Rumour 144,000 literal number teaching to be abandoned at Annual Meeting
by slimboyfat insay it ain’t so!
.
in one sense it’s a no brainer because the figures just don’t add up any more.. in another (negative) sense it’s a no brainer because it’s been fundamental to jws since year dot and might undermine the whole thing?

My opinion is that if there is such a change, it would be motivated entirely by GB succession planning. The doctrine began in the Russell days when 144,000 seemed like a lot considering the relatively few people in the Bible Student association. May have seemed believable at the time, but as the years have gone by and there's no end in sight, it has become ridiculous. The pool of candidates for leadership, ie: the GB, is so small that all they can get are nitwits.

Fully Colored Version of My Book of Bible Stories
by Nosferatu indoes anybody know which edition of "my book of bible stories" had the fully colored pages?
i'm pretty sure it came out late in the book's life, but i'd like someone to verify which one it is..

We’re making too much of what is simply a matter of printing economics. Back in the heyday of WT printing, they would print color only on one side of the 32 page signature (which was then folded multiple times on all four axes), resulting in a printed book or magazine with some pages in color and some in black and white. If you have ever tried to create a print of something which you then fold to produce 32 pages all facing the same direction you will know what I mean.

AWAKE MAGAZIBE'S SURPRISING NEW DIRECTION
by raymond frantz inhttps://youtu.be/ze4q_7_-uo4?si=l0xe0drc5a9urhyt.
so there was a time the awake magazine was printed every 15 days but now since jehovah is blessing them so much the magazine is printed once a year, and here you have the 1st edition for the year , which is nothing more than an informatial of how good of a charity they are to their local community.
so we read in the following box: what we are doing firstly, jehovah’s witnesses promote a balanced, healthy lifestyle.

I look for Awake to cease publication. It is nothing more than a 1st grade level flyer now. They may as well just print a pamphlet if they want something for the JWs to hand out at their carts.

Sorcery = Pharmakeia
by KerryKing inrev18:23 '....you deceived the nations with your sorceries'.. the interlinear for sorceries reads pharmakeia.. bible hub has some interesting definitions, i'll try to share screenshots below.
the gist of it is that sorcery involves drugs/medicines/poisons, with or without spells, sorcery is not the same as witchcraft or divination, or white/black magic.
i have long wondered about the connection between the medical/pharmaceutical industry's symbol of the serpent wrapped around a pole/stake, and the use of the word pharmaceuticals/pharmacy.. considering the common use of fluoride in public drinking water, nsaids with side effects such as depression, brain fog, dizziness, and opioids, mrna gene therapy, vaccines and so on, i wonder am i going mad, are these all coincidences??

I think the 1970's ban on smoking was more of a reverse logic. Previously JWs had been allowed to smoke, but it was kind of discouraged. Not allowed in service, etc. Generally in the world, the cancer causing part of smoking was becoming more known by 1970 and the JW leadership thought (I believe) "What reason can we come up with to get the JWs to quit smoking? Oh yeah, it has a drug in it, which links it to pharmakeia, which in turn links it to spiritism!" Presto, smoking is banned and JW smokers either quit in 6 months or are disfellowshipped. Problem solved!

Questions about WT illustrations
by Beck_Melbourne inwhen i was a kid....i used to look at the wt illustrations of paradise conditions and would day dream about life in the new system....i later used this same technique (shame on me) to brain wash bible students.
however...as i grew up lol (apparently!
) the illustrations changed....and became more modern.

This one isn't a WT illustration. It's a Soviet propaganda poster.

Cedar Point Ohio 🙄🙄🤦🏻♂️
by xaminewt ini started doubting the organization when i was 15. i spent the next 12 years doing in-depth research involving numerous emails with bible scholars and scientists.
i finally left the organisation 3 years ago.
technically i was never actually a jw as i was never baptised, so i’m not being shunned.

A lot of the early JW nonsense came from the mind of Clayton Woodworth. He was one of the authors of the 'Finished Mystery', and editor of the Golden Age. Total bunk.

How many JW in the 1920's
by xaminewt ini'm trying to find out how many jw there were globally in 1924, 1925, 1926, 1927 and 1928. the watchtower of 1926 says that there were 25,000 in attendance at the magdeburg convention for the public address, but the same watchtower say that one the last day of the convention there were 15,000 present, so i assume at least 10,000 were interested persons - non jw.
the watchtower 1955 says: "for this year of 1927 the number in attendance at the spring memorial internationally was 88,544, yet of these only some 18,602 were active as house-to-house kingdom announcers".
these statistics would seem to imply that the majority of jw in 1926 were at the magdeburg convention.

The published numbers of Bible Student/JW members over the decades since the '20s are not likely to be of much use, as the definition of 'member' has continued to change. JWs have always struggled with defining 'member'. This was one of the things that Rutherford and his seven accomplices got into trouble for during WW1 and found themselves in prison. The Bible Students previously had always said they weren't a religion, didn't have a clergy, etc. and never bothered with defining membership. Then they issued affidavits for men called up under the selective service asserting they were members of a pacifist religion. After WW1 they changed their stance and required people to provide a record of preaching work, which I believe was motivated at the time to create a written record to substantiate 'membership'. It was all about the draft.
In recent decades (post WW2), membership has been defined as 'regular publisher', not attendance at meetings, not baptism, but publisher with a written (now electronic) service record.
