i received this e-mail from my sister (known here as 'nikita') on february 12th:
hi guys, just to fyi we had a fire that started in our dryer on tuesday night-fortunately, i was home (with ann's baby) and caught it at the early stages and was able to call the fire dept (another fortunate thing was our firemen just happened to be having a meeting and responded before the whistle sounded from the 911 center.
) but, even so, by the time they got here it was only minutes away from blowing as at the top of our basement stairs the temp.
Thanks XW and BG!

Wow, I am humbled by the responses of caring and well-wishing! Thanks Brian for thinking of a way to cheer me up-it worked!
We are still unable to live in our home, the smoke was too thick and even after they ran some kind of machine (an "ozone" something or other) it just smells too bad in there. I personally am hoping that they just tear out the carpets, padding and let us replace them. They are junking our living-room furniture and hoping they do the same with the mattresses. We have a motel now, 'cause one of our cats was refusing to eat while at the Vets and he lost a pound! He's eating well now and happy to be around his family once again!
Just found out that one of our dogs (who went in for an xray to see if he had some kind of obstruction-problem that he had before the fire) has a history of abuse! They found 7-8 shot-gun pellets in his left shoulder and his left hip had been broken badly at one time! We adopted him (black-lab/german shep. mix) in 1999 from a shelter. It explains alot about his personality-he's a sweetheart but he is very "quirky" about his personal space. I cannot believe some people could be so cruel!

do things by half!

thanks for the thoughts and well wishes!Shamus
, my kitties were doing ok, but one of them (the elder of the 2) began to lose weight so we had to get a hotel room so he could be with us and get his appetite back-he's a funny little fellow-but he knows how to "protest" to get what he wants!I am hopeful that what you say is true and we get a much-needed thorough cleaning and almost brand-new home!

the clothes in the dryer were on fire, but I was later told that there was a clog in the hose-which was thin shiny-metal material so I think it was from the hose being clogged although the hose itself never caught fire.Little Toe, "
curveball" may as well be my middle name, lol!Badwillie
, the deminz will get you every time, won't they?!Pleasuredome,
thanks!reboot,
yes, they said they will pay for the cats boarding and now that we have to rent a motel room, they are paying for that, too. That alone is a big relief!morton68
so true-I am fortunate that it wasn't any worse and every time I feel like complaining I think about that-how it could have been much worse. One of the firemen made a point to tell me he was glad to see we had working smoke detectors and to make sure we purchase new ones as once they have been in a fire, they aren't reliable anymore-which I didn't know!simplesally-
yes, ours is paying for the motel and the pets when they were being boarded-boy that would be overwhelming to think about if we had to worry about that on top of the house contents!Brummie, nilfun, galaxy7, DevonMc -
thanks! Yes, I believe that too (that every thing happens for a reason.)outnfree-
yummy-sounds delicious! Tooth is doing much better now that it's out-but still a little tender. I will be faithful about vacuming that lint out from now on!mouthy-
long is relative-it sure is taking a long time from my perspective but they are probably just getting things warmed up from theirs! But, still, life is good and we have so much and things could have been so much worse.scully,
it's looking like they will cover the things that need covering, so hopefully that's what it ends up being!shotgun
-yeah, it can be trying, but my mom and dad in-laws are great people and I am gald that they are patient! My sis-in-law is the one who can get trying!!Winston-
yes, that's a picture alright! I didn't think they would even be able to get one of the cats out-but they did! He looked so tiny in the arms of the big, smokey fireman! you wuss, you, lol!Flower,
thanks!Again, thanks to all of you - it was a great mood lifter at the end of my day!

