I was so indoctrinated, that by the time I was 2, I walked into my grandparents' house (non-JWs all their lives), saw their Christmas tree, and said, "Christmas is bad. You're going to die." They have never forgiven my parents for that. They're definitely grateful I'm out.

Thinking of becoming a JW - Need urgent honest advice!!!
by natalienu ini have met a wonderful man but unfortunately he is a jw.
i have never been interested or really ever been around any religion in my life so all of this right now is very fascinating to me.
i have been thinking of studying to become one but am also having a hard time finding anything on the net that is positive about it.

My honest opinion:
Don't do it. You would eventually regret it, and it would cause relationship problems. I can't tell from your post if he is interested in you or not. But if he really loved you, he would accept you for who you are, and not expect you to conform to his religious beliefs to be "worthy" of him. In my opinion, you would chafe under JW rules, and it would become a source of contention between you.
I've been married twice. Once to a JW, and once to a "worldly" person. My marriage to the JW ended after 1 year. It was horrible. I am a strong, independent woman, and I know now that I could never follow the JW rules for wives.
My marriage to my athiest husband is wonderful! He respects me for who I am, appreciates my intelligence, listens to my opinions, and we work together as a real team. We have never had a serious argument, only differences of opinions. He truly loves me and accepts me for who I am. He would never try to change me.
Don't do it. You will regret it.
And yes, JWs are a cult. Take it from someone who escaped.

Lovely pic.
I did the whole worldly boy/JW girl thing a couple of times. I was so lonely; only wanted to be accepted and cared for like everyone around me. I was discovered both times, and guilt, guilt, guilt, drove me back. Part of me wishes I could apologise to those guys; one was fairly upset about it.

Meeting JW grandparents for dinner - what to expect?
by acadiel ini guess this is more of a "what do i expect when" type question.. my mother left the jw's when i was a child and was subsequently disfellowshipped.
i'm 28 and only remember seeing my maternal grandparents once in my life - at a cousin's graduation (who was still jw at the time.
anyways, since my mother's parents (and all my other relatives) are over 950 miles away, when we were there last, i stopped in at their address and visited.

If you want to keep things smooth between you, personally I'd avoid the subject of religion altogether.

3 Jehovah's Witnesses Found Murdered
by Kenneson inin orange city, volusia county florida, 3 members of the negron family were found murdered in their home in a quiet neighborhood, unknown for any violence.
they were active jws, even hosting meetings in their home.
the witness community is in disbelief.. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/ .

How sad.
This is so sad for the family involved. The non-JW's quoted commented on the human tragedy that occurred. Gabriel Torres (the JW) just had to take advantage of this tragedy to give a "witness" (all we do is serve Jehovah).
I was thinking the exact same thing.

My sister told me she and the elders think that I am mentally ill.
Lovely. Glad she has such a loving, caring attitude.
I tried to remind my sister of all the good times. I got emotionally blackmailed for my trouble. 'If you'd come back, we could be friends again.' That sort of thing.

Where is Jesus' golden rule operating here? Why is it okay to throw out so called christian values when dealing people who have rejected WT teachings? They only have to act like christians when it's convenient for them?
That's pretty much what I said to her. No response, naturally.

10. Dart around the store suspiciously while loudly humming the theme from "Mission Impossible."
I have actually done that before. It was hilarious! Good fun.
