What are the worst pictures in My Book of Bible Stories?
by cedars ina few comments from muddy waters and mummatron on another thread peaked my curiosity and led me to revisit some of the illustrations in the my book of bible stories.
i don't appear to have my old copy from when i was a child (thankfully), so i checked out the images over on watchtower.org where the entire book can be read online.
the images below are taken from what is displayed on that website, although it wouldn't surprise me if there are equally awful images that haven't been used.. so which of the images below are the most grotesque and inappropriate for children?

The sky in the first picture of the OP. Is that suppose to depict the "water canopy"?

Thanks Azazel. No I don't have any family member in the religion thankfully. And yes I almost don't go to the meetings anymore. The funny thing is, I put off my baptism for other reasons. I wasn't really doubting the doctrines at all. I just felt there is no point in horrying for baptism. Turns out, that was the best decision I have ever made in the religion, because 'officially' I cannot be disfellowshipped

Hello people. I am a new poster here, although I have lurked for about 3 years now. So most people will not recognise me.
On this forum, I have heard stories of people who are shunned by members of their own families - mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and even their own children. Until now, I had never fully thought of the impact such shunning would have on a person. But today, it finally hit me, as I will explain.I had been a devout member of my church from childhood before I joined the witnesses (I'm yet to be baptised. NEVER gonna happen!). At the start of my involvement, my family members were furious, as would be expected. But over time, they finally cooled down and gradually accepted my new-found faith. Other than the occasional teasing, I have no problems whatsoever.
Long story short. I was talking to my brother today and he casually joked about me not celebrating christmas (they think I'm still a devout witness as we don't live together). So I thought: What if my family were witnesses and I had to leave for another religion? Then they would have shunned me. That would mean the loss of the people I love with all of my life! Being how close we are, I cannot comprehend a scenerio like that. I would kill myself, I'm sure.
Sadly, there are people here who are in this situation right how. I just want to say my heart breaks for you. I can barely imagine what you are going through. I wish you all the strength you need.

Who designed cancer?
by snare&racket inone thing i regret, is not listening to the questions in my head whilst a jw.
one i didn't ask until years after leaving was....who designed disease?
of course the first thing to realise is the complexity of disease, the histology, pathology and aetiology.

Vidqun, I think Time has already told us what we need to know. Some of us just aren't willing to accept the reality. 2000+ years of a not-yet-returned Jesus has proven almost conclusively that no one is "out there" coming to "save" us. We (Science) are all we've got.

S&R...
Vidqun, I respect your faith. But the problem is, god/God has promised a lot of oh so wonderful things, but so far he/she/it hasn't showed up to fulfil any of them. Meanwhile we suffer, grow old and die. So far, science has done more to improve our lives than dusty old books of fairy tales. What is he waiting for if I may ask? -

Free Will and Foreknowledge
by TheUbermensch inhi, i'm a new member that enjoys civil debate, so i thought i'd just throw a topic out there.. if we take the standard, contemporary judeo-christian god (all-knowing, all powerful, and perfectly good in every possible way) and attempt to incorporate free will, we end up with a contradiction.
an all knowing being knows everything that has occured, is occuring and will occur, if otherwise then we can not consider this being to know all.
if god knows all that will happen, then he knows our decisions, as well as the outcomes of those decisions.

NewChapter
We don't all work that way, of course. But the board was full of condemnation when so many people ignored that toddler in China after she'd been struck by a car. How inhumane. How could they? We watched them weave around her (not me personally, I couldn't watch it) and it disgusted us. Because they knew about it and had the power to help, but they didn't. They knew, they had the power to help and they didn't! It was unacceptable. But for some reason, when it comes to this god, it is not only acceptable, but wise.----and loving. Not only did he know, he knew ahead of time, which addresses the OP

I went from an unbaptised fanatic newbie (you know, the uber-self-righteous type) to a full-blown atheist all in just 3 years. Thanks in no small measure to Randy Watters, jwfacts, and this site.
I started reading freeminds when it was still a collection of articles about his bethel life (Bethel Chronicles, IIRC). I read I think every bit of that site. Then I also read Paul's (jwfacts) articles. Members of this board finished off the deprogramming and turned me into an atheist (Thanks Terry )
I only made an account about 2 weeks ago, and I have made just one post in response to Kool-aid guy (man? ). I hope to become a regular poster once I'm comfortable enough. I think you will find my "Third World" perspective useful -

Father Elders going mad !
by koolaid-man inthe stress on jehovah's witness elders raising their children in "the truth" is causing many to literally go mad.. keeping their children in " the spiritual ark" is becoming more and more difficult.. many elders are snapping under the pressure.. one of our guests on the six screens conference call told of her elder father ( who everyone at the kingdom hall thought was an angel) came home from the meeting and killed the family dog in the kitchen with his bookbag as the family looked on....... join us tonight oct. 22, 2011 at 7 pm edt.
.... our guest will be wendy lee tucker former jw whose father was an elder and terribly abused her physically and emotionally.. she received horrific beatings..... hit with a bat, punched at, receiving a broken nose and became a prisoner in her home.. wendy was looked in her room with the doors being nailed shut when the family went off to the kingdom hall.. a far cry fom being a "spiritual paradise".
it is easy to get on the call....no computer is necessary.... just dial 712-432-8710 and when asked for pin use 9925. our lines open at 6:30 pm edt.....so come on early and talk with all those who have been "touched by the tentacles of the watchtower".

Rick. You are not a honest hearted one. You appealed to lurkers so I created an account just to tell you this. The other posters are right. How I know?
I've been lurking here for over three years! I know everyone in this board so well. They are right. You're bad news to "honest-hearted" apostates.
Sorry for introducing myself in this way. I guess I've already made 1 enemy even before I began. Hope to introduce myself in another thread.
