  ive been reading these posts and some on other websites for awhile now, trying to figure things out for myself.

  im still a jw, a non-believing one if you will.

  i more or less grew up as a jw, my father was an alcoholic and my mother became a jw when i was a kid.

  always figured that I probably wouldnt survive Armageddon but at least some of the people I helped bring into the truth would stand a chance.

  I've always wondered, if you could accurately poll JWs, and they could admit this fact out loud, how high a percentage feel the same way. My bet would be it would hover in the 80-90% range. I know I always figured I was a goner - I masturbated The unforgivable sin.

  BTW, welcome, this board can be great therapy to shed the guilt from the JW religion. Ray's books are really good too, it was very interesting to confirm the way the politics work around bethel, which are pretty obvious to see to anyone who spent any time around there. But to hear it from the top levels was very interesting.

  DESTROYED !

  the visiting co pointed out in his talk that "people who love to practice evil will be destroyed [very strong vocal emphasis on this word] !

  " many of you insist he is referring to those whose only "sin" is not being a baptized jehovah's witness and their children.

  after my experiences on the internet from ajwr to h2o to this forum, however, i'm beginning to appreciate that all is not "black" and "white" but many shades of gray, many hues of stunning colors, and a mixture.. why not use the words killed or executed to describe the fate of these evil people, i asked the co afterwards?

  Yep. He was one groovy dude. Nothing like the power trip of being 'god's people' gives you when wiping out entire other races of people. No wonder there are such long standing tensions in that part of the world. Memories run deep I guess.

  Them Isreal dudes were bad mofos - of course, all with 'god's backing' (TM) I'm glad that he wrote the bible to remind us all who's boss around here. I hate to meet him in a dark alley He might scourge me with boils or leprosy or something ...

  my daughters boyfriend was at his moms the other night and the elders just happened to stop by and talk with him.. anyhow, after their discussion about him and my daughter and the baby and what they are going to do, (havent been to meetings in 7 months mind you), her boyfriend told the elders that he no longer wanted to attend meetings and my daughter told them the same.. the elders admitted to them that there is a huge number of people that felt the same way, and the halls are much emptier than they ever were.. hmmm, i wonder why?.

  One has to wonder on the rise in studies. Could be in response to 9-11. I know that scared a lot of people hanging around the edges of JW society. But that has to be wearing off. Could be from elder's pushing family study more, or the tighter control/forcing of time reporting. What easier way to fake a few hours per month to your book study conducter than to claim a study? Plus it makes you look good.

  I particularly liked the part in the bible where Mr Loving God allowed 'his' people to steal and rape the little virgin girls after slaughtering their father, mother, and siblings. But of course, only the virgins. Wonder how they checked .....

  Or the one where he was killings tens of thousands of 'his' people until one dude stuck a sword in a ladies genitals.

  Sounds like my type of guy!

  Good to have you here wildfire. I hope you will find that many of your depression problems might actually 'cure' themselves when you detach yourself from the loads of emotional baggage that the JW religion has been heaping on you. It certainly can help you feel better about yourself when you are not telling yourself everyday that you are not good enough, are not doing enough for 'Jehovah'. Drop the guilt and live life!!!!

  Double Life

  when a witness is leading a double life, are they really leaning toward not believing in the "truth" and just staying in for family and friends sake or do they really believe it is the "truth" but just want to have a little fun?.

  i have a friend who says he is "in" just because he goes to meetings of sundays, however during the week you would not believe it if he told you he was a witness.. just curious..

  I think the vast majority of them beleive in the JW brand religion, and carry around huge bags of guilt beleiving that they are going to go down at the big "A". They just don't have the willpower to live up to the stupid JW laws. As noted, they simply want to enjoy the things that all other normal people want to enjoy, but are made to feel guilty / unworthy for it.

  Until a person educates themselves about the religion they cannot metally break free from it, and will carry around feelings of guilt and fear. And many of these people as noted will still trown up the mental blinders upon any encounter with anti-JW talk/reading, even if they are not regularly exposed to their weekly brainwashing sessions meetings.

  The 'net thang' as JT calls it is finally a way for many of these people to dip their toes in the apostate waters without getting caught or feeling too guilty, they may reason that they can quickly stop reading if it is 'too' apostate. People that would never in a million years have searched out an anti-JW book and bought/owned it will do a quick search on "Jehovah's Witness" in google/yahoo/etc. Hooray for the Net Thang!

  Let the witchhunts commence!!! I say the faster they begin to kick people out the better. After awhile the 'good' JWs are going to look around and wonder what the hell is going on now that 1/2 the people in the KH are MIA. Or why there is a disfellowshipping/DA every other week. All it would take is one popular person/family to go down talking, and suddenly the entire KH knows what's going on. One that ball starts rolling you never know how many people it might pick up on it's way down the hill.

  Did anyone really ever study?

  i know we were taught to study all the wts stuff.

  prepare for each meeting, prepare for service, (gotta know the articles) etc.

  i mean with all the personal study to do, how could anyone have time for newspapers, novels etc.

  I got to where I could 'study' a WT in 10 mins. I did it simply to look good for the mic handlers/elders. And because it was expected. The funny thing was people thought I had studious answers, so well thought out, etc. What balony. I made the sh*t up on the fly... the material was so grade school level it was easy.

  Can we talk about something deep?

  the other night my mom called me to just talk.

  my mother is a jehovah's witness still, so it is not unusual for that to be obvious in the conversation.

  now i love my mom very much, and enjoy any time i can spend talking to her.

  We try to keep things very light when talking to my family. It usually ends up consisting of, how the kids are doing, weather, sports, work etc. ANYTHING but religion........

  Yep, same here. That and light gossip about so and so. Makes for very uninteresting conversations. When it branches into how wonderful this or that JW related things is, or on the opposite hand, how horrible this or that 'worldly' event is, I just grin and bear it. But god forbid I should point out anti-JW things!

  Of course, the funny thing is, when I was 'in' I hated the same drivel. Nothing's changed for me :)
