does anyone know if an assembly or convention, particulary ones held in stadiums, had to be cancelled because of bad weather?.

We had an entire two day circut assembly post-poned because of a snow storm. It was either 84 or 85 back when you got 2 two day assemblies a year and one 4 day DC / yr.
We never made up that assembly, they just moved some of the talks to the Sunday meeting schedule. I remember we had a couple of teens that were to be baptized that weekend. They were pissed because they had to wait longer. We had a 6 ft. drift right behind our car port and had to dig our car out. It was pretty bad.

when my grandmother died, she left a small amount of money to me which will pay off my school loans, and leave me with some left over for a downpayment.
Now is a great time to buy. The home I'm in, I bought in a gated community with all the ammeneties here in SW Florida. I paid less than $300K for this home. Two years ago, the previous owners paid almost $470K for it. I walked away with instant equity.
If you can get financed, it's the best time to buy. Just don't do like so many and over extend, leveraging everything to buy more than you really can afford. That, in part, has contributed to the collapse of the market. Many of the homes here that are in foreclosure are from investors and speculators who were way out of line. Just don't end up going to one of those crappy weekend seminars that tell you "how to become a millionaire in real estate". The only thing you take away from that is a lighter wallet.

After attending a Sunday meeting with my wife, I told her
"Honey, you know I love you more than anyrhing and that I'd do anything for you. But, my going to meetings just isn't going to work. I hear them start on about things I know to be wrong and I hear revised history and I get very angry. You detect than anger and it upsets you, and then you don't enjoy your time at the meeting. Why don't we just skip all that. If you want to attend, I'll never say a word about it and will support you however I can. But please don't ask me to go ever again. You know I really gave it a try, so let's just leave it at that. I'm sorry I can't do this thing for you."
She ended up being fine with this and knew I really had tried just going simply to be supportive to her. She's never asked again, ever.
I did go to a DC with her after that and I also traveled to the DC city a couple of times, but didn't attend.
i came in to the "loving" organization when they had the nasty cold food so i dont know how good the hot cooked food was.
my ex says it was pretty good, but should i have belived her?

I remember the hot food at the DC's. Speaking of the last 1978 International convention in St. Louis, I remember being a little kid and getting lost in that mob. I also remember helping in the food service with my dad. Hey, it beat going in service.
Our Circut Assemblies there, after they built the Assembly Hall, they had really good hot food. We had a kitchen dedicated to it. We also had a brother in our circuit who was a French pastry cheff. He would make the best stuff for a little pastry counter. One of his cinnamon butterflies with a cup of soft serve on it was fantastic.
After they cut out the food program, I guess I wasn't a very good dub because I always went out to lunch. The last assembly, my lunch was at Bennigan's Irish Pub where I had a really good Reuben sandwich on rye and at least 3 pints of Newcastle's brown ale. Made the afternoon session (cut short by mutual agreement with my wife) reasonably tolerable.

i truly doubt it and i'm sure it would insite much opposition and anger amongst the people of usa.
but because the government felt that such changes were necessary went ahead against what the people wanted, you just had to accept it.. there are many such changes taking place here.

I bet there was in the late 30's early 40's....but then, Hitler wasn't a "terrorist" in the strict sense of the word. He WAS the government. As has been mentioned, I know in the south, there are many memorials to the Southern millitary leadership even though they were at minimum insurrectionists, or even terrorists by some. That's why it's the victors that write the history books. Just as your Zondo is now lionized, it's only because his side came out on top. Look at Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest, founder of the KKK. He was on the losing side, and some still idolize him and his methods.

Well, I haven't had mine yet, but my dad is another story.
He's now 59. But a couple of years ago, he bought himself a Red convertible T-Bird and joined a gym. He took a position with his job about 2 hours away from where he and my mom live, so he got an apartment there and was only coming home every couple of weeks. Then, (this is really weird to me) he decided that since he's in Florida and is always in shorts and at the gym, he shaves all visible body hair. His legs arms and chest are all bare.
I asked mom why he couldn't have just bought a hot sports car and been done with it, but whatever. I really thought he and mom were going to permanently split when he was working in Tampa, but whatever he was looking for he must have at least partially found it. He's back with mom. He's still squirrelly, but he's settled down some.
I'll just get an expensive hobby when I reach that point.

Sounds like some wonderful moms out there. I had my Mom (and dad) come over to the house yesterday to swim in our pool. Afterwards, my wife and I had made a couple of white florentine lasagnas, so we had a wonderfull dinner and wine by the pool followed by a mango - key lime pie.
It was a wonderful afternoon. I love my mom. She's never shunned me, despite my fade and she knows she can count on me to be there for her wether her witless friends are or not...this in spite of my non-witness behavior, including taking some cigars over to smoke with my dad while she and my wife were at the hall the other night.

yes i have dozed off many times when i used to attend.
most of the time kept the shades on as we used to have outside assemblies.
the thing was not to slide off the chair, drop your head forward or snore.. i've seen some brothers/sister hitting a serious lean to the left or right as they slept and then they'd jerk awake, only to lean again.. some people had sneaky methods.
When I was little, my mom wasn't too hard on us about a bit of a nap. I'd always lean toward the armrest and end up with a handprint on my cheek and a cramp in my wrist.
When I got a little older (teen years) I "worked" as an attendant. My brother and I would save ourselves seats way up in the very top row where it was kind of dark and the A/C vents were nearby so it was cool. Our job as attendants, thanks to a bro we knew who was in charge, was early morning security, keeping all you naughty dubs not following jehoober's arrangement from coming in to the auditorium before the lights were on and saving blocks of seats. Of course, this meant we got to go in before the auditorium was open, the lights on, and save seats for all of our families. So, during the program, we had no real assignment. We could sit where we wanted and walk around with little signs saying "please return to your seats" and such. It was an easy way to walk around and scope out the girls.
As a dub kid, I guess you gotta know how to play the angles.

I think that at Guantanamo, there were legitimate terrorist prisoners. However, I also think that because of bounties offered and the like, there were many who were sent to Gitmo and held for years and treated to "enhanced interrogation" (i.e. tourture). I don't know about anyone else, but after 3 or 4 years and I'm released because they finally get it that I have no usefull intelligence for them, maybe I'd be a bit resentful and seek out those causing harm to those who'd harmed me.
I'm not condoning this guy's actions, but I gotta at least raise the possibility that this is blowback from our cavalier approach to "the war on terror."

and if you make more than $200k/yr, you are "rich", and defined as such you will get soaked; thus, you will have little incentive to keep earning what you do now,--the opportunity to make a nice profit will simply not be there....and all of us working stiffs fortunate enough to make over $50 k/ yr, you better hold on to your wallets as well... we are going to pay for the social security bailout.
