Congregation Picnics
by Funchback inmy former congregation usually had a congregation picnic once a year.
all of the brothers (a/k/a men) had to pay for all of the food.
the sisters (a/k/a women) had the godly priviledge of serving the food.

Hey Bri! I remember those days--one year I picked up a tick at one of those "gatherings."

Results of "The Test" How much self-respect do you have?
Your score = 90
What does your score mean?Way to go! You seem to have a high level of self-respect. You don't put yourself in situations that could be potentially humiliating and don't do things that make you uncomfortable just to please others. You're likely very self-confident and know that to get respect from others, you have to respect yourself first. As a result of this insight, you don't put yourself down or jeopardize compromise your beliefs to look good. This is an extremely healthy attitude, one that surely protects others from taking advantage of you and allows you to maintain your integrity!

OMG Xena, I have in-laws (hubby's aunt/uncle) in WV who would do no less and possibly more!
*note* do not marry hillbillys from Arkansas unless you want to end up cooking roadkill....or be the First Lady....or possibly both.
Too funny!

but the sad thing was a little deer was standing the side of the truck shaking and looking terrified, musta just killed its ma
OMG that is too sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know how wives can be, a few weeks after the "bambi" incident, we were traveling on the road where it happened and since I wasn't there and I have to know all the details, I ask my husband what I thought was a simple question about it. (Our daughter was in the car as well.) He shot daggers from his eyes at me. He was so afraid our daughter would get all upset again and he was probably right! Needless, to say the topic was never brought up again!

Mitral Valve Prolapse
by kls indoes anyone else have this ?
does it bother and annoy you as much as me, especially having to take antibiotics before a dentist will touch ya.
-
Nikita
I don't have it, but several in-laws have it. Recently, my 40 year-old brother-in-law's got bad enough that he needed to have the valve repaired. That was a difficult surgery and recovery for him. But, of he hadn't done it it was bad enough that he would have died within the year.

((((((((((Brummie)))))))))))))) Crying from your story and sensitive heart-as well as everyone else's tales.
I know I hit a chipmunk recently-it just came out too fast for me to stop. My husband was traveling with my daughter once and a car full of her friends when an oncoming car hit a deer but as if that wasn't bad enough for the "eyewitnesses" the deer bounced off of that car and onto our car! Poor girls-it was not a fun traveling experience-for them or for hubby trying to calm them all down for the remainder of the ride home-like another 30 minutes!

My wife and I ...
by Brummie in...are seperating, and darn it feels so weird.
one day i'm like "yeah, ok, sounds like this could be for the best" and the next day i'm feelin like :( i'm all packed up and ready to go on the 28th of this month, have arranged a new place to live not too far away from my boys, cant imagine life without them running around causing havoc everyday...but my wife and i are still handling things well and arranging weekly visits for them so i guess i have to look on the bright side.
wont share anymore except to say there is no 3rd person involved or anything like that .

Elders "disassociated" me-after I married non-JW
by Nikita inin was baptized in 1983 at the age of 18. by the end of 1984, i was beginning the fade thing.
for 5 years i was an "inactive" witness.
i can recall maybe one visit from an elder , though a few more from some "friends" that had missed me.

Welcome to the forum head-spins!
Is your husband to be a baptized JW? I have a feeling that his congregation/elders might take a different view on his marrying outside the faith. They may look at it as he is reconciling his realtionship with you and your family-which is "Jehovah" would want. Although, I don't think they would go for him marrying you in a church setting, they probably would go for it if it was in a neutral place.
But, then again, it seems that there are some variances depending on the elders in each congregation, which is why I started my thread-just to see what others experinces had been compared with my own. I know of a man who was a JW who married a Baptist-he was not counseled, in fact they were very happy for him. But, in my case, I got announced as having disassociated myself.
I wish you well.

was I stupid or what?
by Ciara inyou know, something dawned on me a while back and as i'm reading all the posts tonight, i can't stop thinking about this.. all of you guys seem like you knew for quite a while before you left that the jw's were full of crap.
i had doubts and questions, but the reason that i left was that i just gave up.
i knew that i was never going to be able to live up to their expectations and i just got so depressed that i quit.

I pretty much "gave up" to pursue a life apart from them-but didn't feel like they were a cult/messed up until years later. Just figured they were the ones with the "truth" and I would be lost at Armageddon. So you are not alone.
