Burning Bridges--a Bad, bad habit.
by LDH inone of the most important lesson an xjw needs to learn is how not to burn bridges.. what exactly does it mean to "burn a bridge" in the first place?.
well, consider if you crossed a wide chasm suspended on a rope bridge and decided you would never need to go back.
why not burn it?

Cheers twain30.
(Duck, Watchtower-style lingo coming!)
I think in these circumstances balance and a little forethought is the key!

That's very true twain30 ! Although one of the reasons that I have had a relatively peaceful dub life so far is that I avoid confrontation at all costs. Other members of my family are the total opposite of me, when they consider that right is on their side, they will say exactly what they think, and will fight for it. The struggle for personal justice is always clear in their minds.
My attitude has meant that I haven't made too many enemies so far and am known as an easy going person. But the Watchtower now says that being easy going is wrong! But you can see my problem though can't you? This attitude is both dub and exdub-incompatible. There will come a time soon when there will be plenty of confrontation in my life, and I'm ill-equipped to handle it.

The look in the eyes
by ozziepost inlast week we enjoyed a thread where many discussed the pros and cons of dubdom and comments have been made that exjws can be overtaken with negativity, and that this board displays far too much malice towards the r&f.
a view is held that the r&f are really nice people and they are innocent of sins committed by the borg.
the argument goes that individuals, whether on the gb or publishers in a local congregation, are all victims of some organisational spirit.

"If it was up to us, we'd stone you!"
That sounds remarkably like the sort of thing my dad says when he is in one of his "righteous indignation" "Daily Mail Reader" moods. It's true that many are like this, but this pious arrogant attitude I frequently saw in my father always left me very cold, even when I was a loyal and stalwart dub.
When I was a child my dad used to point out what treatment naughty kids got in the nation of Israel, and so six-of-the-best seemed quite lenient to me!

JW says the real truth
by kenpodragon ini loved this one movie with jim carry called "liar liar" and i always wished i could make the witnesses tell the truth in field service, just for one day.
think about it, it would sound something like this.
<knocking> .

That's an absolute classic kenpodragon!
It's crazy how we all sugar-coated the "good news of the kingdom" not to scare people off isn't it?

If You Didn"t PREACH, YOU were BLOODGUILTY
by minimus inpreaching, to a witness is the most important assignment that god gives.as a matter of fact, if you don't preach you are bloodguilty before god.if you don't cover the territory properly, you are bloodguilty.
if you didn't keep proper records, you were bloodguilty.if you didn't do not-at-homes, you were bloodguilty.if you didn't return to talk to a return visit within the week, you were bloodguilty.
obviously, we could never reach all persons with the "truth".

On the flipside of the coin...
For the fact that I still preach, knowing what I say to householders is nothing short of poison and that I'm only actually saying what I say simply to impress the person that is with me on the door, well, that's true guilt, something I should really be guilty about. And boy, do I feel guilty.

Dub Memories, Part 4
by SYN indub memories part 4
at the end of the last part, my parents had just arrived back from the tuesday night meeting after the theocratic ministry school with the elders.
its quite amazing that i still remember the names of all the various meetings so clearly, considering that im writing this 4 years after my disassociation.

Oh, lord, SYN! There was so much in your post that I recognised! I know all about those unwritten rules! Over here they vary from congregation to congregation, depending on the beliefs of the local Elders and whether they take a softly-softly or hard-line approach. Anyway, people pick and choose which congregation they go to, not because they live in the territory, but generally they choose depending on whether they get on with the local body of Elders or not!
Thinking of what you said, I wonder if the gender roles were reversed, what kind of religion the Witnesses would be! If the older sisters were elders instead I think the paedophile debacle simply wouldn't have happened.
Oh, and those get-togethers. Yes, they are always geared for children here as well. I've spent a lifetime being treated like a child, I guess it's time to grow up!
Many thanks SYN, utterly brilliant post as usual.
