Baptismal date, do you remember?
by Jourles inyesterday was my 15th year anniversary of being baptized.
may 11, 1991. i'm not sure it counts anymore since i was df'd last feb. 3, 2005, but still, it is a remarkable period of time to pass by and reflect on what changes have occurred.. i was 18 years old.
the "internet" was barely a blip.

11 July 1987 (I had to look up the day.) I was 13. One of the dumbest things I ever did. Of course, at the time, I was so brainwashed, I was desperate to get baptised. All my friends were getting baptised, and I knew it would make my parents happy. I cried when they told me I needed to wait earlier that year. LOL! What an idiot.

When my father admitted to sexually abusing me, and was told he could remain an elder, I had enough. I moved from Ohio to Hong Kong. LOL!
It was a huge culture shock for me, but it was definitely worth it. I got to travel all around the world, live in various countries, and really LIVE life. I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.
I decided back then that I would live life with the motto, "No regrets." If a decision had to be made about something, I would think, "In 5 years, will I be saying, 'I wish I had...' if I don't do this?" Now my only regret is that my eyes weren't opened earlier. -

Scared of what will happen..
by theredhead ineven though i have been reasured that they are both very common, i am still scared.
i am having a laparoscopy and a leep.
the leep is to remove cervical cancer, and the lap is to look at my repoductive organs and all the stuff.

I've had a lap several times. For me, the worst part was that anesthesia makes me nauseated.
They will tell you that you can't lift that much weight, though. You are going to have to have someone at work help you, if at all possible. I lifted about 30-40 pounds once after one of my surgeries, and I definitely felt it.
I had several major operations, including a complete hysterectomy. The best thing is to get up and walk around as soon as you possibly can. I was up the same day, walking the corridors of the hospital. When you do walk, don't hunch over, even if it hurts. My doctor told me it is best to walk and stand straight, so that your body heals properly, with all the scar tissue you'll have inside.
Good luck!
Oh, and I was 26 when I had my hysterectomy, and I learned that many young women have similar problems. You will feel so much better afterwards. :) -

Would you change the way you left if you could?
by Gadget inif you were put in a similar position to when you left the jws, would you choose to leave in a particular way because of your experiences?
if you had nothing to loose from family etc, would you be tempted to leave with a bang, or to get some sort of revenge on those who shun you?

I would have done everything the same, except I wouldn't have let the elders into my home. I would have pretended I wasn't there, or in the shower or something. By letting them in and confirming what my stalking ex-husband told them, I ended up DF'd. So my sister and brother shun me. (Couldn't care less if my parents ever talk to me again.) I only would have gotten a few more months of contact with my siblings, because I ended up living with my now-husband. I suppose I could have hidden that too, but once we got married, it was pointless. I 'didn't have scriptural reasons for divorce,' so I eventually would have been DF'd anyway. But at least I would have had a little more time with my sister, and maybe would have been able to plant some seeds.

Your Advice Needed! What Appears Like My Only Way Out....
by drew sagan inwell gang, let me tell you a little bit about what is going on in my world.
for about the past 2 years i've gone through all the formations and as many of you have known from reading my posts i've pretty much have moved way beyond the watchtower in my mind many months ago.
coming to this board has helped with the process much, as well as getting my hands on alot of good reading material.

Personally, I don't think it will help. I think it would give her false hope, and in a way, you'd be messing with her feelings. Although you'd be doing it for her own good, she might not see it that way if she ever finds out that it was all a plan.
Do you know of any in your area who have experienced abuse at the hands of a JW, only to have it covered up? Is there any way that someone like that could talk to your wife? -

Your greatest turn of luck
by greendawn inwhat was your greatest turn of luck in life, finding a treasure or winning the lotterry, a great spouse, a good teacher or something else?
for me it was investing in a flat that saw a big increase in its value in two years.

Someone bought me a small fish tank once. I had no idea how to take care of tropical fish, and I didn't know anyone who kept fish. So I *gasp* disobeyed the Society's warnings about the Internet, and went online for the first time in 2000, to learn how to care for fish.
If it hadn't been for that little fish tank, I wouldn't be where I am today: remarried to a wonderful man, living in England, associating with long-lost DF'd relatives, and freed from the Borg. -

Why do the British dubs have such an animosity to Harry Potter?!
by CaptainSchmideo inif i have ever mentioned that i've seen the movies or read the books to a witness in gb, i get the kind of reaction that used to be reserved for smurfs here in america.. i am not naive enough to not understand any discomfort with a school for witches, but this stuff is about as threatening as casper the friendly ghost.
i find the books charming, if a little long winded and formulaic.
the movies, especially the later two, tighten up the plots and jettison a lot of excess baggage.

My father wouldn't let us watch Cinderella. You can imagine what he must think of Harry Potter.
