Uh-oh, where Dubla? Pack goes down to a team that didn't seem like they should even be able to beat the Bengals, and the fishy dudes actually WON with Lucas.

new service report (upturn)

And I think that the bookeeping changes account for a LOT of it. Think about it, now the bookstudy dude has to gather the hours each month, instead of the service overseer elder dude having to get the entire congo's time. So you have one dude calling maybe 10-15 people harrassing them for hours, instead of one dude calling 50-80 people harrassing them for hours.
Many times I would not turn in a slip and never get a call. Easy to slip through the cracks that way. But when the bookstudy dude was doing it, he always called, and I always made up figures.
I would bet one miiiillllion dollars that a vast majority of the reported hours (and as a by-product, the # of publishers reporting them) were fudged to get the nazi bookstudy dude off their backs. Ditto study numbers, what easier way to fake hours then to claim a study w/ kids, or even a fake study in the field. Plus it make you look good.

What happened to Chris Carter - I saw a shot of him in a suit standing around w/ Dan Marino during the game, but didn't hear anything about why he didn't suit up ... did he get his feelings hurt from last weeks fumble against the pack?

The Watchtower - Hustling Pocket Change
by metatron inapparently, at some assembly halls they are removing the pay phones and replacing them with their own phone lines - with a contribution box next to it.. you may already know about district assemblies where they put 'out of order' signs.
on working vending machines to prevent the rank and file from using them.. how much money do they expect to make from this?
they are trying to hustle pocket change!.

What are they going to do next, lock the doors at lunch so no one can go outside?
Hmmm. Don't give them ideas. It might just happen. Wouldn't suprise me actually. Or they might post 'security' people near the food stands to 'warn' the poor JWs who venture there that they are breaking the law
Goes right along with them putting ATMs in the assembly halls. Make sure that the fleeced flock has a way to get cash to put into the boxes. Notice how they aren't so proud and advertising about their 'no passing of the contribution plate' anymore?? That's because they spend 1/3 of their meetings and assembly time pleading for cash nowdays.

Yep, similar list. Had to make a scene in school by refusing the flag salute and all holidays (and I DID really want to join in). Had to not watch most cartoons, most toys were bad, mainly due to them being 'violent' in nature. So what did we do? Made lego warships and blew them up, or crashed toy cars into each other. So much for avoiding 'violence' Most TV shows were bad.
Oh, and no Smurfs

Do you feel alienated from your JW family?
by dins injust a general query as today i am feeling, as most sundays, like i want to move to the moon and get away from my jw family...ie, mother and father.
for years i lived abroad and didn't really think about it much, but now that i am back and in the area, just the very thought of spending too many minutes in their company makes me want to pack up and move away again.
it's been several years since i left home and the jw organization.

Absolutely. While I'm lucky in the fact that so far we have not been subjected to too much questioning (I think they want to avoid having to make the decision to shun us - so they avoid hot topic issues), the sad fact remains that we have so little in common. Our outlook on life couldn't be more opposite. It's frustrating to hear about all the JW happenings like they are the greatest thing since sliced bread - so and so's pioneering, they're going to such and such hall build, the last talk, etc, etc. What can you do but shake your head and say "That's nice", thinking to yourself the entire time "What a waste of time".
It frustrating that every item of news, happenings, etc is yet another chance to reminise on 'how bad the world is', how 'it's so good armageddon is so close'. I could puke. So you end up with NOTHING to talk about because you don't want to trigger another one of those talks. But don't you dare take an opposing viewpoint that things really aren't as bad as they think they are ... that never flies!
And then you see the wasted lives of the kids - being taught that their non-JW grandparents, uncles and aunts are armageddon fodder, and all the typical JW things, no education, no plans for future, etc. So here they are ready to enter the world and have no chance to do anything but drift from one low paying job to another, always looking for that 'next best thing'.

given a roasting for our daughters behaviour!
by Bosho ini'm not sure if i'm posting in the correct section but i had to put this somewhere just to let off some steam.. i have a beautiful little girl, she's just two and a half but she's tall, so she looks more like a four year old.
we live in a flat and have no access to a garden, the lady who lives underneath us is a nightworker, so we have to try and keep the noise down through the day.
which means that my poor daughter doesn't get the chance to run off steam.

This is a good place to vent!
Don't you know that to be a good little JW you must beat the children? And children better not get the impression that 'fun' is OK, because god doesn't want JWs to have 'fun' anyway. Apparently all the 'fun' is waiting for the new world (or course, there will be all that cleaning of the dead bodies before the 'fun' can start)
I think they learnd child disipline from the Catholics.

Ohhh - what a laugh!
by Mr Magoo init's been quite a while since the last time i was in here.. i don't know if any of you rememeber my story, but i'm a happy ung male atheist married to a lovely jw.... last week i attended the study group with my wife - the i-don't-know-what-he's-called-but-he's-visiting-the-study-groups-from-time-to-time was going to be there and there would therefore be coffee, cake and cookies after the meeting.
as i get along quite well with my wife's jw "friends" (some of them being my family in law) i attended the meeting just to take part in the social activities afterwards.. during the i-don't-know-what...'s speak at the end of the meeting he explained how telephone preaching could be used and blahblahblah... in the end he then said "so are any of you interested in trying that?
" - no reaction from anyone - not a nod, not a smile - nothing.

No kidding Magoo. I remember the many times the elders would try to 'encourage' telephone witnessing and NOBODY ever wanted to do it. With the exception of a few pioneers who would spend all afternoon and end up making maybe one or two calls each. The rest of the time was gossip sessions. Telephone witnessing SUCKS way worse than door knocking.
