etc they have a lot of meaning to christians yet all i truly remember is jesus being ark angel, the messiah, undeserve kindness, greek and roman scripture, etc.. .

i'm just curious as to whether any of my fellow brits ever pondered how the society can be so stupid as to insist using the us drama tapes at uk conventions rather than having them re-recorded in a british accent?.
as all of us brits know, the convention drama is a subject of subdued derision among uk publishers - and i've been to many a party or social gathering where, at some point, somebody whose had a little too much coke re-enacts a scene from a drama mockingly (typically by gesturing wildly into the air and saying "jer-ho-vah gaaard!!
" in an over-the-top american accent).. what the society clearly doesn't understand is that the dramas really lose their emotional impact with british audiences when performed in an american accent by amateurs.
the Governing Body insists on having us read what they read, and listen to what they listen to. It is the height of ignorance IMO.

Admittedly my experience is limited, Cedars, but I couldn't agree with you more.
Just as, given the gusto with which they advertise their publication of Bibles and literature in all manner of languages under the sun, it never fails to irk me that they insist on using American spelling and American lingo.
One of the ones that annoys me most is "in behalf of". Whoever heard anyone over here do anything "in behalf of" someone? What's the matter with good old-fashioned "on"?
The same goes for their inability to spell "practice" correctly when it is a noun. Whole generations of deprived British JW's must grow up even less able to spell properly than their non-JW counterparts.
Or is it the GB just cocking a snook at education?
Edit: I immediately spotted my own mistake. I used "lingo". American slang. OK, call it "American vocabulary".

The chief elderette I have in mind locally makes much play of being submissive to her elder husband, in true obedient-to-Jehovah style, but in fact her husband wouldn't dare step out of line or fail to tell her directly or indirectly exactly who does what.
There's another character in the Elderette tribe. She's probably in many congregations. This one is a Wannabe elderette. She is specially friendly with all the elderettes, but very resentful of the Elderette in chief, and it even shows. Elderette in chief doesn't really notice her except in association time at meetings when in small doses she bestows a carefully measured hug, kiss and beaming smile. Hubby is a ministerial servant, and has been for a while now. He's a bit of a weakling, struggles with public speaking, and comes over as friendly and nice, although he turnns into a bully when dealing with those he considers beneath him. His wife, though, pushes him and pushes him, while carefully being sure to tell everyone that it's husband who makes all the decisions and husband who is in charge of everything. No-one is fooled.
it's been nearly 5 years since the letter was read at the end of the service meeting.
the society would lovingly decrease the public talk to a brief 30 minutes, eliminating the 15-minute doom-and-gloom introduction and thereby resulting in lower heating and air-conditioning costs allowing for more "association" after the meeting.... for those who still go to meetings... do you find that there is any more association with the 30-min public talk when compared to the former 45-min public talk?.

There are many extraordinary things about JW meetings. One of them is how they love association. And how they come to call "talking to other people" "association" in the first place.
They tell newcomers and visitors how unfriendly the churches and chapels are because people don't talk to each other. They reproach those who don't go round trying to talk to every single person.
They completely fail to realise that when people go to church they go to pray, worship, and then go home. Talking to other people happens afterwards but it isn't in any way a functional part of the gathering.
Another extraordinary thng about JW meetings is how little prayer or worship there actually is. There is no silent prayer. No-one sits in their chairs praying. No-one prays when they arrive. They talk and talk and bustle around and talk. Then there's the public talk and the Watchtower indoctrination session, complete with brothers and sisters vying with each other to make "comments" to prove they've prepared, peeping at each others' Watchtowers to see if you've written and underlined more than they have, and answering questions that any reasonably bright 7 year old could answer.
I have struggled to find any element of worship in these meetings, and yet repeatedly they call this "the kind of worship Jehovah prefers".
Extraordinary.
