say you were god, and you happen to have fallen asleep for these past couple of thousand years.

you wake up to see all the turmoil and such happening in the world.. what would you do to make yourself known and to improve things in the world?.

i'll start it off.

What would you do to make yourself known and to improve things in the world?

I'll start it off. I would make a global broadcast via tv's, cellphones, and any other means possible (like you know, for the indiginous people of the rain forests that have no modern devices) to make myself known. I would then proceed to write my name clearly on the moon (I just hope asteriods don't erase it) and also set out ground rules for everyone to follow, for peace and prosperity.

The thing is, what if after all this, people are still assholes? They have free-will right? They can still choose to snort cocaine, war, etc. How much would I really have to interfere to improve things, without interfering with free-will?

What if I promised an afterlife, but people decide to live in the "now", and nothing changes?

I have already:

1.) shown myself beyond doubt that I am indeed God.

2.) shown people what they must do, if they are to lead happy healthy lives.

3.) I have a future provision of better life guaranteed, but they must act in this life.

Isn't it really up to the people then, whether they shall or shan't follow me?

What is the spark that powers Evolution?

How do the processes that are described as "evolution" know the way to the finished function?

Nancy, maybe I can elucidate with an analogy. Would you describe the Grand Canyon as designed by God? You may say, certainly. Even you would recognize, however, that there were forces that shaped the landscape for milenia. Even if you believe God exists, you cannot say he shaped the Grand Canyon to the shape it is. These are natural forces at work. The erosion of wind and water. Yet, you might contemplate its majesty along with a beautiful sunset and come to the conclusion (my, this couldn't have gotten here on its own)...... You see what I'm getting at here?

What sparked the Grand Canyon? What sparked techtonic plates? The more you investigate, the better you grasp how natural forces carved and moved things to be so. And yet, don't get semantical on me and say, "Why would natural forces move anything?" Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. You need to reach an axiomatic truth on subjects like these. What is the base on which we can all agree with, so that discussion can move forward, and not entrench itself in a singular mindset?

Nancy, perhaps when looking to things like this, it is better to be investigative. Consider yourself a detective. You must gather as much information as you can, before you can reach a conclusion.

Is homosexuality ever justifiable? I say YES!!!

in the january 2012 awake, pages 28-29 there is another article about homosexuality.. .

the writers argue that genetics, the environment, and sexual abuse do not justify homosexuality.

the bible clearly states that homosexuality is wrong and is an abhorrent sin.

Just a comment, and I hope I don't offend.

I think you can never reconcile the bible with your own beliefs. It's pretty straightforeward on homosexuality. That goes for any kind of 'sin'.

In any case, I do encourage you to continue to seek. You might stumble upon a belief you are comfortable with, or adhere to your own specific belief.

I wish you the best on your journey to self-discovery.

P.S. I think it's stupid to deny friendship to someone just because of sexual orientation (although I think tranny is going too far...)

@Diest, I by no means am defending the account but, I've heard that it is about perspective. From a person's perspective here on earth, the sky wouldn't have cleared up from all the volcanic gases, therefore, the sun wasn't visible.

At least, that is the explanation I have heard.

The hard ones for me to swallow are the Flood and the Tower of Babel.

The Flood is logistically impossible and for the Tower of Babel, it seems like God acts a bit paranoid (there is nothing the sons of man cannot accomplish), not to mention unnecessarily interferes in human affairs (the whole universal sovereignty issue...)

the current governing body has become a liability for the watchtower society.

they no longer qualify to serve based on the standards that they impose on others.

they have blatantly broken the law in australia.

The problem is this, nature abhors a vacuum. Who would take over? Another JW True Believer? If so, then nothing will change. -00DAD

I think that would be the case. The whole FDS shenanigans would continue. They've already passed the power before. They have the loyal, faithful adherents.

You underestimate the power religion and belief holds over people.

It would be like removing Castro from Cuba. Communism (at least their version of it) is so deeply entrenched, nothing's gonna change.

No kitty. I, having left (not joined any other religion, thank God), am still having some trouble adjusting.

But, as with most experiences, it really is a question of time. Investigate, investigate (the WT past).

Get Crisis of Conscience as soon as you can.

In fact, those phobias about dying at Armaggedon have largely ceased. I don't really feel guilty about small stuff anymore. I remember how guilty I would feel for not going to FS, or not being happy about going to FS. How I was supposed to be a 'role-model' for the congregation.

I've come to realise that God could not possibly want to put that pressure on you. It was all fabricated in my own mind. The feelings of low self-esteem have beginning to be lifted, but it is a long journey I suppose.

I wish you the best on your journey to self-discovery. Give your self time. If you seek to join a religion now, you may be yet in a vulnerable position and get sucked in. Or, you could probably look around and see it's all basically the same crap.

Why do you need religion anyways?

so i was reading ahead in the bookstudy book "bearing thorough witness" about god's kingdom, and i came upon some shockingly direct damage control on behalf of the gb in the material for the upcoming weeks.. on page 104: what a privilege it is to be instructed and molded by our patient and kind heavenly father!

the results are always good and always to our advantage.

so let us never proudly push ahead with our own ideas or react negatively to organizational changes or to adjusted explanations of certain scriptures.

The book is called "Bearing Thorough Witness" About God's Kingdom. It's loosely (very loosely) based on Acts. And yeah, the book certainly glorifies the GB above any of the other publications so far.

The Sabbath breaking truly is a victimless crime. The only reason they (Hebrews) accepted it was because Yahweh told them so (there is nothing inherrently moral about the Sabbath, unless you count unquestioning obedience to God as morality).
