Will the JW.Org Site make a difference ?

it will obviously make a difference to how jw's obtain their literatrash, they will have to download and print it all themselves before long.. it will make a small difference to the dtod work, they will now refer even genuine questions and interest etc to the site, not taking the opportunity to "witness" on the initial call at all.

this has been happening already to a degree.. the difference i am mainly interested in is the capture of new suckers in to the borg.. we will be able to see when we get 2014's figures, sometime next year, what the rate of increase was over the last ten years.. phizzy the prophet predicts that the rate of increase over the next ten years will not be significantly up.

probably down, but certainly, i feel, not so different from the last ten.. should i be around in ten years to do so, i will wish to ask jw's:.

I cannot believe the 'statements' made from young people in regards to evolution vs creation:

“Imagine that someone told you that there was an explosion at a printing plant and that the ink spattered onto the walls and ceilings and formed an unabridged dictionary . Would you believe it? How much more unbelievable is it that everything in the orderly universe came about as a result of a random big bang?”

“Humans have qualities far beyond what is necessary for mere survival. In fact, we care for sick people and help those who are less fortunate. Why would we do that if evolution —with its ‘survival of the fittest’ motto —were true?”

“If you were walking through the forest and discovered a beautiful log cabin, would you think: ‘How fascinating! The trees must have fallen in just the right way to make this house.’ Of course not! It’s just not reasonable. So why should we believe that everything in the universe just happened to come about?”

Wow. just wow. I am not convinced in creation after reading JW.ORG. I am however, convinced that the 'Young people asked' for this article are idiots.

This is just embarrassing - you'd think they might have put in a little more effor when they are having such a huge marketing campaign around the website!

im really channeling my inner blondie with my observation and critiques of these new watchtower videos.

something about them really turns my stomach.

And this whole loving and blessed story is based on a Deuteronomy verse. Such love!

Isn't another Deuteronomy scripture the one where if a man rapes a virgin then the rapist has to pay the father some silver and marry her?

As well as if a woman is raped and doesn't scream, then she is guilty of fornication and should be put to death?

As well as the one about any man having his testicles removed must not enter the house of God? (Hope no Witnesses ever get Testicular cancer!)

As well as the one about any person who is born of a forbidden marriage, regardless of how many 'generations' away, not allowed to enter also.

Deuteronomy in my opinion contains some of the most discgusting passages in the bible. This is 'cherry picking' verses at his finest - or worst, depending on your point of view.

hey :).

for a while, i've sort of been wondering why i always check in with this board... i mean it's filled with great people of course - and is my only link to what's happening in the jw world, but i shouldn't care that much... i'm not a jw, neither is my husband - it's only his batshit crazy family who are and it shouldn't bother me that much.. however it does interfere with my life and when i'm around them, they do somehow manage to make me feel like crap.

i think it's all mad and they are most definitely stuck in a cult, however my husband - who grew up as a jw just sort of shrugs his shoulders and is a bit 'it is what it is' - it doesn't seem to offend him as much as it does me.... every time that i hear about a new change or scandal on here, i think 'surely this will be what wakes them up'!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and suggestions. I think 'sincere questioning' is a good idea and is something think about. My in-laws are pretty hard core and I believe that they will be in for life - and as much as i want to 'live and let live' I know that they would treact me a lot better if they werents JWs (or I was) - and I also believe that they would be happier overall if they weren't - there is just so much negativity, focus on anything bad happening in the world. - everything seems to be a sign that Armageddon is imminent - they close their eyes to anyone doing anything positive - unless the are a JW of course..

I guess that I probably just need to keep my mouth shut and not have anymore time with them than I absolutely have to. We don't have kids yet, but are planning to soon hopefully, so no doubt that will bring up a whole new range of issues!

Every time that I hear about a new change or scandal on here, I think 'surely this will be what wakes them up'! But nope, their faith only seems to get stronger.

Now I know better than to get involved in a conversation around doctrine - but I'd love to be able to talk to them a bit about the UN, Beth Sarim etc - basically the things that have been mentioned over and over again as things that helped to wake people up...

However - I am obviously scared to mention anything negative at all about the WT for they will just think that I am influenced by Satan and make life even more difficult for me.

