Because most Catholics are ignorant of what the bible says. They just follow the catholic beliefs. That is why it is easy to convert them. The JW shows them some scriptures (out of context) but they don't know any different. If you don't know anything about something it is easy for someone to fill you with wrong information because you don't know any different.

While doing some research for a talk, I stumbled upon the web site 607vs587BCE. I had always been very careful about not going on Apostate sites. This web site blew me away. I couldn't believe all the research that guy did and that gave me the courage to look at a few other web sites and then I ordered CofC and it was all over. I am very fortunate that my husband and two kids came out shortly thereafter.

Disfellowshipping
by larc ini have read many stories here about those who have been disfellowshiped.
they express the pain of the experience, and the emotional trauma they experience.
i have to ask a question.

I did shun people when I was a witness, but it always bothered me. I am not df'd but I am still shunned. I haven't done anything wrong, I just stopped attending meetings, when asked why I explained that I had some questions about certain teachings, when I was questioned by two elders who came by to ENCOURAGE me I turned the tables and asked them questions and they didn't have answers, they left and said they would get back to me. They got back to me alright with a letter inviting me to a judicial commitee for apostacy. I got back with them and said I've done nothing wrong and they better not announce anything or I'd sue them, they haven't announced anything but they spread rumors throughout the entire congregation. I am not hurt by shunning, it just pisses me off. The people who are shunning me don't even know why they are shunning me, all they know is whatever the rumors that they've heard.

Did Being A Witness Screw You Up THAT Much???
by minimus in.
a number of people feel that basically, not only was their life stolen from them because they were witnesses, but because of their being at one time jw's, they are screwed for the rest of their lives.
are you in that category?

I wouldn't say it screwed up my life. I did make choices like not going to college because of it. I'm 39 now, not too late to go back to school but at this point in my life I have a job and can't afford to quit and go back to school. I hope it's not too late for my kids. It did have a negative impact on my husband's life. Especially as far as education goes. He is a Truck Driver and he hates it but he isn't educated enough to do much of anything else we have bills so he can't go back to school. On the other hand I hope my experience can help others who want to leave to get out and possibly prevent people from getting sucked in.

Welcome whatever! You will find a lot of interesting information here, some useful, some funny , and some just plain silly. Think of this as a new adventure in your life and remember you can't change your past, you can only move on from here and mold your future. I try to keep that in mind. My heart aches for you when you describe your childhood because I have two children 18 and 14 and we just left over the last year and a half and I see my children struggling with what you have described. It troubles me so much when I know I did this to them. I thought I was doing the right thing and it just kills me to know I've probably scarred them with the way I brought them up. My 14 year old still tries to be different in school by doing weird things with her hair it's almost like she just doesn't feel comfortable being normal. I'm working with her.

Do You Feel That You Were Brainwashed Into Becoming A JW?
by minimus inmany comments are made that jw's are actually brainwashed.
do you think this is true?
-

I don't like the term brainwashed or cult. This conjures up visions of mass suicides or Patty Hearst robbing a bank. But what is the difference really. Was I brainwashed? Now that I look back and reflect upon how I thought, what I said, how I acted. Most definitely yes. When I was totally in it around 7 or 8 years ago if one of my children needed a blood transfusion to live I would have let them die. This is ludicrous! I love my kids more than anything. If a man got up on a podium and announced that a good friend of mine was disfellowshipped I would not talk to her anymore. I did that. Because they had convinced me that I was doing the right thing. Now, how does a person who knows right from wrong act in this way. It has to be Brainwashing or if you want to call it mind-control same difference you are not thinking for yourself someone else is telling you what to do and what to think you are a puppet.

OK so let me get this straight. Someone tells you about a child being abused and the first thing you should do is call the society! What is wrong with this picture. Where is there concern for the child? How is the society going to help anyone. They are not qualified to help anyone. All they want to do is CYA. If someone told me about a child being abused the first thing I'm gonna do is call the cops. So we can get this person arrested. If it is my kid someone better stop me before I castrate the person who abused my child and that is before I kill them. Then I'll plead temporary insane because I would be at that moment. I'm sorry but the last person on my list to call would be the Watchtower Society.

I'm writing a book and I need your input. I'm trying to determin if more people are born into the BORG or are converted. And if they are converted what religion they were before they became a Witness.
So please answer these questions.
1. Were you raised a witness?
If no
2. What religion if any were your before you became a witness?
3. Did you know the person that taught studied with you? Family member or Friend.
4. Were you a initially contacted by the door to door ministry? If not what other means.
5. Were you df'd before you started questioning the BORG?
6. What was the big thing that made you take the first step into questioning the Borg and start you on your way out?
Thank you for helping me in this respect. I really appreciate it.
