I share your ambivalence CoCo . . . strangely for me it has become a place of rest.
Endless ponderings are the fare of the thinking man where logic and sound reasoning finds it's true home . . . absolutes are food for fools

Debate This
by Farkel ini wrote this in december last year.
i won't be writing much more, but i do think this topic needs some debate.. it never received any when posted.

Loz . . .
I was already well educated when I went into it ...which makes me feel more stupid...
Yeah me too . . . I did part of a science degree majoring in Earth Sciences prior to indoctrination . . . I got no excuse.
I think the "intellectual" part of my brain shut down while the "spiritual" neurons had their way. I always suspected it was still there but happily boarded the crazy train anyway.
Fortunately it was still there on my exit . . . albeit covered in dust . . . all it said to me was . . . . idiot!

Nice piece of music CoC . . . I enjoyed it with my cup of tea.
Re-reading the soliloquy as the music played . . . I could hear Richard Burtons voice.
So . . . definitely no "brave new world" then? . . . I am XJW after all

Bible joke in the 7/15/11 WT (for nonChristians)
by SweetBabyCheezits inthe watchtower ?

10 pauls warning about false stories is part of his first letter to timothy, a christian overseer who was charged with preserving the purity of the congregation and helping fellow believers to remain faithful.

Great post SBC . . . I think it's joke for Christians / Non-Christians alike.
I am yet to meet a "Christian" (outside of JW Land) who honestly believes that Adam and Eve really are the 6000 year old progenitors of the human race. Or, that the world was once entirely covered in water with a little wooden boat floating on it . . . from which all current life alighted.
Most acknowledge it is allegorical . . . but has some moral purpose. JW's on the other hand, are adamant it is "historical fact" (!)
But of course . . . I haven't met every "Christian" . . . no doubt there are plenty of other crazies out there

Hey Standfirm: OH No, are you related to djeggnopg? Just kidding.
The posting style is giving me a strong sense of Deja Vous . . .

The list of contributors to my healing is long, but most notably include those mentioned in the OP . . . none more than Ray Franz and Randy . . . but there are others who have also been mentioned who have been just as important . . . fellow posters who have only been here a short while, like me, have been just as important too . . . so open and encouraging.
Having the privilege of welcoming new ones and offering whatever I have to offer has been very healing. Their stories have inspired me also. We can even include in that respect those that will join us in the days to come . . . who knows what great things they will go on to achieve with their new found freedom.
To all of you . . . Thanks

Today's WT Study Stupidity About Df'ing
by metatron inin today's watchtower study, towards the end, you had one of those typical comments by a former df'ed witness expressing appreciation for being shunned.
these comments always remind me of a stalinist show trial in which the accused enthusiastically accepts being executed for the greater good (probably to save his family).. after this kind of nonsense is expressed, you will get a flurry of self righteous comments emphasizing how important it is to shun your disfellowshipped relatives, so that they can come back in the "truth".. oh, really?
do any of these people raising their hand realize that, if the "success" of disfellowshipping depends on your shunning, then the "repentant" person is "coming back in the truth" for the sake of their relatives -and not because of fearing jehovah !!!???.

Picking up on your point CoC . . . .
I find it interesting that DFing is a punishment for a crime committed by an unrepentant person. People in the real world are also punished for crimes.
But isn't it weird, that even as imperfect as "worldly" people are, they are still willing to offer their help to a convict?
In one particular congregation I 'served' in there was a Corrections Facility . . .
I was the brother assigned to care for any requests for a Bible Study from the prison. At one time for many months I was conducting 8 seperate studies. They included three men doing life for murder, two child molesters and a young man who had burned his JW parents shop to the ground. Two were disfellowshipped.
At about this time I attended a Circuit Assy where I met an old friend and his wife. After a few minutes of conversation I noticed he was looking nervously in one particular direction. He then confessed he was DF'd and that we shouldn't be talking. I replied . . . "Well I'm not worried about it if your not"
We soon broke off the conversation as I realised it was more detrimental for him than for me. But considering I spent well over 30 hrs a month teaching real "criminals" the troof, it just made no sense to me. Nothing was ever said to me either, in spite of the fact we were in plain view.
A good proportion of my studies were simply currying favour with JW relatives to get visits . . . others simply wanting to establish a good record of activity for parole purposes.
Like I said . . . it just makes no sense!
