First this went all the way to the DO who recommended they stop prying but they claimed 'some' in the cong. were being stumbled by seeing a young woman dripping in cash with no job.
Of course, the only ones who saw her contribution checks were the elders, and although they cashed them happily still had the balls to question 'Where was she getting her money?' When they found out, they never offered to return any of it.

Nathan I should have made it clearer--I'm not advocating Tupperware parties--ha ha don't be funny.
What I'm saying is these terrorists have a handbook that teaches them how to exploit the weaknesses of American Society and this was mentioned on several occasions in the book.
You and I both know neither Brinks nor ADP sells the best home security system--the best one is that nosy little old lady who watches everything.
Many Americans want to know 'what can I do to help?' This is one clear weakness that we CAN do something about.
Also, these boys have been instructed to rent Apartments in 'new complexes' where 'people don't know one another.' Why not require three letters of reference, and especially if they are an alien, from three US citizens?
We can't prevent these tragedies, but I think there is a lot we can do to make it more difficult for these terrorists.

Because of who you think I am, you have read FAR TOO MUCH into my posts.
I have NEVER espoused reparations, only pointed out some valid arguments for the legal precedents which have been set in this and other lands.
My position is more similar to Julie's than either YOURS or UR's, which I think are both hardline leftist and rightist.

I surely didn't start slavery, I mentioned my family never owned slaves. I didn't stop it either. At 32, I'm too young to remember most of the civil rights struggle.
However, it is my responsibility to leave the world a better place. That is the burden I have.
I didn't answer your question on reparations because most of them are hypothetical, and can't be answered. Responsiblity, guilt, nor victimization can ever be bought and paid for.
There are, however, things our society can and must do. And until we willingly step up to the plate and accept responsilibity, we're gonna keep on hearing about reparations.
I do find it odd that Bill Clinton went to Africa and apologised to the Africans for slavery, but never had the balls to do it in this country! Why? An apology means you've accepted responsibility!
I would far prefer it if our leaders would have the balls to say, "Slavery is a scar on this great nation's sould. We won't pay ONE RED CENT in reparations. We will, however, ......."
I hope I live to see that day.

I don't even know you and yet you are one of the most judgemental people I 'know.' Sigh. The can of Whoop Ass is now open. Not only have I remained unemotional about the whole argument, my postion has been one that maintains that race is not an easy dialogue in our country.
