I think the reason is pretty simple and similar to all religions.
No one wants to die, and people are willing to believe and do things to feel that they won't or that there is an afterlife.
understanding the illusionary concept that holds jehovah's witnesses captive.
"there is only one thing that needs to be known about the watchtower society and there is only one way to know it.

i was just pondering whether jws are capable of having a calm, in depth discussion about religious or faith topics?.
i have just finished listening to a great podcast by "dogma debate" (dan) episode 333. this fantastic, in-depth conversation between a theist and an atheist was a masterful example of how a dignified conversation can take place without it resorting to abruptness or even nastiness.. jws on the other hand seem incapable of having such discussion without ending up in the following ways:.
1)they get dogmatic and defensive if a differing view is presented.. 2)if the conversation doesn't go their way, they cut it short saying something like "well, we had better agree to disagree" or the like.. so why the arrogance?
Generally no. I wasn't for a long time.
The other 1/2 is because inside you are afraid that a challenge could reveal that what you believe may be wrong (this reaction is more subliminal than overt).
Plus on the mechanical side, generally, JWs dont see that they way they argue a point is by using circular logic, which never goes anywhere past "I know you are but what am I."
well i thought i had heard it all but, the mercury columns "will christians enjoy sex in heaven" just hurt my brain.
how can god allow sexual relations in heaven without marriage??
in heaven there is no need for anyone to belong exclusively to another(wow!!!
DesirousOfChange - ok enough bragging!
as i intimate in the words below, i like autumn and winter, but there's a downward spiral in my emotions.
i'm in control, yet, .
rain, at long last, has touched both our land and my soul.
I am for sure.

There will be a lot of "Oh God, oh God, oh God, yes, yes, yesssssssss!"
good afternoon , .
i have been having doubts for many years and as most jw's i have certainly not done myself a favor by suppressing all of my critical thinking.
i am married with 3 kids and my wife and i are inactive, but my wife has made it very clear in speech and action that she wants to go to all meetings, field service, and indoctrinate our kids.
Hello CovertsadJW - I know exactly how you feel.
Let me emphasize 1 thing.
All your actions from now on NEED to be focused on making sure you KIDS do not become JWs.
Your happiness, your marriage must be secondary to that. You OWE your kids as a man to not let them become part of this cult and waste their lives.
In their lifetime the WT will crumble, and what you dont want to happen is this. Your kids are 40, and come to you and say, "Why didnt you tell us this was all bullshit? How could you let us waste our lives dad?"
I was able to help wake up my wife (which I did not at all expect) and we all got out together.
Now my kids can be normal humans, and have a great life ahead of them.
I would be happy to give you some tips that might work if you want them.
all creationist arguments follow an identical pattern.. first a quick way to remember the format - 'complexity, complexity, complexity; therefore god'.. now a more detailed guide to formulating an argument.. identify some complex feature of the natural world.
a quick google search or nature documentary will quickly provide inspiration.
creationist websites have hundreds of them you can copy-paste without attribution.. do no research at all on what is currently known about the evolutionary history of this feature.
Just make sure the other person is not interested in Logic, Facts, or Reason, and your set.
but how??????

She had it very rough after the birth, I wonder if she took blood?
By the way, did she get english lessons from Donald J. Trump or Sara Palin?
"I am Jehovah's Witness. If you don't believe in God — I think if you don't believe in God, it's going to be tough to live life because pretty much that's the basis of life, it comes from God. And so being a Jehovah's Witness, obviously we believe in God and the Bible. And without Him, I wouldn't be here right now. I really thank Him for everything."
did anyone have other jws try to guilt trip them when they were leaving or if you were making a decision which jws felt was wrong but wasn't unscriptural?
i'm getting people guilt tripping me to eventually get back with my emotionally, spiritually and mentally abusive husband who i'm separated from.
i feel sick at the thought of getting back together and putting myself through that nightmare again but i'm being told its what jehovah wants coz he doesn't want families to be apart.
YES!
A number of people.
And one of my closest friends who I would see on occasion, it would start off nice then end in the guilt trip to come back.
One other person laid it on thick about a close friend of mine who died before I was out and how will he feel if he doesn't see you - and I am counting on you to get through this horrible time im facing....
Never anything from anyone about "Im here for you whatever you need" it is always about THEM or Jehober.
some of my old jw friends are sickly and getting on in age.
so far, i’ve only gone to my mother’s memorial and have avoided the kingdom hall altogether.... your thoughts please?.
I just went recently. It had been 2 years + since I had been in the Hall.
It was ok. Funny the variety of reactions, from avoiding you at all costs, to the fake we miss you, to the sincere we miss you, to normal conversation.
I was so happy to leave the place though.
