I know it is too little too late, however if you get your appeal perhaps you could use the Joseph defense. Tell them you were only following Joseph's example in protecting your wife. When Joseph found out that Mary was pregnant he set about to divorce her quietly so as to avoid shaming her.
Good luck on the appeal. I am sure it happens but I have never heard of a decision to disfellowship being overturned. I know you hate to be wronged w/o a fight but this could be your chance to free yourself. -

Justice #20 - Getting Run Over
by Amazing injustice #20 getting run over.
jesus said, "woe unto you, scribes and pharisees, hypocrites!
for you tithe mint and anise and cummin, and have left undone the weightier matters of the law, justice, and mercy, and faith: but these you ought to have done, and not to have left the other undone.

YoYoMama,
I recently made the comment to a CO that when serving as an elder I always felt that if we were to make a mistake in judgement, it would be far better to err on the side of mercy. His response was that the elders are appointed by holy spirit, any decision they make is made only after a request for assistance by the holy spirit thus they make decisions with the confidence that the holy spirit has guided them and they are correct in their decision. Thus they do not err. It seems a bit like the two main rules for getting ahead at your job....
Rule #1: The boss is always right.
Rule #2: If the boss is wrong, refer to rule #1. -

My flood questions
by Moxy ini know these topics have been well-covered in many places.
this is just me wanting to compile a list of concise reasons why i am sure the wt interpretation of the deluge is untenable.
this is my first draft.

One other assertion about pre-flood times is that the climate was temperant earth wide. That is one explanation for animals found seemingly quick frozen in extreme northern areas. For instance a wooly mammoth found frozen and preserved in the tundra. My question would be that if the climate were such, why is the wooly mammoth wooly?

Do You Still Believe a God Cares for You?
by JosephAlward ini've been a part of this forum for about one month, and during that time i've been struck by the willingness of many so former jehovah witnesses either to ridicule the bible, or to stand by while it's being ridiculed.
so, i'm wondering how many of them while witnesses suffered through experiences so searing that they no longer believe in the god of the old testament.. who among you still believe that underneath the layers of contradictions, inconsistencies, and errors in the bible there may be found the words of a god who created the universe, and who also cares about you, personally?.

My daughters and I have tickets to the Dallas show in November. I think its neat that they span the generations. My daughters are 18 and 22 and I'm 50. There are others that do that as well, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen come to mind.

Does anyone get scared?
by aud8 indoes anyone who has left the organisation ever get scared at current world events and what they seem to be leading to?
more and more the governments are getting fed up with religion, there is now more than even a call "for" peace rather than "of" peace and security.
bin laden and his extremist religious views would give rise to the thought that governments will in the future be intent on eradicating religion altogether due to the trouble it causes.
-

I don't have much time to gather my thoughts here but it was mentioned that the governments are growing tired of religion. I am not really sure I am seeing that. IMO religion is not the culprit here. What we are seeing is the Bin Ladins of the world using religion as a tool to control and dominate. In other words they are more interested in power than in pleasing God.

How Do OLD AGE JWs Feel?
by ballistic ini just want to know if jws that have been in the "truth" all their lives, having given all for the "kingdom" die in peace or whether in the autumn and winters of their lives, they are stung by nagging intrusive thoughts... "i have given my whole life to this organisation and where is the new system?".
i ask because these people were taught they were in "the last days" when they grew up many decades or even a century ago.
how can someone go that long believeing it was going to be tommorrow?

My mother is 87 years old. She goes out in service two to three times a week. Never misses meetings unless she is simply too ill. She would never admit disappointment to me. She is a rock.
She recently confided in a close friend of hers that she no longer expected to live to see armageddon.
A person who has spent as many years and put up with as many hardships as she has is not going to give in to doubts at this point. She is confident of her reward and I will never press the issue with her.

hillary_step,
Interesting points you make about the culture class that exists between Islam and the West. An article in the Austin American-Statesman by staff writer Bill Bishop had this to say: "The terrorists attack wasn't so much an act of war against the United States as it was an assault on the modern world." He went on to say that as nations modernize and urbanize, their power base becomes centralized in political systems rather than religion and conflicts inevitably ignite. Quoting Ronald Inglehart, a University of Michigan political scientist, "economic failure and national humiliation" in the continuing conflict with Israel has fed the fundamentalist movement in the Muslim world.
It just seems to point out that it will be very difficult if not impossible for reason to prevail in these conflicts. I do not like the alternative, however there may be no choice.
