  "a friend of a friend" applied to go to an international convention this year.. they have not heard anything about whether they were accepted or not.. but recently, they received this e-mail:.

  according to our records, you applied and were approved by your body of elders to be a delegate to international conventions outside of the united states, but were not selected.

  Why would anyone from Europe want to come to the U.S. for a convention. Most Europeans come here for Disneyworld, or to visit NYC. No wonder they are trying to fill the US Int'nl Conventions with U.S. delegates....how pathetic

  The org is totally bashing higher education. Total reversal from their vaugue change on their stance circa 1995 or so.... I think that generation of high school graduates went to college, many got degrees, saw the WT propaganda for what it truly is and left.

  Its all about timing too the mid 90's is when the internet first started gaining momentum. The real threat to them is not higher education but the internet but they can not tell its members to avoid the internet now because its a part of our culture, like television.

  Even they realize how valuable the internet is and are hitting that pretty hard for JW's to use jw.org in the ministry, family worship, print your own literature, etc. They are picking the one thing that they can try to gain control over and it happens to be "higher education".

  that eventually led to me drifting away, but this was my personal, singular issue that no one could address.

  The paedophile scandals.I was horrified by the way the BOE treated victims.Bunch of sick bastards.

  This was it for me too. There is simply no way that a god that the WT promotes as loving and kind would impose a 2 witness rule on an activity that very seldom has any witness at all let alone 2 of them. The fact that these ignorant, cultish leaders would attempt to promote this is amoral and inexcuseable. Oh and illogical.

  Has anyone accidentally stumbled across someone they knew on here?

  i keep hoping and doing searches on the site for people in my area.

  so far no one i recognize.

  i have a few df'd friends that i lost touch with long before they were out (two who were elders actually when they got the boot) and would love to find out they were on here, but don't know if they plan on coming back.

  the recent letter being us to come to detroit shows that jws are beginning not to take the gb seriously anymore.

  the buzz following the meeting was that the letter was unprecedented in its tone.

  this coming from long time jws of 30 years plus.

  I agree with this thread and the comments to a degree. However, there will always been zealots who will never question their precious, human, leaders. The average rank and file JW is growing apathetic though and it shows in the drying up donations, lack of commenting at meetings, lack of attendance in general, lessening of respect for elders, CO's, etc.

  I am convinced that many JWs are in a similar if not identical situation as I am....living a lie for the sake of family.

  CO's & DO's age 70+ to be laid off on 9/1/14

  in a private conversation with a c.o.

  friend from north carolina, he told me yesterday that they just got a letter that all traveling overseers (do's & co's) age 70 & up are going to be laid off on 09/01/2014.

  they will be asssigned to local congregations and further details are pending.. .

  The difficulty for the WTBTS is that there are very few young COs coming up through the ranks

  Not here in my area of the U.S. There are "baby" CO Subs popping up everywhere. Many in their early-mid 30's, company men, been pioneering for at least 10+ years, talks on all Assemblies and Regional Conventions, etc. Now it makes sense...they were lining these little kiss-asses up to take the place of these retired CO's.

  So we had our CO Visit and we were quizzed about the "problem" of higher education as well. Not the exact wording or questions that my friend had a couple months ago but same thought.

  Pretty much Higher Education is always bad. Higher Education is defined by the F&DS as 4 years of a university with the view towards getting a specific degree. In other words if they do not pioneer and go to a 4year university then they and their parents are spiritually weak and need to be spoken too.

  Do they lack faith in Jah's promises? Are they putting their trust in Satan's system? If the father is an appointed man then we were told as per the Letter to BOE March 6, 2012 to evaluate the situation and see if he still qualifies.

  It was quite unnerving and really lacked any logical reasoning. Higher Education will always = falling away from the "truth" period! He said as spiritual shepherds we need to be aware if any of our little lamb's () stray from the flock and get snatched by Satan's influence.....a big one he uses is higher education. He went on and on but I won't disgust you with the details.

  I am not sure if this is an across the board type situation or regional based on BOE reports but my friend and I live in different parts of the U.S. and it was the same ideas. So they are definitely on the hunt for poor JW's trying to educate themselves and getting a life.

  i find it odd that the district overseer today made.

  1. zero yes 0 references to the fds in any of his talks.. 2.he also told elders that the brothers worship god and not them.so therefore the elders have no authority to order the friends around.. 3. he also talked about the stanford prison study and said that people who receive authority over others often abuse it.

  4. he mentioned that when he disagrees with the branch (aka the fds) he's learned to just do what they say.

  Its only a matter of time before a zealous CO or wannabe CO turns his ass in. This org rewards "snitching" behavior. This DO sounds like an awesome guy but he'd better watch his ass very carefully if he wants to remain in his free room and board job for much longer.

  as i grew up in the religion, i was a 10. i wanted to be made a "servant" because that was instilled in me from infancy.

  i diligently studied ever piece of watchtower literature and defended my religion intensely.. when i got into my 30's, i started to see little cracks in the watchtower's surface but decided to "wait on jehovah".

  then i started to research a little more critically and realized i couldn't defend the prophecies, the treatment of people and the hypocrisy that was becoming more obvious, that especially an elder can see.. it was a gradual thing---from a 10 to a zero!.

  Sliding scale for me.

  24 yrs ago= 10+

  from 1996-2002= 8

  2002=4

  2008=6 (I bounced back a little and didn't view this site for a little while

  2010-Present=varies between 1 and 2. This is because I am still technically in so I count going through the motions i.e. meetings, fake service, giving some parts as a 1-2.
