Subject: JW's please answer my questionIf the Watchtower Society is so peace loving then why do they own stock in a bomb factory?
According to the annual report, Rand Cam Engine Corporation is 50% owned by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Rand makes parts for "smart" bombs.
I found this information on watchtower.observer.org under the heading JW's and money. To confirm this article, I checked with the Securities Commission and Rand's own annual report. There is no denying that the WT owns stock in this company.
Can anyone confirm this? If this is true then it appears that there might be a divine source that is causing these things to come to light.

Has God always used a visible organization?
by Leander ini've been talking to a couple of people from my kingdom hall about the society's involvement with the un.
i mentioned that i had serious concerns about this recent news.
i noticed that in both instances in my speaking with these individuals they tend to use the reasoning that even if the society really is involved with the un that there must be a good reason for it.

I've been talking to a couple of people from my kingdom hall about the Society's involvement with the UN. I mentioned that I had serious concerns about this recent news. I noticed that in both instances in my speaking with these individuals they tend to use the reasoning that even if the Society really is involved with the UN that there must be a good reason for it. And the second line of reasoning is that what other organization has accomplished what the Society has. (in terms of preaching on an international scale and understanding of the scriptures)
It seems that in every discussion that is had about the Society's mistakes it always leads back to the reasoning that out of all the religious organizations the WTS is the only one doing this or that and that God has always needed an earthly organization.
So my question is "Has God ALWAYS used a visible organization"?
At first thought the answer would seem to be yes when you reflect on the bibical accounts of the Israelites and the first century Jews and congregations. But what about the time period between the 1st century and the 18th century? There were quite a few decades where there was no mention of supposedly God's true organization.
Anyway those are some things that were going through my head this morning. What are your thoughts on this?

Is there a scriptural basis for....
by Leander inhaving an earthly organization?.
it seems whenever you talk to someone about mistakes or failed prophecies that the society has made they always ask the question where else are you going to go?.
while i agree there has been a lot of good things the society has done i still don't understand why many choose to ignore the fact that by the society making numerous failed predictions they fulfill the scripture at luke 21:8. then theres also the scripture at deut.

Does anyone know if the Society is teaching any false doctrines?
Right now I'm doing a lot of research to find out if everything that they teach is truly from the bible.
In particular the topics I'll be researching are:
Blood
Preaching (I'm really interested in how they come up with a particular number of hours that every loyal servant of God is supposed to be making)
The Wild Beast in Revelations (I'm looking to find out if there is a particular scripture that condemns those who associate or mingle with the Wild Beast (Unite Nations))
Trinity (is this really a false doctrine)
144,000 and the great crowd (I'd like to find out if the teachings on these things are really correct)
If anyone has any information on these things that are contrary to what the society is teaching please let me know.

Also does anyone know are there any other organizations that have made numerous predictions?
Are there any religions that change their doctrines when they learn they have made a mistake?
Finally do any other religious groups use the name Jehovah?

I found this on the WTS website concerning the UN
by Leander inthis is actually posted under the first massive thread about the society and un, but i thought maybe it should have a post dedicated to this shocking softening of opinion.. my original post was as follows:.
i just shared the information with my wife about the society and the un.
she then replied that this situation was no different than paul making use of the goverment to further the preaching work.

My original post was as follows:
I just shared the information with my wife about the Society and the UN. She then replied that this situation was no different than Paul making use of the goverment to further the preaching work. Thats when I mentioned that the Society as a NGO is required to promote the ideals of the UN. Well at this point she asked me to show her where in the magazines or publications did the Society support the UN. Since I could'nt provide her with any proof she left for the meeting on a triumphant note. However when she got home I kind of gave her a shock because right on the Society's website is a charter of the UN's stance on the rights of children. After seeing that webpage she got quiet and so I thought it wise to change the subject, but I think the point was made.
For anyone interested in those webpages just follow these 2 linkshttp://www.watchtower.org/library/g/2000/12/8/diagram_01.htm
http://www.watchtower.org/library/g/2000/12/8/article_03.htm - Notice what is said at towards the bottom of the page. Better yet I'll paste the paragraph below:
Under God's Kingdom humans will be enabled to rear children in a balanced way. (Job 33:24-26) <b>Young folks will be raised in the spirit of peace and universal brotherhood, the ideal set forth in the UN Declaration of the Rights of the Child.</b> (Psalm 46:8, 9) Never again will there be the need for an International Year of the Child or for a Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Rescued!!
by Chrissey ini think its wonderful that there are so many who chose to tell their story here.
some are very similar, some very different, but no matter what the story is that is told one fact remains; lives will forever be changed, and must be lived.. i'm no different than any other df'd jdub.
i was baptized at 15, quit public school and started regular pioneering.

Oh wow, Chrissey. I am so sorry to hear about your brother and the things you had to put up with in your family. I'm glad you're doing well enough to share your experience.
I'm new to this board and I look forward to talking to you and others in the future

First century disciples vs the Society
by Leander ini'm having a discussion with my wife about the society's changes in doctrines and failed predictions.
she basically is using the argument that the society is fallible just like the the first century disciples.
so this neatly excuses the society for any erroneous teachings or failed prophecies.. how would you counter-argue that type of reasoning?

Can anyone direct me to the scriptures were the disciples had the wrong understanding?
