Jeopardy! 587/586 B.C. Answer
by Jourles inis anyone watching jeopardy right now?
under the topic, nebuchadnezzar, the answer was something like, "in 586 or 587 b.c., this city was captured by nebuchadnezzar....blah blah blah.
" i wonder how many jdubs flipped out about that one!

Russell also went with a couple of those late 1800's dates too. Jesus returned invisibly in the late 1800s. 1914 was armageddon. It wasn't until the mid-late 1920's that Joe 'Iron Fisted - where's my cigar?' Ruthford changed that stuff around.

Brain Washing? Mind Control?
by Sirona indo the jehovahs witnesses use brain washing or mind control techniques?.
if a good dub attends 5 hours of meetings a week, does 2 hours of service a week and does 1 hour of personal study a week, this adds up to 416 hours a year of time thinking and being "taught" about jehovahs witness beliefs.
416 hours adds up to about 11 working weeks a year!

Very true Dakota! I am now very gun-shy of anything or anyone that presumes to be the one and only answer to something. If there's one thing I learned is that there is always more then one way to reach a goal, perform a task, or get information.

Can we really fade away for good
by JH ini was wondering how long an inactive witness can stop going to meetings before the elders can disfellowship the person?
some are saying that the elders will visit inactive ones in jan, feb, march.
is there a strategy up their sleeve?

Whatever you want to call it, we can debate semantics all day long, the long and short of it is that endless pounding of repetitious 'facts' color your mind into believing them. So I would say yes they 'brainwash' you. They do it by repeating over and over again the basics 'we are the truth' 'we are the FDS' 'obey the FDS/elders/etc' 'do more FS, meetings, more more more'.
The end result is that the average JW does not even have ability to consider the above 'facts' to not be true without their brain automatically shunting into panic mode. Like tripping a circut breaker.

AMNESIAN: ha ha too true. You can't get a brain dead witless to open a new mag - much less pick up a 1950! bound volume and actually read it!!

Believers and their "Free Will" Dogma
by JT inone of the most interesting dogmas found among believers is the concept called free will- on the surface it starts out sounding reasonable, until you start the ask questions and listen to the explanations that are given , after awhile you realize it has no legs to stand on.
we are told by believers that god allows each person to make thier own choice and we are not robots and therefore we are able to exercise free will, the only problem is when you ask the question, what about when someone exercises thier free will and it harms someone else, why would a loving god allow someone the free will to hurt someone innocent, at that point free will sounds more like an excuse to give god a bye in terms of having to do anything- i read this posters comment and i couldn't for the life of me see any logic or reasonablness behind the concept of free will when folks get hurt like this person has-.
one of my earliest memories is of my grandfather raping me.

Whatever Swedyboy - you can spout bible scripture all you want. Maybe you even realize somewhere in that skull of yours that we really don't care what the bible says about itself. We've already dismissed the bible as nothing more than yet another holy book written by man to help opress his fellow man. You can spout bible, koran, book of morman, whatever you want.
BTW, your 'last days' scripture was very applicable, say, in the 1400's. I wonder - are we still in the last days since then?
And I just wanted to remind you that if you don't start kissing Hank's ass, not only will you not get a million $$$ when he gets back to town, he will probably kick your ass too. It says so in the list Hank wrote. And we KNOW that that list is true!

Oh S#*t! what do i do now?
by Pleasuredome inif i survive it thru the coming inquisition of jan,feb & march....what am i gonna do for the memorial?
if i dont go big questions are going to be asked!
i dont agree with the rejecting passing of the bread and the wine... so what do you think i should do?
-

I don't know your entire situation, but for the first couple of years after I 'faded' my parents would call to 'remind' me when the memorial was, and 'encourage' me to go. I never did. But my fade was accompanied by a move, so that made it easier.
If you can possibly not go, I wouldn't. That will make it pretty clear to those who know you that you are not interested anymore. The problem will be what is their reaction? Will it force a shun? But going feeds false hopes in them.

More Statistics - Even more to die at Armageddon!
by eyeslice init comes up time and again in the wts literature and meetings just how jehovah is patient and loving by allowing this system to go on, thus allowing more people to be saved.. but, the figures dont add up.. i know that witnesses dont really believe that baptism is being born again, but on the other hand, it is implied that those who are not baptized are in danger at armageddon.
this was brought out at this years dc, where young ones were urged to "seriously consider getting baptized".. .
i am aware that figures can be made to say anything but in the table below, i have attempted to look at the difference between physical births and "spiritual" births, i.e.

Good comments on the stats. It is funny how the dubs like to say that jehuber is allowing time for more people to be reached. Yet in all that time that a few more thousand/million people are 'reached' (most by being birthed into JW-hood) hundreds of millions of people are born. It's a never ending cycle, and the JWs are falling farther and farther behind in their preaching effort. In the finacial world it's called negative amortization
