Luke 23:43 (the thief on the cross) Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
All he had to do was ask Jesus. All he had to do was ask.
i have two.. luke 4.
16 he went to nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom.
he stood up to read, 17 and the scroll of the prophet isaiah was handed to him.
Luke 23:43 (the thief on the cross) Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
All he had to do was ask Jesus. All he had to do was ask.
what have you found is a productive way for you to study the bible?
do you have a group?
or a solitary preference?.
I don't hop around verse to verse. I read a book slowly, carefully, straight thru. As we should know, CONTEXT is everything.
the religion of jehovah`s witnesses is not bible based , their beleifs are not based on what the bible says.. the bible doesnt keep changing its words , it`s basically the same today as it was centuries ago.. what the jw`s taught quoting a bible scripture in years gone by is not the same thing being taught today using the same scripture and no doubt wont be the same thing taught using the same scriptures in the future.. their beleifs are based on what interpretation the governing body gives scriptures at any given time and every time they re-interpret the scriptures everybody follows suite.the writings of russell, rutherford, knorr, franz, etc bear testimony to that fact.. the bible hasn`t changed but the teachings of jehovah`s witnesses is in a constant state of change.. so at what stage is the religion of jehovah`s witnesses" the truth" ?.
if what they taught yesteryear is not what they teach today then they have never had the truth.. if what they teach today is the truth then they never had it previously.
and one thing you can be certain of what they teach today wont be what they teach in the near future.
Absolutely not. "Based" implies Bible first, beliefs second.
They come up with their own balony. ie. "No birthday parties." (because extended families are getting together and telling our victims that we're full of crap.) So then they search the scriptures for some way to excuse their non-sense.
"Doctrine" first, Bible second. Even their NWT is based on their doctrine.
if someone mentioned to you that they accepted a brochure or magazine from a witness, what would you say to them, to help them see that the witnesses do not have "the truth"??
?.
I actually said to someone, "Show me what they gave you." and then went thru word by word showing them the WT wizardry at verbal deception. It worked! The potencial recruit said, "Wow, and I was actually starting to believe all this stuff. Thanks!" They then told the JW to take a hike.
ALL WT literature is full of clever deception. Show them in the literature they just got, then show them the Steve Hassan quote, "No legitimate group should ever need to resort to deception in the recruiting process." (or something to that effect)
i'm interested to know common phrases jehovah's witnesses use, but don't actually apear in the bible (even the nwt).
especially phrases most jw's would assume are in the bible.
e.g.. "paradise earth".
"jehovah"
"Organization"
"obiesance"
"theocratic"
"No, don't let your dog out, we're leaving!"
...oh heck, the ENTIRE DOCTRINE is not found in the Bible.
let's start with bible facts.
jesus states in acts 1:8 " and you will be witnesses of me to the most distant part of the earth.".
" anyone who publicly witnesses about jehovah is usually identified as a " jehovah's witness"____reasoning book page 199. .
"Reasoning from the Scriptures" - subtitled "A JW Field Guide for Justifying WT Balony"
I've had a lot of JWs come to my house... never heard them "declare the good news about the Christ Jesus". They must have missed that part.

i thought i should introduce myself as i have been reading your various threads.
Hi Mediator 007,
I can get you some audio excerpts of Steven Hassan's book. The one that some others mentioned if you'd like.
I sent you a PM. Click on the envelope in the upper right corner. (It might take a few tries.)
Welcome!
tonight i just got my certificate: i'm officially a member of my church and a baptist.
(i think of myself as just a general christian, but i like the laid-backishness of the baptists.
i definitely don't think one denomination is better than anyone else though, and my church is multi-cultural, so i'm not a hater of other races like some southern baptists).
Congrats LilBlue!!! Good for you!
And to those who continue to try to make JWN as unpleasant as a KH, and still hold tight to the WatchTower doctrine of hating Christians, I guess you can take the boy out of the Watchtower...etc..
can you list any similarities between the borg from star trek and the organisation?.
thanks!
timmy xx.
I was going to say pasty skin and vacant look in the eyes.
Bring pain and suffering wherever they go.
When some J-Dubs learn TTATT they try to bring the "virus" back to the collective like Hugh did.
Question is, who has the better ability to adapt, the Collective or the WT?
many people will scoff at the thought that the org will collapse.
i agree that it will never collapse but the crumbling has begun.
think about the following.....they have a serious lack of potential future leaders.
MrQuik... Bravo!
