  i'm not a jw, never have been, and in no danger of becoming one.. having read several of the wt mags and publications (and many more extracts on this and other sites) they come across to me as being very patronising in tone and full of pseudo-scholarship, misquoted (or unnamed) sources, references taken out of context, mis-translations, etc.

  i'm aware of jw 'teaching' on the subject of higher education for its members (i.e.

  not a good or necessary thing) so i can understand why many jws raised in it may not challenge the publications.

  This is a very interesting thought. Most JW's have been taught to avoid the higher education route, and stay focused on the "truth" and the preaching work. In recnet years the WTBTS has changed their position somewhat and does allow college, since may witnesses couldn't even get work oin some ares of the country/world without some degree.

  There is Dr Riggles, in Houston I believe. He was the open heart surgeon that did bloodless work in the beginning. There has a couple of Dentists that I have met over the years.

  But don't confuse education with intelligence....it is same as assuming a rich man is smart. Money and intelligence has no connection for the most part.

  Door to Door

  just wondering... what do you think about the jw going door to door?

  do you like it or dislike it?

  my view is ( weather something is false or not) i think it is great someone shares what they love with someone else.

  By todays standards...it is a rather crude way of marketing something.....

  It also puts the faithfull in harms way....

  Have you ever been to a door and home owner siced their dog on you are threaten you with bodily harm?

  The millions that are stashed away could be used to have Radio / TV etc....

  WTBTS would rather store their riches in the stock market than use them in a sensible method of promotion...

  Show on Scientology

  does anyone listen to phil gowan on talk 650?

  he had a scientologist on yesterday and an ex-witness called in - that was interesting.

  it was a good show - i think he is still getting emails on it.

  I answered an ad on late night TV a few years ago and it was the scientology group. They sent me tapes and books and tried to recruit me.

  They have a strange approach to wellness. L Ron believed that he has regressed back to his birth during many hypnotic episodes. They call it becoming clear....

  New blood related cure for Cancer? Would u take it?

  i heard on radio that a new cure for cancer is coming but it is taken from the white blood cells.... .

  this might move th wtbts to change its position?

  Pallbearers, Are JW's allowed to be pallbearers

  i once heard that we were not allowed to be pallbearers, but i can't find anything in the wt.

  any idea's?

  My Mom won't to the family re-union because it is held in the church building used for their recreational purposes. She said a recent Watchtower article stated that you should not to enter?

  You can't be a pallbearer without entering the church, can you?
