Interestingly, their rates are tracking the same path as the countries who have taken more extreme measures.

this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

As for Trump? I did catch the bit of him talk about injecting bleach and blasting UV rays through the body, then him claiming it was sarcasm the next day. He’s not exactly making it easy for his defenders, is he?

Just a point to ponder...any of us who are on city water are drinking and bathing in small amounts of bleach everyday. Bleach is not the issue. It s selling papers and driving people to the headlines that is the issue.

Kids Without Rules

i see a lot of kids that rarely get discipline.

they are allowed to do whatever they want and if someone says something to them they don’t want to hear, they blow them off, ignore them or engage in disrespectful talk.. what’s wrong with today’s parents??

they are producing a generation of entitled brats!.

I think one problem is that young people don't have to work anymore.

By young people, I mean every child out of diapers.

In a poor economic environment children work too - not just adults- out of necessity.

In a long ago world when people lived a more agrarian life, children had to help with laundry, feed livestock, hoe gardens, hunt, fish etc. They also had to take care of younger children and discipline them (thus reinforcing their own discipline and family standards).

In our more cultured world today children are in daycare, then pre K, then school (all peer-based influence or lateral learning excepting the teachers). Their parents are working jobs and everyone arrives home hungry and tired, not the best environment to pass on values and ideals (which forms the base for all balanced discipline).

It's just too easy to let them settle in front of electronic devices and social media while exhausted parents try to fix dinner, do laundry and prepare to get up and do it all over again.

The combination of no meaningful or important responsibilities, no vigorous physical activity combined with the negative impact of sitting and staring at a screen is not really a set up to help grow disciplined or balanced young people.

JW patient with covid-19 received blood transfusion

i had a patient admitted from a skilled nursing facility/rehab that is an active jw.

the patient had covid-19 as did most of the patients at that facility.

typically the local elders are all involved in these admissions but there is a strict no visitor policy which includes clergy.

Thank you for sharing this experience.

I would think these times would take some pressure off JWs who don't want the hospital committee there in the first place but are hesitant to say so.

So if the price they were able to command for those valuable NYC properties had been very low because of a weak real estate market, would they still have sold at a slim profit margin or waited for a good market?

If they hadnt sold and instead were holding property and waiting for the market to rise and the Covid virus had hit, what would they say then?

I guess my point is they sold because they needed money and they had a valuable real estate portfolio. period.

G.B of JW`s trusting in Jehovah ? or Trusting in Men When It Comes To A Crunch !

jehovah`s witnesses have taken it upon themselves that they have been chosen by god to be his witnesses in what they believe to be the last days ,the time of the end spoken of by the prophets of old.. they are on record as stating in their publications that it is their calling and duty to preach this message of announcing jehovah`s kingdom loud and clear publicly and from house to house even when under ban.. which they have done on many occasions in the past putting their trust in jehovah .. taking to heart acts ch.5 : 17- 32 which states in a nutshell ," we must obey god as ruler rather than men " .

they are also on record that the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one satan the devil to mislead all mankind.. this includes all governments ,religious leaders ,economic, and social systems ,they have even stated that the united nations was a counterfeit kingdom in opposition to the kingdom of god for the benefit of mankind.. so what do we see today ?

true , we have a pandemic with this covid-19 virus that is wreaking havoc in the worlds health systems causing death to many people on a scale not seen since the spanish flu pandemic a century ago.. now i`m just speaking from a jehovah`s witness mindset here,to put there money where their mouth is.

They really don't have a choice this time.

Even if their "faith" (misguided or not) led them to carry on and minister to others at a time like this, authorities be damned as they answer a higher calling........

they cant.

Why?

Because they are under so much scrutiny for child abuse cases that they just can't afford the publicity. They cant defy anything else right now because they are guilty of that one big thing already.

Another reason might be now that org has commandeered ownership of all the Kingdom Halls, there could be liability issues if someone traced a covid outbreak to that as a source. They don't want to be stuck paying for anyone's long term care.

It's similar to how they won't let the K H s be used for hurricane or tornado shelters - although some states are now regulating that as well.

My ExElder Best Friend Has Coronavirus

this has been a horrible month.

my best friend’s wife just called to tell me that my friend had to be hospitalized due to severe coronavirus complications.

he has severe pneumonia, is put on a ventilator and is in a coma .

They are missing a tremendous chance at goodwill here.

They should offer assembly halls as places for the National Gaurd or nurses to stay who are visiting to help in NYC.

Or let them be used as hospitals - the same as you know, the churches are doing????

Curious to know the Zoom attendance figures for for the memorial

i’m just curious to know the local attendance figures for the memorial.

my father told me they had an attendance of 140. not flattering for a cong of 100 pubs.

i was sort of surprised at this considering the quarantine measures and everyone being forced to stay at home.

They are covered either way. If its low they can say it was the unusual circumstances and then theorize about the "true" number. They will provide lots of anecdotal unprovable "experiences" sent in by publishers to back up their non-existant proof.

That will be good enough for most.