i was raised a jw, seriously studied the bible, consumed it, and in my decades, found very few jws or non-jws who knew it as well as i. i love god's word, the bible.
i left the jws as a teen/young man, df'd for fornication, with no witnesses, and i never showed for the judicial commitee.
when i came back in (in my 20s) and was re-instated, i was "super jw", very zealous, and very vocal and knowlegeable of the bible.
Hi, I am funchbacks sis-
Funchback,
Why, yes, I am "near Philly". About 2 hours away. Your sis is yet another in the "selective" DA process? Whadda buncha hypocrites they are! For every person like me or your sis, or others on this board who have been DAd without their consent, nor desire, there are dozens who do the same things, and, for whatever reason, don't get DAd or DFd. It depends on who you know, how quietly you left the org, how much you shamed them by proving they teach commands of men as sayings of God, etc.
Anyway, glad to be out- one of the BEST things I've ever done!!
So true! We had a woman in our former church marry a high-school sweetheart (they were both widowed and in their 60's at the time) who happened to be a "devout" JW. She was a baptist. When he was told of how my former elders DA"d me-he insisted there must have been more to it than just the fact that I married a non-jw! He said they would never do such a thing within his hall-and you know what- they never did DA him- for doing the same thing that I did!
jaden, flower, slipnslidemaster, and mrs. badwillie.
jaden, flower, and mrs. badwillie .
flower, mrs. badwillie, and badwillie's backside .
Jaden and little badwillie are quite handsome!
Flower and Mrs badwillie are beautiful!
Slippy-what a catch!
Badwillie, I can really see both your parents in you but I see more of your dad now that you are older!
Thanks for posting, bruddah!
if so, was it a stranger or was it someone you knew, and how did the relationship develop afterward?
i did once, a friend who was drowning, after the incident the friendship totally deteriorated and now whenever i think about it, i wonder why i bothered, it's difficult watching someone drown, especially when they shout your name instead of help.
anyway, anyone got any experiences to share?.
yes, my daughter, when she was about 2, when she was choking on a piece of candy
i just wanted to clear something up about micheal's kids being biracial since i see people commenting on it a lot on this board and others.
fyi, mixed kids don't always come out looking mixed.
sometimes a mixed child will come out looking black, and not white at all.
Ariell, I understood perfectly what you were trying to say and why you said it. My brothers and I are bi-racial and most people would never guess upon first impression.
have you undergone psychometric testing to see what kind of personality you are?
the following emode test is free, and will help identify your personality type:.

The first time I ever did Myer-Briggs was at a Marriage Retreat and it was an eye-opener! It really helped my husband and I understand clearly why we "act" the way we do.
I am an:
INFP
The INFP takes his/her energy from the inner world of thoughts and emotions. He/she prefers dealing with patterns and possibilities, especially for people, and prefers to make decisions on the basis of personal values. His/her life is flexible, following new insights and possibilities as they arise. He/she is quiet and adaptable (up to a point - when his/her values are violated the normally adaptable INFP can surprise people with his/her stance). He/she will seem to be very interested in ideas, and he/she may sometimes make very creative contributions. He/she has a hidden warmth for people and a desire to see self and others grow and develop. He/she prefers to undertake work that has a meaningful purpose.
While my husband is an
ENFJ
The ENFJ takes his/her energy from the outer world of actions and spoken words. He/she prefers dealing with patterns and possibilities, particularly for people, and makes decisions using personal values. His/her life is organised on a personal basis, seeking to develop and maintain stable relationships with those people he/she likes. He/she is actively concerned with promoting personal growth in others. He/she is also highly sociable, and expressive of feelings towards others, but can find conflict and criticism difficult, particularly if it might damage long term relationships. He/she works best in situations involving people.

a positive message for those who are feeling down.
after a year of being out of the 'mind prison', things seem to be moving in the right direction for me.
i've met the people and am doing things that will make a real difference in my life.
Well said, PD.
if you are no longer associating with jws either from fading or daing or being df'd, do you miss your jw friends?
have you found over time that the void was filled and you no longer needed them?
did you in fact find out your life was happier without them?
At first I missed them but more than that I felt I was hurting them-like they would feel I abandoned them. But, I found other friends and that passed after a while. If any of them would want to reconnect with me now-I would welcome it (assuming they were out of the troof as well!)

ladies - if you accidentally over-salt a dish while it's still cooking, drop in.
a peeled potato and it will absorb the excess salt for an instant "fix-me-up.".
real women - if you over-salt a dish while you are cooking, that's too damn bad.. please recite with me, the real women's motto: "i made it and you will eat it.
1/4 lady -3/4 real woman here!
LOL-those were funny!
