If G-d would send lightning bolts to destroy criminals before they destroyed someone else, if he would cure all of the terminally ill, if he would give all humans an acceptance gene which would make them care about others who are different instead of hating them - these manifestations would restore my faith. The other stuff can be done by David Copperfield.

Wouldn't it just makes sense for GOD to...
by confusedandalone injust one day perform some form of miracle in front of the entire earth in which he proves he exists???.
wouldn't this be the most loving and sensible thing to do?
for instance, this coming thursday god repeatedly strikes mount kilamanjaro to the point that it reads in hebrew, "god exists, i just did this.

I'm thinking about going back
by Corboy101 ini have been out for 22 years.i was raised as a jehovahs witness.
i was baptized in 1986 but soon after left the religion.
theres a whole lot to the reasons why i left, but i left.

They have a "doctrine" that there must be two witnesses before an abused/molested child can be believed. But anything else can be "proved" by rumor and gossip, innuendo, or just being disliked by the wrong person. For example, see label licker's post about her JC.
Get real! Personally, I choose to be free and happy.
Good luck with your decision. Write down the pros and cons, then list them on this board. I'd be curious to see what you come up with.

Jehovah's Witnesses actions and behaviours
by jw04 ini was reading one of the magazines about 2 years ago, about what to know about social networking sites, the warnings and cautiousness.
i am not so sure if they don't like the internet, these days almost everyone uses internet.
i know many have accounts online.

The primary requirement of being a Jehovah's Witness is mental illness. Children reared as JW's are brought up to be mentally ill. Self-delusion is their survival mechanism.

My story so far
by brainmelt ini've been trying to avoid posting this, due to extreme paranoia but its time to post my story.
i hope to not post too many details, as we've avoided being df so far, our group elder was young and lovely and cool and i just hope that in time he learns the ttatt.. i'm a regular lurker on here, occasional poster (i can't post much as my phone browser only lets me read but not post, so i only post on the odd occasion i get a time alone on the pc).
i have been fading since round about last september ( so almost my first anniversary of learning ttatt).

Congratulations on choosing to be free!
My thoughts and best wishes for your son. Have you considered having him treated at St. Jude Hospital in Memphis? St. Jude is one charity that I support because they cure children with cancer every day. Its founder, the late Danny Thomas, has assured that no one has to pay, not even the wealthy.
Keep us posted.

A wasted life.
by Crazyguy innow that i have fully awaken from this nightmare cult, it pains me to know that i have wasted most of my life.
when i was young i was a very driven boy wanting to accomplish all sorts of things.
i smart kid and an athletic one too.

Crazyguy: Most people who pass through this world have essentially wasted lives, IMHO. How many people with brain power similar to Einstein's have spent their lives carrying water or digging in the ground with sticks just to survive another day? How many people have died young in wars, accidents, and of horrible diseases? The average life span in ancient Rome was about 27 years.
When you put things into perspective, you are one of the lucky ones. As LisaRose pointed out, at 46, you're still young enough to start over. You are probably in good health and have enough food and clothing. You may even own your own home. You're so lucky!
Set goals. Start living for today instead of lamenting the past.
I have had many failures in life, but I can't blame the Watchtower for all of them. I just pick myself up, dust myself off, and start all over again.
This moment is precious. Live in it!

I'm trying to figure out what is pictured here. Are these 3 JW guys at a convention? I can't read the badges.
If I'm not mistaken, their thumb and pinky are making the "hang loose" sign which I have never seen anyone do outside of Hawaii. Are they in Hawaii? The kukui and shell (if that's what it is) on the guy on the right might indicate that they are.
They appear to me to be doing a native pose and enjoying having their picture taken. Is there more to it?

Going to Kingdom Hall for first time
by InChristAlone insince my family is out of town, and i am alone this weekend, i have decided to attend this once to see these things for myself.
have no fear, i have absolutely no interest in joining.
my goal is simply to better understand how to reach those who are on the inside, and i feel i could better do that by observing it.

I haven't been to a KH in many years, but here's what I remember.
The music is recorded. There won't be any pipe organ emitting glorious sounds.
At the front of the hall will be a stage with a lectern on it and most likely a mural of a scene from nature, probably trees and/or flowers of some sort, no crucifis or altar.
There won't be pews, but some kind of cheap chairs to sit in.
The guy who gives the public talk may be semi-literate and mispronounce and/or not understand the meaning of some of the words he is reading from the prefab "outline," which is very detailed, and not what any of my English teachers would have considered an outline.
After the public talk is the Watchtower "study." I saw an online article that compared this session as a kind of hypnosis. One guy stands at the lectern and one guy sits in a chair off to the side. The guy at the lectern asks the paragraph-specific questions from the bottom of the page of the magazine, whereupon people in the audience raise their hands to answer. The answers are always read directly from the page unless there's a pseudo-intellectual or rebellious one answering. Then the guy in the chair stands up and reads the paragraph. This process is repeated for each paragraph until paragraphs have all been covered.
People in front of you might be pinching or otherwise abusing their children. Give them dirty looks. Offer to take the child outside or give it some kind of relief from the droning drivel.
Then you will listen to a song sung in a "barking rhythm" (as described by George Orwell in 1984) and realize these put-upon people have no musical education either.
The others have told you about the love-bombing and opportunistic "friendly" gestures. Be nice to these poor, enslaved folks, but don't pander.
Then go home and drink a pint or a fifth or whatever it takes to get over what you've just been through.
I'll be looking forward to your post about the experience.

Scary Stuff
by Farkel intoday's high school students in the usa:.
less than 1/2 of them cannot identify the century when our civil war happened.. one in four thought columbus discovered america sometime after 1750.. one in three cannot name one right enumerated in the bill of rights.. three out of four cannot name the first us president.. two out of three do not know the length of term of a member of the house of representatives.. half cannot find britain on a map.. one out of four cannot find america on a map.. when my oldest daughter, who is now a physician was in 9th grade in this once-great state of california, i asked her about the three branches of our federal government.
she was clueless and told me she would take civics in her junior year in high school.

Here's some anecdotal stuff:
I used to have a job where we hired kids from job-training programs. They could do anything on the computer, but could not answer a simple math question (such as, What's 60% of 80, or 80% of 60) without significant figuring. One kid told me the answer was 75! Geography was even worse.
I used to watch a French TV show called Télématin. They were laughing at a cartoon from a French magazine one day during the Presidential campaign between George W. Bush and Al Gore. In the cartoon, a French teenager is telling an American teenager that France are following the U.S. presidential campaign with interest. The young American replies, "France -- where is that?"
It is not the kids' fault. It's the parents'. If we don't read to our kids or encourage curiosity and love of learning, they are left only with their peers.
