The real theme of the memorial is: We are going to pass the bread and wine. But you sure as hell better not take any.

This was the first memorial that I missed - ever. It is unbelievable that I was not able to hear such an important "special announcement." This announcement may have made me re-evaluate my whole relationship with god's organization.....

Andy Rooney on women over 40
by MsMcDucket inas i grow in age, i value women who are over 40 most.
here are just a few reasons why: a woman over 40 will never wake.
you in the middle of the night to ask, "what are you thinking?

This has been floating around the internet for a long time. I saw Andy Rooney on 60 minutes several months ago. In reference to these comments about 40+ women, he stated that he was not the author.

Sex, Wine and Psychology
by metatron init seems that a popular porn star has branched out into fine wines and is winning rave reviews for the excellence of her product.
from wine professionals.. when i read things like the above, i think back to the image of wanton, immoral people foisted on us by the watchtower - people.
laden down with guilt, depression, and paralyzed by sin.

One of the things that helped me to transform myself and my attitude is listening to some "self help" tapes. I especially liked a tape series from Bryan Tracy. I can't listen to them now because they seem very simplistic and tripe but at the time the tapes were extremely helpful.
One of his comments had to do with getting rid of the past. He likened all the past wrongs that were done to you as things you put in a knapsack. Whenever something does not go quite right you take all the stuff out of the knapsack and say things like "if only so-and-so didn't do this to me" or "if only my parents didn't do what they did" and so on..... Essentially his advice was that you have to forgive what has been done to you, appoligize for what you did to others, and take responsibility for your life going forward.
What he described was a very powerful lesson to me. While I still sometimes hold on to some of these things that happened in the past I have really tried to follow his advice.
Taking responsibility for your own actions is pretty scary, but it can be very rewarding.

COs are nothing more than "compliance officers" of a major publishing company.

"Evil Slave" or Apostate which term do you prefer used on ex-JW's?
by booker-t ini hate both terms to describe ex-jws.
i know most people say "apostate" when they refer to an ex-jw that is an opposer now but some will say "so and so" is an "evil slave" now.
evil slave sounds so "boogie man under the bed" that i just laugh when i hear the term.

You can call me an evil apostate. I am a slave to no one.

IP_SEC wrote: Kinda creepy, the notes in his book are verbatim as the notes in mine.
Problem solved. We have a couple of ex-elders verify that the marginal notes are the same as what was told to them.IP/Stilla/AuldSoul - do you still have your 'Flock' books??
This is kind of creepy. These notes look just like mine. Must have gone to the same elder's school. I think I am going to get sick.

Latest WT study article - preparation for upcoming new light?
by truth_about_the_truth in.
the latest wt study article seemed like an article to prep the masses for 'new light' to be revealed in the very near future.. i have never seen an article like this one where they summarized their 'flashes of light' in their history in this manner and bombarded the minds with the need to accept all and any change within the org.. it could be for the purpose of getting the rank and file to accept a pretty big change or a series of big changes very soon.. what do you think?
what do you think it'll be?.

No one that I knew saw a change coming in the 1914 generation doctrine...some still haven't.
I remember having a conversation with a thoughtful sister in the mid-90s. We were talking about the fact that the time was running out for the 1914 generation. Rather than the usual discussion that the end was so near we both talked about how the society had painted itself in a corner and were speculating about what the next "flash of light" would be.
That was a rare conversation. I rarely was able to talk to anyone about anything other than the very superficial. When the 1914 generation change came I was shocked and very upset that NO ONE SEEMED TO GET THE SIGNIFICANCE of the change.
