BBQ Update
by LittleToe inwell, i finally got home, after a round trip of about 1600 miles, visiting 28 ex-jw's and their families, from around britain.
the highlight of the trip was definitely englishman's bbq .
the spider-filled digeridoo, was a real bonus, as was the sing-alonga-eman (shame that not everyone knew "wild rover" .

The Bristol assembly hall scandel
by sleepy inis there anyone from the area who remmbers the story of the 30,000 spent on trees for the vist of a gb memmber.. i dont know the exact story as it is now about 7 or 8 years ago but i heard it from several people that worked on the hall.. apparently a gb memmber was to come to britian to dedicate the hall (i cant remmember which one).. the brothers in charge wanted the hall to look nice for his vist.but the land around was yet to be landscaped.. so brothers enquired as to the viability of planting some trees but were informed that it was the wrong time of year and they would die.. the cost of the trees was around the region of 30,000.plus the amount of free labour from the brothers in planting them.. anyway the big bosses of the scheme decided to ignore the professional advice and planted them anyway.. they all died.. 30.000 pounds of money from old ladies, pioneers and little children as well as ordinary publishers went down the drain for the gb's visit.. nice to know they used our money wisely.

It took me a while to come out of my shell Ang, I was a bit disorientated - it's what comes with being indoctrinated.
Simon, you have mail - I want you to edit a post, you'll laugh when you find out why!

I'm up for a north-west one Simon, I hope us southern shandy-drinking namby pambies can join in the fun!
By the way when Termite above said "...said the tall, dark, handsome man!", she was definitely referring to ISP, not me, I just nipped in before she sent the post! I'm just one of those three, i.e. tall!

I wish I had Chris Evan's money, and hence his pulling power! You can't seriously think that Billie Piper would have married him if he wasn't a millionaire?!

Hey LittleToe, like your new Avatar, looking thoughtful! It was a real pleasure meeting you, I think that a lot of us were a bit "We're not worthy!!!" with you, I hope you can excuse my sycophancy. You were a lot more chilled out than I imagined from your posts, you have that kind of tranquil demeanour that doesn't tally with all the stress you've been through, I found Jst2Laws like this as well - I could really do with a bit of that!
So I'm exactly how you imagined me from my posting style? Oh, dear. Unfortunately I'm quite well known, and so this will mean that I'm in danger of getting rumbled soon by a lurking JW spy.

WHY ARE OUR K.H's UGLY?
by plmkrzy indon't know how many here are from southern california.
some of the areas here are sectioned off like a canadian pizza (the few that i've seen cut into small squares).
it's because we have so many cities that are sooo conjested they have to build a ton of kh's in order to compensate.. i was just wondering how many besides me have noticed how much nicer the kh's (asuming they all look like this) are in the east in comparison tp the west?.

Up until the 70's Kingdom halls were definitely low priority. In the UK, most congregations met in rented halls. If the congregation had a hall, it would be a cheap scruffy little scout-hut type. After all what's the point in spending so much money for a hall when Armageddon was just around the corner - money should be spent on the preaching work!
Things seriously changed in the 80's with the advent of the Quick Builds! The society suddenly saw Kingdom Halls as a marketing tool, not just for the people outside, but for the people in the congregation too. Most halls built since the 80's are tidy and functional, not particularly ugly, but not architectural masterpieces either. Where I live these halls, although not wonderful to look at, are usually very well maintained compared to surrounding buildings. This is mainly because they are usually situated in the more cheaper and run down parts of town.
It would be an awfully dull world if there were nothing but these boxes everywhere!

Kat! Me too. My first ever profile pic was animated, but the uploading process killed it off, a bit like when you open an animated gif in photoshop or paint shop pro and save it by accident. Because of that I had to pick another one.

If this is true then it's clearly another example of how a person can be very vulnerable to the witnesses when they are going through personal problems.
Some of the older members of the board may remember when Peter Knowles, another famous footballer, gave up a promising career to become a pioneer. This news coincided with the international assembly at Wembley in 1969, and was a valuable propaganda tool for the society. I hope we don't get a similar situation with Tony Adams!
