I need help/info on other religions vs the WTS

over the past week since i've announced that i was stepping down i have had a few conversations with my family, and against my better judgement i mentioned that i was having doubts.

invariably almost every discussion about the jw religion eventually boils down to the argument that only witnesses are doing this or that.

unfortunately this is a weak part of my debate, i have only been associated with the jw religion so i have very little information on what other religions beleive and practice.

I agree with SixofNine.

I would suggest you not base your argument on the doctrine of JW's or other religions. For me, it is a faith issue-do I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord? Do I believe God rasied him from the dead?

Read Romans chapter 10, specifically verses 5-13. (And I would suggest you try to read other versions besides the NWT)

To answer your questions though, I can say that we as a congregation (Baptist) do most of our "preaching" not so much by door-to-door but by ministering to those who need help. Reaching out to the lonely, visiting the sick, feeding the hungry, helping people pay their bills or buying groceries,etc... We do some door-to-door but it is not our focus. I can say that our denomination has about 5,000 missionaries in about 153 countries and about 5,000 in North America.

I myself was able to go to Moldova in 2000 (having never flown in my life before!)and be a part of a Medical team where we went from village to village giving out medicines and vitamins, money, whatever we could. It was one of the "richest" experiences of my life!

I believe that our souls are immortal and that when we die we are either present with the Lord or not based on whether we have accepted him as our Savior or not. (2 Corinthians 5)

But, again the real issue is Jesus. Don't lose your focus on him-people who are Christians will fail you, not every church will be a good represenative of Christ, not every "Christian" will be either.

I know how hard it is, I have been where you are! To be honest I was scared to death the first time I set foot in a church after I left-which was about 9 months or so, a Catholic church. I was so indoctrinated.

Anyway, this is my 2 cents worth to this topic!

When did you have your first date??

i'm 19 years old and i still don't have a girlfriends, i'm starting to think that i'm not normal.

what is the average age for this?

I'm about to become a US citizen! Woo-hoo!

this monday i went to the ins building here in houston to continue my process in becoming a us citzen.

i went in the building.

i had to pass though a metal detector and then i went inside.

Ground Zero PHOTOS! (Goodbye Red X's???)

these were taken on february 11, 2002 (five months after the tragedy).. this day, they pulled the bodies of 5 victims from the rubble.. i wish the photos were larger but the larger photos eventually turn into red x's.. reflect and enjoy!.

the building's that you see did not suffer as much damage as the other building's (shown above) that were to the left of the wtc.

a closer shot of the smaller buildings that are shown in one of the photos above.... .

The pictures are great in that it conveys just how vast the damage was. TV just doesn't do it justice. I imagine being there in person is even more profound.

I'M FREE!!!

this is my first post on this site, and i feel very liberated and comfortable, so i have a feeling that this d/b may be a good thing for me.

my story (although to my "worldly" support group it sounds strange) is alot like many of yours.

i was raised a witness, altough my parents have been inactive as long as i can remember.

I pulled out when I was about your age. It was a very exciting time for me! I was neither DA-d or DF'd at first. I don't even think I got a shepherding call! Then when I married my husband in a church (I was 24) I heard that I was DA-d.

Sure hope you are feeling better soon! I shout a big "AMEN" to your list! I've had them since I was 7 years old. There was one time, briefly, where I thought I would have preferred a Migraine and that was while I was in Labor! But then my beautiful little girl was born...
