Blondie -- your reviews will probably let me know which topic is likely to be worked into the conversation. I got a call this weekend on the need to be humble. Coincidence? (Now I'm wondering how often the convo lines up with the week's WT study...)

WAS YOUR JW HOME DYSFUNCTIONAL?
by stillAwitness insome days are just worse than others: my mother screamed at me for like 10 minutes because i was running late for the bookstudy!
i don't even wanna go to these things!
and ever since that damn km that came out a couple months ago telling family heads the importance of having a regular family bible study my father won't even let a week pass by without us all gathered around the living room doing a question and ansewr out of the secret to family happiness book.

My mother screamed at me for like 10 minutes because I was running late for the bookstudy!
I can relate. Sometimes i would play sick so that I could stay home and watch an old movie/musical.
It was weird/confusing and very distressing to be screamed at to get ready for meetings, and then, like flipping a switch -- ta da! we had to be in "the happiest people on earth" mode by the time we arrived at the KH/bookstudy/field service...."shiny happy people"

Mention of Jehovah's Witnesses in popular entertainment
by enderby ini don't know if this thread has been done before, but can anybody think of times that jehovah's witnesses were made mention of or joked about in music, tv, or movies?
for example, there are a couple of simpsons episodes, one were marge alludes to being so desperate for company that jehovah's witnesses ran away when she went to get them more lemonade.
another time, two jw's approach the simpsons' house and one turns to the other just before ringing the doorbell and asks "ruby, do you ever think we should get real jobs?".

What's the worst thing you ever done to another JW?
by JH inback in 1990, i brought my aunt to the district assembly at the olympic stadium in montreal.
i told her to sit with us, but she didn't want to.
she wanted to sit with a sister her age in another part of the stadium.

The worst thing...hmmm...Broke their hearts by "leaving the truth".
JH, you seem like a pretty nice fellow and you most likely have evolved quite a bit from the person you were 15 years ago -- you probably wouldn't make the same decision if faced with that situation now, hey?

Making progress
by fullofdoubtnow ini have been away for just over a week, visiting my cousins in the south west, and got back yesterday.
i was so good to be back on the board, i had a lovely break, but missed you all.
the main reason i went was to get away from derby for a while, as the cong elders have been pressuring me regarding my decision to da, trying to get me to withdraw my letter and return to the fold.

Awesome -- So glad to hear that you've been helped by JWD. Posts like yours (that show that there is life after the JWs) are also helpful and great to read too.
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

This situation sounds all too familiar. It happened to someone I am really close to -- except that the brother who was "on a fact-finding mission" (read: spying) totally made up all the supposedly bad stuff he'd been doing in order to get his target to lower his guard and admit any "wrongdoing". The spy was sent to do this by the elders in my congregation -- even after all the messed-up behavior I'd seen displayed by the elders, it still blew my mind that they actually sent out a spy to do their bidding. Sorry you're going through this, Atypical.

We always explained away all the signs, that it didn't mean US, just all those other people!
LoL..yeap -- I was taught to use 2nd Corinthians 2:17 -- you know, the one about how we are not peddlers of the word of God...

Did you ever go out in Field Service on Thanksgiving or Christmas morning
by pratt1 in.
i never had a problem with going door to door except for the holidays.. one, i felt like we were intruding on our neighbors who set aside time be with their loved ones.. two, it just made me feel more different and jealous that i was not celebrating the holidays with my family.. any thoughts?

Some of the JW kids (like me) were compelled to do it -- and no, it wasn't any fun to go up to a door only to hear a family laughing somewhere in the background (having fun) and smell the wonderful scents ( that great "Christmas tree smell" was a favorite) wafting out of the front door while I fumbled with the magazines and gave my clumsy presentation.