Has anyone had any success in regards to getting hard core JW's to actually THINK... I know it's not that simple, or there would not be so many people on this board still 'in' going through the motions because they can't get family out - however if you have had any success, I'd love to hear about it!??

i'm mentally out of this cult now but still trapped because of family.

I agree snare, such articles trouble me also...

My in-laws know that the blood issue is a big one for me - after receiving 3rd degree burns as a young child, I would be dead without blood. That situation is still the same today - major trauma - need blood.

I have received a whole heap of articles from my in-laws on blood and how there are actually 'better' ways anyway - such as the 'Margo' case that I know that many people here are well aware of (JW Urban Legend). No doubt this article is the next one I will receive.

I'd like to check the stats and data around this article anwyay - the bit where people without blood recover faster and better for example... You can't really truly know this, unless you can have a parallel universe and have the same person in each one, giving blood to one and not to the other. It is not possible to know from data alone how serious the situation was of all there people to begin with... One would assume that there were more problems to begin with for the ones that received blood...

Live Forever on a Paradise Earth

Living for any amount of time, let alone for ever, with no one for company except a bunch of JW's is the complete opposite to 'paradise' in my opinion!!!

No amount of lion petting would be able to make up for living soley with witnesses.

Yoga

This is another ridiculous thing about the Witnesses! Yoga is first and foremost a SCIENCE - not a religion, although there are now various different branches of yog, with some taking more of a religious stance - but you don't have to go there... Yoga helps to create happiness and wellbeing by teaching those who practice how to control and still the mind, rather than the mind controlling you.

I am not really a spiritual person at all, but I love my yoga, it helps with chronic pain, helps me to be more calm and positive - and I always sleep SO well after doing yoga!!!

Just one more reason for me why I would never want to be a JW.

They take all the fun out of life itself - and then the reward for skipping the fun in life is eternity with a bunch of Witnesses - NO THANKS!!!!

What do you do when your job makes you wanna puke your face off?

i'm talking like makes you physically sick and emotionally frazzled just thinking about it.

i'm talking like you hate it to the point you'd rather go without than work at it just for the money.

you'd live on cheap korean packet noodles for the next year instead of exchanging your labor for this job's money.. well, this is how i feel about teaching and tutoring.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. 6 or so years ago, I would come home every day in tears, I just hated my job so much! I didn't think I had any choice though - we had a mortgage, and anyway - I didn't know what else I wanted to do, a physical disability prevents me from just going and getting a physical job like waitressing, but I felt like my sould was being sucked dry in the job I was in.

One day, I came home for lunch - in tears again, and my husband was home. He just said 'enough is enough' - we will figure it out, just quit - today! So I did, I gave notice - everyone thought I was insane because I didn't have another job to go to. For the next year or 2, we tightened our belts a bit, and I did work that I actually enjoyed - even though I wasn't making much money. I worked with a photographer, did some volunteer work at the local animal shelter and that sort of thing. I made just enough to pay the mortgage each month and it was honestly the best thing I could have done. After a year or so, I was in a much better position mentally and was then able to go and get myself another full time job.

It's the worst being in a job that you hate and I feel for you:(

What Is The World View Of America?

a lot of people felt that the usa's reputation was terrible, especially under president bush.

then obama became president and we heard how the rest of the world felt that finally they had a person that would respect them and their views and work with them!

the new president even ot a nobel peace prize because of the world's perception.. what's your view of america?

I recently visited America and found the people to be polite and mostly charming.

I do struggle to get my head around the argument against healthcare for all - I believe that healthcare should be a right, not a privlidge only for those who can afford it. Here is Oz we have the Medicare system - which isn't perfect, but pretty good in that every single person in the country, regardless of wealth, can access health care if they need to. I think this is a good thing, and can't get my head around the idea in America where so many believe that health care is in fact a privlidge, not a right. This makes me feel a bit sad.

The prescription drug situation in America is a bit scary to me - pharma companies being allowed to advertise prescription drugs I think is so wrong and is turning Doctor's simply into legal drug dealers. Also the price that American's have to pay for drugs when they do need them is scary also. I can't imagine needing a particular drug due to illness, but simply not being able to afford it, so therefore not being able to take it. :(

I think the people for the most part are great, very warm, open, friendly etc. However there is still a lot of ignorance there with many Americans not knowing anything outside of their country. This is more the fault of the governments (current and past) and systems in place than the individuals. My opinion only of course :)
